CONFIRMATION: The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Monday, April 20, at
7 p.m. at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island. Candidates from the parishes of St. Barra, St.
Columba and St. Andrew's will be confirmed, − Camden Bonaparte, Ailig Gillis, Rochelle
MacDougall, Breagha MacLean, Lily MacLellan, Logan MacLellan, Dayna MacNeil, Mikayla
MacNeil, Riley MacNeil, Andy MacMullin and Hunter Shaw. We ask that you remember
these children in your prayers. Bishop Brian Dunn will be presiding. After the Confirmation
Service, a reception will be held at the Christmas Island Fire Hall. All parishioners are most
welcome to attend.
ST. MARY'S FIRST HOLY COMMUNION/RECONCILIATION: Registration for First
Holy Communion and Reconciliation at St. Mary's, Frenchvale, will take place after Mass next
weekend, April 25.
THE ANTIGONISH DIOCESAN COUNCIL of the Catholic's Women's League of Canada
are sponsoring the TV Mass from St. Basil's Church in Toronto on Wednesday, April 22. It
airs at 9 a.m. and is repeated at 1 p.m. the same day.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS: April 26 - Behind and before every
vocation to the priesthood or to the consecrated life there is always the strong and intense
prayer of someone: a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community ... This is
why Jesus said: ''Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest,'' that is, God the Father, ''to send our
laborers into his harvest'' (Mt. 9:38). Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only
through prayer can they persevere and bear fruit. I am pleased to stress this today, which is
World Day of Prayer of Vocations.'' Pope Francis. Sunday, April 26, is the world day of
prayer for vocations, particularly for priesthood and consecrated life.
DAY TRIP TO MONASTERY - Saturday, May 9, in honor of Our Lady of Grace - Bishop

DIOCESAN COMMITTEE FOR LATIN AMERICA: The Diocesan Committee for Latin
America is in need of a few new members. The Latin America Committee focuses its efforts in
Honduras, Central America to support the history of our Diocesan involvement in that country
through mission priests in the l950s and 1960s. The committee has established trusted contacts
and continues to look to the future in supporting these initiatives. We are hoping that new
members could come from outside the Sydney Deanery as all of our current members are from
that area and we would like to see more geographical representation. If you are interested

THE CLAN MACNEIL MEETING has been changed to April 26, at 2:30 p.m. at the
Christmas Island Fire Hall.
MEETING: Christmas Island Volunteer Fire Department will have its regular monthly
meeting on Tuesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.
SENIOR'S CAFE: The Christmas Island Volunteer Fire Department would like to invite all
seniors from Ironville to Little Narrows and all surrounding communities. We will be hosting
nine workshops that will be interesting and fun. We are inviting Seniors (50 and up) and youth
in our community to exchange information and learn from each other. Many of our guest
presenters will be covering topics which promote wellness and healthy aging by connecting
seniors to vital resources within the CBRM and the province. Tea and refreshments will be
served as well as weekly door prizes and giveaways. All Cafes start at 7 p.m. April 23 Donna MacDonald/Connecting Seniors with Technology and the Internet. Clean Nova Scotia
will be speaking about the Home warming Program and will assist qualified individuals with
making application for these programs. The workshops are free of charge.
FINAL SONGBIRD SERIES CONCERT: We are thrilled to announce that Ian Sherwood
will be our featured artist at the Little Narrows Community Centre on April 25 for our final
concert in the 2014/2015 series! Sherwood is an extremely talented and sought-after performer
and singer-songwriter who has toured extensively in Canada and beyond. Show starts at 7 p.m.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $15, children 14 and under $7. To purchase tickets,

SPRING YOGA CLASSES - BOISDALE FIRE HALL: Spring Yoga classes are held at
the Boisdale Fire Hall every Thursday at 7 p.m. Please bring a mat and blanket and wear

CANADA HEALTH DAY: Please join the Baddeck Hospital Auxiliary for Canada Health
Day on Friday, May 8, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tea
and luncheon, bake table and health checks (blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, etc.).
