STEWARDSHIP REPORT
May 3, 2015
Weekend offerings:
$7,141.00 Dear Parishioners,
I have done it again! I got involved in another
parish project. As God is my witness, I did not want
to do it, but ARS ladies are good at twisting arms.
Besides, once I took a closer look at McGrath hall
kitchen, I knew that a fresh coat of paint would not
suffice. So, I opened another pandora box and now
I understand the extend of damage and neglect.
The good news is that money can take care of all
issues that we are dealing with; bad news is that
the money is in your pocket. That is why, I am
turning to all school alumni and families that had
various functions in the hall over the years, please
show your appreciation, and help me to take care
of it. I am asking for a cash donation of $50 or
more. Those who are willing to chip in, please put
your donation in an envelope marked kitchen. All
these donations will be used to pay contractors for
their work and materials. Thank you in advance
for your consideration and generosity.
MOTHER’S DAY HISTORY
In 1872, Julia Ward Howe, author of the lyrics to the
“Battle Hymn of the Republic,” made an eloquent
appeal for an annual Mother's Day for Peace: “Arise,
all women who have hearts, and say firmly: Our
husbands shall not come to us reeking with carnage,
for caresses and applause. Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to
teach them of charity, mercy and patience.”
In Boston, the first Mother's Day observance saw
women gathered to mourn the war dead and devise
strategies for peace. This did not catch on, but 35
years later Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia asked her
church to hold a service honoring all mothers on the
anniversary of her mother’s death. Due to the power
of the Woman Suffragettes, male politicians espoused
this version of the day and enshrined a more traditional view of motherhood. President Wilson proclaimed
the second Sunday of May as Mother's Day. MAY DEVOTIONS
During the month of May we have special services
dedicated to honoring the Blessed Mother. They are
held each Friday, at 7:00 pm in SC. The next Marian
devotion is scheduled for May 15.
Please join us as we gather around the Mother of
Jesus in order to learn what it means to be genuine
disciples of her divine Son.
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
The floral arrangement in HA this weekend is in
memory of John and Helene Rein, donated by their
children. We appreciate their kindness.
MOTHER’S DAY REMEMBRANCE
I want to thank all those families who returned
Mother’s Day Remembrance envelopes. On behalf
of our community, I thank you for your donations,
which will benefit our parish. As a token of my appreciation, all Masses this weekend will be offered
for the living and deceased mothers recommended to
our prayerful intercession.
ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Next Thursday is a holy day of obligation in our diocese. For this reason, we will have two Masses: 8:00
am in SC, and 7:00 pm in HA. Please make every
effort to celebrate with us this mystery of our faith.
NEPAL EARTHQUAKE
All Catholics in the DOT are asked to pray for the
victims of the tragic earthquake in Nepal. The devastation there is almost incomprehensible to us.
Anyone able and willing to help is encouraged to
contribute directly online: www.crs.org or send contributions directly to: Catholic Relief Services, PO
