The basic drafts are developed from your own measurements covering a wide range of pattern making techniques using the basic skirt, bodice, trousers and full dress drafts. Discussed are the various seams, hem finishes and zippers that complete the silhouette styles. COURSE OUTLINE: Lesson 1: a) Course intro b) Demonstration of taking correct body measurements and personal measurements for a skirt c) Draft basic straight skirt with Waistband c) Adapting silhouette styles (1/2 scale): A-line, tapered, flared, gored with godet option Lesson 2: a) (Continued) Adapting silhouette styles (1/2 scale): yoke with pleats, pegged with gathers b) Seam and hem finishes c) Cut out skirt pattern and construct using the lapped zipper Lesson 3: a) Personal upper torso measurements for bodice b) Draft basic bodice applying dart manipulation c) Darts (straight, French, contour) and necklines (round, V-neck, square, boat neck) Lesson 4: a) Complete bodice draft for bodice lining b) Cut out bodice pattern and construct using the invisible zipper Lesson 5: a) Personal sleeve measurements b) Draft sleeves: Long fitted, short with fullness gathered into a cuff, cap sleeves Lesson 6: a) Personal measurements for trousers b) Draft fitted trousers pattern with side pockets Lesson 7: a) Draft dress pattern: empire waist with spaghetti straps b) Draft bolero top/jacket with bias bell sleeves c) Cut and construct both the dress and bolero top/jacket Lesson 8: a) (Continued) Construct dress and bolero top/jacket b) Other finishes, hems and design details MATERIALS: Pencil and eraser, Coloured pencils, Notepad Straight ruler, Long ruler (60cm long), L-shaped ruler, French curve Drafting paper, Tracing wheel, Paper and fabric scissors, Straight pins, Scotch tape (sellotape) Bring own Sewing Machine
