In the 8 years that Christian Academy has hosted
the Harry Greschel Invitational, it has grown into
one of the most competitive meets in the
state. 1200 athletes representing 28 girls and 24
boys track & field teams,
competed in the 2015 edition of the meet named
after Kentucky Hall of
Fame coach Harry

In total 20 state leading marks were established in the meet, that drew top
team stretching from northern Kentucky to Daviess County. Two of
those state leading marks were produced by Christian Academy's own Lilli Popovich who threw 36' 11" to win the shot put and a National Elite performance throw of
125' 7" to win the discus. Lilli's throw was one of the seven National Elite marks set
at the meet. The senior's throws led the team to a strong 10th place finish in the team
standings. Others placing for the Lady Centurions were the 7th place 4x800 relay
team of Clara Lynch, Callie Donaldson, Morgan McIntire & Madalyn O'Dea and the 8th
place finishes by Maya Wright in the 100 and
Callie in the 3200.
8th grader Milton Wright showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with over the next 5
years by destroying his PR in the long jump, with a leap of 20' 7". This mark is less than 6"
off Caleb Love's (now competing for Lipscomb University) school record. Milton added 7th
place points in the high jump and was on the 8th place finishing 4x100 relay team, joined by
Cal Lewellyn, Tanner Reiser & Isaac Yoho.
KYtrackXC.com 5K Showdown
The Harry Greschel Invitational weekend is kicked off on Friday evening with a
slate of elite high school 5K races on the track. 70 of the best distance runners in
Kentucky and 1 elite runner from Indiana, gathered on a perfectly cool evening,
with inspirational music being played, to lay down some fast times. And fast
times were certainly run - 58 of the runners surpassed the National Elite standard,
including Christian Academy's own Clara Lynch, who placed 13th in the race in
19:29. Sacred Heart senior and IU commit Maggie Allen used a torrid finish to
run a meet record - her 17:35 time is the 2nd fastest in the country! In all 5 of the
top 10 girls times and 2 of the top 10 boys times in the country were recorded on
Christian Academy's track in this race. (more photos on next page)
The men's tennis team played a close match last week
against Manual. The matches were tight, however Manual prevailed 4-1. Jake McDonnell defeated Manual's
top singles player Spencer Strelsov. Other winners in
singles included: Casey Diamond, Connor Steinmetz
and Camden Sloss. Home matches this week will be on
Monday vs. Collegiate and Friday vs. Butler. Come out
and watch some great tennis!

Congratulations to senior, Juliann Parrish, who signed a
letter of intent to play volleyball at Kentucky Christian
University (KCU). Juliann also visited Union College, but ultimately landed on KCU.
“I felt like Kentucky Christian was where God was leading me. I
know he has a plan for me at KCU. I’m so excited!” said Parrish.
CAL head volleyball coach, Patty Ernst, was unable to attend
the signing ceremony but sent a statement that was read by CAL
Director of Athletics, Brad Morgan.
“Juliann has been a bright spot in my coaching here at CAL.
She always gives 100% to her team both on and off the court.
She leads by example in everything she does. She was a great
spiritual leader for our team and will be greatly missed,” said
Coach Ernst.
KCU head volleyball coach, Bruce Dixon, also spoke of Juliann’s leadership skills and work ethic.
“I look forward to working with Juliann
and to four years of excellence. She has
come from a school who as prepared her
spiritually, academically and athletically,”
said Coach Dixon.
Parrish was named to the All District
team her sophomore and senior year as
well as awarded the Centurion Award in
2013 & 2014. Juliann plans to double
major in Missions and Athletic Training
and looks forward to playing for the Lady
Knights next fall.

