MEMORANDUM To cc From Re Member Associations Boxing Australia Directors Boxing Australia Staff Kable Kelleway Chief Executive Officer Date 12 May 2015 SELECTION COMPETITIONS PROCESS & EVENT STRUCTURE Process Pursuant to the Nomination Criteria for the Australian Team to the 2016 Olympic Games (which is published on Boxing Australia’s website at Documents/Selection Policies), for a boxer to be considered for selection to the 2015 AIBA Oceania Championships he must win two events in a selection process involving: The 2015 Australian Championships, and a Second Selection Competition, and if required a Third Selection Competition, and if required a Fourth Selection Competition. Once the same boxer has won two of these competitions within a specific weight category, no further competition will be required and that boxer will be entered into the 2015 AIBA Oceania Championships for that weight category. Second Selection Competition Event Structure If there are three or five boxers within a weight category in the Second Selection Competition, the Australian Champion will automatically receive the bye. If the Australian Champion wins the Second Selection Competition then he will be entered into the 2015 AIBA Oceania Championships. If another boxer wins the event, then that weight category’s contestants will proceed to a Third Selection Competition. Third Selection Competition Event Structure No boxer will be provided with an automatic bye. All will enter the draw and if there are three or five boxers entered, the draw will randomly select the boxer to receive the bye. If the Australian Champion wins the final, or the winner of the Second Selection Competition wins the final then that boxer will be entered into the 2015 AIBA Oceania Championships. If another boxer wins the event, then for that weight category a Fourth Selection Competition will be held. The Australian Champion will receive the bye. The winner of the Fourth Selection Competition will be entered into the 2015 AIBA Oceania Championships Competition Selection Committee In accordance with the Nomination Criteria for the Australian Team to the 2016 Olympic Games the Competition Selection Committee has selected and invited boxers, in its absolute discretion, to participate in the Selection Competitions in addition to each weight category 2015 Australian Champion and Runner-Up. The Competition Selection Committee is composed of: The President of Boxing Australia, The National Head Coach, The Chairman of Boxing Australia’s Selectors Committee, The Chairman of Boxing Australia’s Referees and Judges Committee, and The Supervisor of the 2015 Australian Championships. Venues & Dates An Announcement will be made shortly regarding the venue and dates of the Second Selection Competition. END
