Newsletter Prosper Issue Two, March 2015 Welcome to the March edition of the Prosper newsletter, designed to keep you updated with the progress of the Prosper project, preventing falls, UTI’s and Pressure Ulcers, with snippets of ideas, tips and links to support you and your home on your Prosper journey. Nutrition Hydration Week This month we are supporting Nutrition Hydration Week, 16th to 22nd March. Hydration can have a real impact on the well-being of your residents. It can assist in preventing or treating ailments such as pressure ulcers, UTI's, incontinence, dizziness and confusion leading to falls, low blood pressure and cognitive impairment. Many homes are using the week to launch PDSA cycles based on hydration and increasing fluid intake for residents. There are Mad Hatters tea parties, a multi-cultural food event, jelly making activities and even a ‘Come Dine With Me’ experience based on the TV programme, with residents from Glengariff Residential Home, Carnarvon Nursing Home and Corner House in Clacton dining at each other’s homes and rating the chef’s creations. The full list of activities being held by homes on the Prosper project can be found on the Nutrition and Hydration Week website under the events tab. Celebrate your Success! Keeping with the theme of hydration, this month’s success story comes from Scarletts Residential home in Colchester, with an 80% reduction in the number of pressure ulcers. Staff are busy raising awareness on the causes of Pressure Ulcers and finding new ways to increase fluid intake such as introducing Jelly rounds, much to the residents delight! There is even a Jelly Champion, carer Gina is responsible for making sure there is a constant supply of jelly on hand.
