2015GrantGuidingPrinciples
TheBrownCountyCommunityFoundation(BCCF)hasthebestinterestsofthecommunityatheart.
Weareconcernedwithmanydifferentareasaffectingthewellbeingofthepeoplewholiveandwork
here.
Inpastyearswehavefundedgrantssupportingtheartsandhumanities,education,socialservices,
healthandtheenvironment.Wesupportcharitableorganizationsthatincludeabroadrangeof
communityneedsinordertohelpbuildastrongerandhealthierBrownCounty.In2015theBCCF
BoardofTrusteesidentifiedthreecommunityinitiativestowardwhichtheywillfocus
organizationalgrantingandwherewefeelwecanhavethemostimpact;childhoodeducation,
environmentandhealthandwellness.
1. Grantsshallbemadeforspecificrequeststhataddressbroadareasofinterest,suchas:
healthandhumanservices,education,artsandhumanities,environment,community
development.PreferencewillbegiventograntrequeststhatsupportBCCFBoardof
Trustees’identifiedcommunityinitiatives.
2. ThegrantsprogramshallfocusonthechangingneedsoftheBrownCountycommunity.
3. Ingrantmaking,priorityshallgenerallybegiventoprojects/programsthataddressesan
identifiedneedandaremeasureableratherthanongoingoperatingsupport.
4. Grantmakingshallfocusonprojects/programsthatprovidethegreatestbenefittoBrown
Countycitizensperdollargranted.
5. Grantmakingshallencourageprojectsorprogramsthataredevelopedincollaboration
withvariousorganizationsandgroups,reduceduplicationofservices,andmaximize
resources.
6. Thegrantmakingprocessshallrequiregrantrecipientstoachievespecifiedobjectivesas
delineatedintheirgrantsapplication..
7. BCCFencouragesgrantapplicantstoseeksupplementalsourcesoffunding(e.g.,
government,otherfoundationsandassociations)byusingmatching,challengeandother
granttechniques.
8. Requestsforamendmentstograntproposalswillbeconsideredasappropriatebythe
GrantsCommittee.

PoliciesforGrantsfromUnrestrictedandField‐of‐InterestFunds
1. GrantsshallbemadeonlyforcharitablepurposesthatbenefitresidentsofBrownCounty
toentitiesthat(a)holdnonprofitstatusfromtheInternalRevenueServiceor(b)are
endorsedbysuchIRS‐recognizednonprofitorganizations.
2. Grantsshallbemadeonlytoorganizationsthatutilizeadequateaccountingprocedures
andfollowandabidebyallFederalIRSrulesandregulations.
3. TheBCCFcannotlegallyawardgrantstoindividuals.
4. Organizationsmayreceiveonlyonegrantpercompetitivegrantcycleperprojectper
twelve‐monthperiodfromtheunrestrictedendowment.
5. EachgrantrecipientisaccountableforreportingtoBCCFtheresultsofthegrantas
specifiedinthegrantapplicationguidelines.
6. Grantsshallnotbemadeforthefollowing:
 Sectarianreligiouspurposes
 EndowmentsnotheldbyBCCF
 Directorgrass‐rootslobbying
 Ongoingoperatingexpensesofestablishedagencies/organizations
