Volunteers play a crucial role at the C.A.R.E. Clinic, and we are always in need of additional dental professionals to advance our mission. Just a few hours a month can ensure that our patients receive the best C.A.R.E. possible and lighten the load of our present volunteers. Do you have a colleague that is interested in volunteering? Please share my contact information. Whatever their passion, talent, or schedule, I have a volunteer opportunity for them. Mary Birmingham, Hygienist Volunteer Spotlight Say hello to Mary, a mother, a wife, and a volunteer at the C.A.R.E. Clinic. Why did you decided to become a hygienist? I received my degree in dental hygiene from Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN. Why do you volunteer at the C.A.R.E. Clinic? I volunteer at the C.A.R.E. If the C.A.R.E. Clinic wasn’t here what would you do? The following are their responses: “I would be making a lot of payments.” “I would keep searching for help.” “Go without, because I couldn’t afford it.” “Remain in pain.” Scheduling for Treatment When scheduling a patient for treatment please let Shelley know the following: The amount of time required for the procedure. If the procedure will require multi appointments. If the extraction is complex or easy. This information will help her match the patient treatment to the correct provider/ dental team. Friendly reminder, before we prescribe narcotics to our patients, we need to consult with Julie Malyon prior to writing the prescription. “Thank you for C.A.R.E. ing.” What do you do when not at work? I spend time with my husband Brad and our daughter, Catherine, who lives in the Twin Cities. She works at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.
