BRIGHAM AND WOMEN’S HOSPITAL HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL ___________________________________________________________________________________ Hematology Opportunity Type: Research Technician Location: Brigham and Women’s Hospital Harvard Medical School GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT: A Technical Research Assistant I position is available in the laboratory of Takahiro Maeda, MD, PhD, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School (http://maedalab.bwh.harvard.edu/). Our goal is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying normal and malignant hematopoiesis, while maintaining translational focus. We take biochemical and molecular biological approaches and employ genetically modified mouse models. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-‐motivated individuals who can interact well with others as part of a team. A great transition opportunity for a graduating undergraduate student interested in pursuing a graduate education. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Perform experiments, which may be moderate to complex with increasing independence. 2. Record data and analyze results using basic statistics. 3. Maintain and perform experiments with cells in tissue culture. 4. Pre-‐clinical rodent work (mouse handling and injections). 5. Help to prepare presentations and written articles for publication. 6. Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and maintain equipment. 7. Maintain supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures. 8. All other duties, as assigned. Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: B.A/B.S with significant biological/physical science coursework. Experience with techniques in molecular biology and cell biology is necessary. SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: • Sound analytical and organizational skills • Good oral and written communication skills • Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities • Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-‐shoot solutions WORKING CONDITIONS: Laboratory environment: occasionally works with toxic chemicals, biohazards, animals, and substances emitting unpleasant odors.