ENCOUNTER WITH OFFICER ENDS IN TEARS, SMILES AND VIRAL PHOTO
At the Rodes City Run, there are no losers; not even the person who finishes dead last. Asia Ford wears that badge with a smile as
long as the race itself.
The annual event is just one leg of her life's journey.
"It's been a struggle because nothing is easy in life," Ford said, "It's been a
lot of teary-eyed moments, but I know I want it for myself."
For years, Ford struggled with her weight. She said her heaviest weigh-in
was at 474 pounds. She knew something had to change. It finally did, when
her husband at the time, lost a limb as a result of diabetes. From that moment on, every time she went to the doctor, her children worried.
"That is when I woke up and I couldn't allow them to be on this earth without my help and the only way I would be able to help them is if I helped
myself first," she said.
Ford started working out, joined a boot camp with a group of supportive friends and before she knew it, she had lost 25 pounds.
She's been shedding weight ever since.
Saturday morning marked a moment to reach another goal: conquer the 10K Rodes City Run. She did well on the more than 6 mile
course, until she started to feel sick during the fourth mile. She noticed a stranger drive up.
"I'm not going to let her quit, so I got out and she immediately grabbed my hand," LMPD Lt. Aubrey Gregory said.
"He asked me if I wanted to stop and I was like, 'No,' we have two more miles to go," she recalled.
But Ford would not go it alone.
From behind, a stranger snapped a picture of the pair hand in hand inching toward the finish line. Along the way, Ford said Lt.
Gregory talked to her son and even shared the loss of his mother to diabetes. Before the two knew it, they had only a few steps to
go.
"Your heart starts to fill up, you get those goose bumps and tingles all over your body," Lt. Gregory said steadily, "When I
watched her approach and I started to hear people scream and I let her go right there before the end and to see her raise her hands,
there aren't words to express the way I felt seeing her be successful."
"It was really a special moment," Ford added.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer posted a pair of photos of the moment on his Facebook page showing the raw emotion of the moment Ford crossed that barrier.
The first image, posted on the WHAS11 Facebook page garnered more than 40,000 likes and was shared more than 6,000 times in
a matter of hours after the race.
Surely, no one saw that ending coming. What they did witness was a man who was more than his badge and gun.

CAL 11 – BREBEUF 10
The Girls lacrosse team opened up their season with a double-header of games at Hanover College on Saturday against Brebeuf Jesuit and Cathedral from Indianapolis.
The first game was against Brebeuf and it looked like it was going to be a long day as the Centurions fell behind 4-0 as
Brebeuf maintained ball control. Forced errors also contributed to a slow start, as the team couldn’t get anything going
until about 12 minutes into the game.
However, the Centurions finally started chipping away at the lead by getting a variety of scoring from multiple players
with some nice assist from Allison Edlin and Ashley Semak. The team closed the gap and found themselves only down
6-4 at halftime with Annie Becker and Sydney Jarm shoring up the defense with numerous caused-turnovers to keep
the game close.
In the second half, Brebeuf once again started out with a quick score but the Centurions followed up with the games
next 3 goals tying the game at 7 with goals by Nina Dobbs, Dana Joss, Allison Edlin, and Ashley Semak.
The Braves went ahead 9-7 as the pace of the game picked up with the clock beginning to wind down but the Centurions scored two quick goals with Caroline Anderson hitting the tying shot to notch the score at 9-9 with 1.43 left in the
game.
Brebeuf had an opportunity to take the lead with less than a minute but goalie Sarah Rhodes came up big with a huge
stop giving Cal one last chance to win the game. Consequently, they did not disappoint the fans who made the trip to
Hanover as Dana Joss hit the hit winning shot with 10 seconds to play in the game. It was a well-deserved team-effort
win to start the season.
Cathedral 19 - CAL 8
The Lady Laxers played their second game of the day against Indianapolis powerhouse Cathedral. The Irish wasted
little time getting on the board as their speed and fast-break transitions put them out in front with a 7-1 score early in
the half. The Centurions had several opportunities to make the game more competitive but simply couldn’t find the
back of the net against a senior-laden team.
The Irish continued to press the centurions with pressure defense making it difficult for the Centurions to mount any
type of threat. Scoring was led by Caroline Anderson and Maddie Reed, with Sloan Reding also getting her first goal
of the young season.

