“Teacher to Teacher”
Approach
The BEST 4 ELLs Grant was funded in
May of 2012 to develop bilingual and
ESL teachers, particularly in the areas
of Science and Math instruction. The
summer academy is for in-service
teachers.
The academy’s approach for this
Bilingual teachers will receive training
on “transfer to English” and Guided
Reading this year.
They will
participate in sessions that include

opportunity to share effective instruction “teacher to teacher.”
There will
be no separate ESL sessions this year.
Some instruction will be delivered in
Spanish.

Summer Academy?
Designed to improve the process of transferring bilingual education students from
Spanish instruction to the English language instruction and to facilitate Reading in bilingual classrooms. Topics will
include

Languages
 Model for Transfer Instruction
 Sample curriculum and strategies

Dates: The Academy will be held at The
University of Texas of the Permian Basin
July 27-29, 2015

no charge for materials.
