The Premier’s Centennial Arts Scholarship provides financial assistance to Saskatchewan undergraduate
students in their development as professional artists.
At least one scholarship will be provided to an applicant studying arts administration or cultural
leadership.
One or more of the scholarships may be funded through the 2005 Canada Games Building Dreams and
Champions Legacy Program: Saskatchewan Arts Bursaries. This Legacy is administered by the
Saskatchewan Arts Board and allows it to provide bursaries to Saskatchewan young people engaged in
the arts to further their career-oriented training and education, particularly in post-secondary institutions.
Maximum scholarship amounts are:
•
Full-time studies – $2,500
•
Part-time studies – $1,000
The demand for Premier’s Centennial Arts Scholarships generally exceeds available
resources. The Saskatchewan Arts Board may not be able to provide scholarships to all
recommended applicants or in the amounts requested.
Note: The Arts Board is required to issue T4A forms for taxation purposes to
individuals for amounts received over $500.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Eligibility
Who can apply?
Students who:
•
Are Canadian citizens or Permanent Resident of Canada
•
Are residents of Saskatchewan who have lived and pursued their creative work and
careers in the province for a minimum of one year prior to the date of making this
application
•
Have a permanent physical address in Saskatchewan
•
Live in Saskatchewan for at least six months in a year, and are:
─ Undergraduates training full or part-time for a career as a professional artist
in any arts discipline at an accredited post-secondary institution or in a
recognized arts training program
─ Undergraduate training in applied arts where it can be demonstrated that the
applicant is on the path to a career in the arts and where the work requires
collaboration with other creative artists (e.g., music production technology or
3D digital animation)
─ Undergraduate training in arts administration or cultural leadership programs
─ Training in certificate arts programs at recognized institutions (i.e., National
Theatre School or Royal Winnipeg Ballet)
─ Training in summer arts programs or other part-time arts programs at
recognized institutions (i.e., Royal Winnipeg Ballet).
Applicants who meet the criteria for Saskatchewan residency as described above may be
eligible to apply for Premier’s Centennial Arts Scholarships while they are temporarily absent
from the province for an arts education or artistic opportunity (e.g., artist in residence). The
absence must be for no more than two years and not be recurring. The applicant must
maintain their permanent physical address in Saskatchewan, must intend to return to the
province at the end of the term and cannot receive funding from the jurisdiction of their
temporary residence.
Proof of residency is not required as part of the application but must be available on request.
If requested, applicants must be able to provide three or more documents that verify
residency status. Documentation may include, but is not limited to a valid Saskatchewan
Health registration card, a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, evidence of income taxes
paid in the previous year as a Saskatchewan resident and/or other documentation that
verifies Saskatchewan residency. If sufficient documentation is not produced upon request,
the applicant is ineligible.
Who can’t apply?
•
Artists who have completed basic training in their discipline through formal or
informal studies or apprenticeships, and already have an art practice as an
emerging or established professional artist.
•
Applicants who have outstanding reports for any previous grant or scholarship
received from the Saskatchewan Arts Board.

What can’t be funded?

Studies in programs that are not undertaken at an accredited post-secondary institution
or in a recognized training program
•
Studies at the post graduate level or work on a master’s creative thesis or MFA
graduating exhibition or performance
•
Private lessons
•
Studies undertaken prior to the application deadline
•
Applications that do not include a sample of the applicant’s work
•
Applications delivered, postmarked or sent by courier after the application closing
date
•
Applications that are incomplete, illegible or unsigned
•
Applications submitted by e-mail or fax.
Note:
Applicants are to consider the Adjudication Criteria when developing the content
of their applications.

An panel of assessors comprised of artists and professional arts educators will assess
eligible applications through a competitive process based on the following:
Adjudication Criteria
For Artist Applicants:
1. Artistic merit (based on samples of work and letters of support)
2. Potential impact of the proposed training on the applicant’s career and
professional practice.
For Arts Administration and Cultural Leadership Applicants:
1. Potential impact of the proposed training on the applicant’s career and
professional practice
2. Merit of the proposed program in the areas of arts administration and leadership.
Reports
Scholarship recipients are required to submit a final report no later than 30 days after the
end of their term of study.
Recognition
of Funders
Scholarship recipients are required to acknowledge the Saskatchewan Arts Board’s
support wherever possible.
Confidentiality
of Information
The personal and confidential information that the applicant provides in the application is
collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of
Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection and
Electronic Documents Act. This information is required to process the application. The
applicant’s personal and confidential information will only be disclosed as necessary to
employees of the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the adjudicators. If awarded a
scholarship, the name of the recipient, their community and the amount of the
scholarship will be made known publicly. The Saskatchewan Arts Board will respond to
any inquiries regarding the privacy policies and procedures, including requests to access
the applicant’s personal information.

Letter of Acceptance
Enclose the letter of acceptance from the institution presenting the proposed program. (If the letter is not available

Letters of Support (minimum 1, maximum 3)
•
Eligible applications will be supported by Letters of Support. Individuals providing these must be qualified to
assess the artistic merit of your work and your commitment to a career in the arts. You should choose arts
instructors, mentors, or other professionals in the area in which you wish to study. To maintain confidentiality,
the individual completing the Letter of Support must send the form directly to the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
The Letter of Support form is included in this package (page 10) and is available on the Arts Board’s website
http://www.artsboard.sk.ca/grants.

Samples of Applicant’s Work

Applicants are required to submit a sample of their recent work.
o Dance and Theatre applicants: Performance sample (video segment – maximum 5 minutes). Theatre
applicants also include at least one monologue.
o Literary applicants: Writing sample – published or unpublished (maximum 10 pages).
o Media, Film, Video applicants: Video segment (maximum 5 minutes) and website URL (if available).
o Music applicants: Audio segment or audio/video segment (maximum 5 minutes).
o Visual applicants: Digital images (maximum 10) and/or video segment (maximum 5 minutes) and website
URL (if available).
o Multidisciplinary applicants: Refer to the support material requirements above.
•
Technical requirements:
o Audio – mp3, wav, wma
o Moving images – Avi, Mov, Mpg, mp4
o Still images – JPEG files in PC file format only, 72 dpi resolution, maximum file size: 1 MB

Print – 8½ x 11 paper, single sided, double spaced, page numbered, portrait format.
o
Material submitted in excess of the maximums indicated will not be forwarded to the jurors or considered during
the adjudication process. Applications and support material are scanned and provided to the jurors electronically.
If support material cannot be scanned, note the number of copies of an item that must be submitted with the
application.

RELEASE OF INFORMATION
A. The Saskatchewan Arts Board is frequently approached by members of the media or elected officials for contact
information on successful applicants. Please check beside the options below to authorize the release of this
information. If the options are not checked, your contact information will not be released.

o If this application is successful, a cheque for the approved scholarship amount will be released to the
recipient after a signed voucher is submitted to the Arts Board and no sooner than 30 days before the
beginning of the term of study.

If this application is successful, agree to:

Consult with the Saskatchewan Arts Board about any major changes to the program that become necessary
including modifications to program dates
o
Submit a final report to the Saskatchewan Arts Board that includes a report on how the scholarship funds
were spent no later than 30 days after the end of the term of study
o
Acknowledge the financial contribution of the Saskatchewan Arts Board whenever possible.

Authorize the Saskatchewan Arts Board to contact me at any time regarding any matter related to this application
and/or any conditions affiliated with funding received as a result of this application.