NEWS FROM THE UNDERGROUND
#ALLIN2015
I hope everyone enjoyed this past weekend and the beautiful sunny spring weather. Spring Sports are starting to get out on
the field and reap the reward of all their hard work in the off season. I was blessed this weekend to get out and see our baseball,
softball and track team.
As most of you know our program is always evolving. As we learn about new techniques and programs we absorb, modify and apply. One new change to our program is that we are starting to train sport specific. We would like to train one team (and
will do our best to do this) at a time but due to the size of our facilities we might have to combine two sports. If and when we train
two sports together we will try and match up sports that share the same mechanical functions. For example we will put sports that
use sticks and require training that focuses on their core and rotational strength together and sports that focus on jumping together.
This will allow us to write a better training program and bring the teams together in the off season. I have never seen a championship team that was not focused on a common goal and worked together to achieve that goal. Here is how our training schedule will
work for the Spring.
Mornings 6:30am Sessions. All Session in The Underground unless noted
Monday: Softball (on non-game days)
Tuesday: Boys Basketball
Wednesday: Softball
Thursday: Boys Basketball
Friday: Boys Basketball (In Gym)
Afternoon Sessions. All Sessions in The Underground unless noted
Monday: 3:30pm Girls Track Throwers and Girls Basketball
5:00pm Football
Tuesday: 3:30pm Football
3:30pm Boys Tennis (in gym or on court)
Wednesday: 3:30pm Baseball
Thursday 3:30pm Football
Friday: 3:30pm Girls Basketball (in gym)
3:30pm Football
If you do not see your team listed, give me a call and we can set up a time for them or get a time scheduled for your student athlete
to train with a similar sport if their team is not training together at this time.
Remember you can keep up with any schedule changes on our Twitter feed @cfoundry or on our Facebook page – Centurion Sports Performance.
If you have any questions or want to take a tour of our facility and our Sports Performance Program, please contact Coach
Lile at (502) 457-6805 or glile@caschools.us.

CAL JV Softball Starts the Season with a Win over
PRP
CAL JV Softball took the field against the PRP Panthers Tuesday
to open the 2015 season. Loren Simpson toed the rubber for the
Centurions. PRP came out swinging, scoring 2 in the 1st inning,
but the Centurions answered with 2 of their own on a walk for
Elizabeth Ashley and hits by Simpson and Sam Thompson. PRP
scored another run in the
2nd, and CAL responded
with 2 runs on hits by Catie
Kearfott and Simpson, and a triple by Hannah Howes. PRP went
scoreless in the 3rd, as did CAL despite Riley Sexton's single. The
Panthers scored 2 in the 4th, but CAL’s bats exploded for 6 runs on a
triple by Howes, a double by Kayla Chapman, and singles for Ashley,
Ashton Edwards, Sexton, and Ellie Harshfield. PRP scored 2 in the
5th but it was not enough. Final score was CAL 10 PRP 7.

The 2015 8th grade baseball team opened up their season
on Saturday against Farnsley. It was a true team effort that
pulled out a 6-5 win. The starting lineup for the opening
game was Joel Jessie on the mound and Casey Brown behind the plate. The infield consisted of Jacob Dupps, Zach
Reese, Austin Richardson and Robert Lehmann. The outfield was played by Jansen Robey, Matt Derridinger and
Jackson Craggs. The opening day lineup was completed
by the Designated Hitter Greg Lile. Coach Wright said
everyone would play a key role in the game and off the
bench,
Jessie
was relieved by Todd Crenshaw and Charles Cook. Justin
Howes provided speed on the bases by being our courtesy
runner for our catcher and had the final out of the game in
left field that sealed the win. Matt Derridinger and Austin
Richardson had some nice hits but it was the hot bat of Jansen Robey
The CAL 5/6 Lacrosse team played two tough games on Saturday. CAL RED
played the St. Michael Saints. CAL RED had goals by Brandt Babin, Brock
Ruckriegel, Cash Porter, Seth Palin, and Josh Spainhour. CAL BLUE played
the St. Bernard Wildcats. CAL BLUE had goals by Blake McConahy, Wyatt
Hoetker, Dylan Schwartz, and Christian Walker. Both teams fell short but
played hard and represented CAL in spirit and teamwork.

The CAL 7th and 8th grade lacrosse team has finally begun season play after several cancelled games due to weather. Our Red team lost in a season opener 11- 3
to a talented Holy Trinity squad. Charlie Higgason had 9 goalie saves and several
nice clears. Good defensive pressure was applied by D-poles Luke Purvis, Barret Gray, Luke
Sunderland, David McKinley and Cameron Taylor. On the offensive end of the field, Jacob
Rayome and Kaden Weiter were responsible for CAL’s 3 goals with good ball movement by
our attacks and middies.
The Blue team won 6 – 5 on a last second shot by
Harrison Zimmerer with the assist going to Noah
Sutherland. Newcomers Marcos Welch, Justin
Del Bosco, Cameron Miles and Daniel Smith did
an excellent job in their lacrosse debut. Keep up
the good work! Carter Adams was unstoppable at goalie with 8 saves while on the offensive end of the field scoring
was spread out nicely among our middies and attacks. Excellent hustle by
Kyle Nutgrass, Landon Snyder and Charlie Tran.
In their second game of the season this past Saturday CAL faced the Crosby Cougars. In the Red game, Jacob Rayome was a powerhouse scoring
six goals in an impressive 12 – 2 win over the Cougars. Kaden Weiter, Braden Haffling, Jacob Sutherland and Noah
Sutherland teamed up for the other six goals along with assists from attackman Peyton ‘P-Dub’ Wheeler. Luke Paulson dominated with 8 ground balls (GB’s) along with several GB’s credited to Cade Christensen. Excellent defense by
Barret Gray, Evan Burns, Luke Sunderland and Carter Adams along with another strong performance by Higgason in
the cage.
The Blue team played immediately afterwards with a back and
forth scoring rally ending in an 8 – 8 tie. Carson Moylan, Parker
Clements and Harrison Zimmerer took charge of the GB’s with
great defensive work by Cameron Taylor, Matt Durenberger and
Paul Baker. It was a team effort by all!
Coach Sutherland, Wheeler, Moylan, Durenberger and Paulson
are excited about the season and the effort of the players working as a team.

GOOD-BYE WINTER…HELLO SOFTBALL!
The following girls make up the 2015 Middle
School Centurion Softball team: Hailey Baumann(3), Mia
Beam (22), Rachel Burrows (27), Madalyn Del Bosco (36),
Ellie Determann (5), Karly Fetter (11), Addison Franz (2),
Macie Howes (44), Haley King (17), Nicole Marker (4), Samantha Marshall (19), Darby Mehaffey (1), Lily Palmer (00),
Dana Quiroga (24), Trinity Ramey (7), Isabelle Rubsch (14),
Peri Tapp (8), Ella Teeley (10), Alexandra Terakawa (9), and
Gracie Watkins (6).
As you may recognize, not all of these girls are middle school students. That is because 13 of these girls are 5th graders playing on the middle
school team. As a parent of one of these fifth graders, I must
say I had my doubts about our team being able to compete
against the other teams in the league. Then on Monday,
March 16th, 2015, I attended the first game of the season, CAL
Centurions were matched against Ramsey. The Centurions
were down 3 to 6 heading into the last inning, then the CAL
girls got 2 runs and put all the spectators on the edge of their
bleachers. Although, the final score was CAL 5 - Ramsey 6, I must say, it was the
most exciting softball game that I had ever watched and my skepticism was replaced
with conviction that the CAL Centurion girls softball team has what it takes to be competitive.
The second game of the season was played on Thursday,
March 19, 2015. It lasted just one inning before the umpire called the game due to bad weather. But what an
inning!… CAL Centurion girls were victorious over
Moore 16-0.
