Let our professional staff help your 3-6 year old develop a positive and safe ability to skateboard in the
future. Our staff is eager to work with your younger
skater to teach proper pushing, standing, stopping,
turning and, in some cases, going down small ramps.
Plenty of handholding and a ratio of 4 shredders to 1
staff member will provide opportunities for lifelong
learning and a strong early development of skateboarding skills. Little Shredders must bring their own
skateboards in working order (penny skateboards
are not necessarily the best, it’s better to have a full
skateboard deck with double ended tails and grip
tape on it). Please bring a snack and water for
breaks and wear sunblock. Mandatory for all shredders to have proper fitting skateboard helmet, elbow pads, kneepads, and wrist guards to be worn at
all times. The Santa Cruz Board Room located on
41st Ave. in Santa Cruz is offering a 20% discount
when you mention you have a little shredder registered in the Little Shredder Academy of Scotts Valley.

skateboarding or what kind of skateboarding they
are into. Grouped together by skill level, skaters
will learn proper techniques, new tricks (street or

program and the challenges of the Scotts Valley
Skate Park. We incorporate lifelong practices of yoga, safety and positivity by making sure we stretch
before we skate, that we have all of our proper
safety gear on and keeping a positive attitude towards learning. At the end of every day we have
free skate for an hour so your skater can skate the
park with one of our pro skater staff and ask as
many questions as they want! All proper skate
equipment must be brought to camp which includes the following: a working skateboard, skateboarding shoes, skate helmet, elbow pads, knee

Tai Chi for Energy
6 weeks
Eric Deffenbaugh
18 & up
Tai Chi to improve health has been practiced for
centuries and validated by modern scientific studies.
Tai Chi strengthens and mobilizes joints and muscles, improving physical fitness and mental relaxation. It is especially suitable as a therapy for chronic
conditions because its movements are slow and gentle and the level of exertion can be adjusted to suit
each person’s physical condition. The Tai Chi for Energy form is safe and easy to learn. It blends two traditional Tai Chi styles. Chen style is vigorous, utilizing
spiral movement or “silk reeling”. Sun style includes
unique qigong movements and breathing with agile
stepping patterns. These two seemingly contrasting
styles of tai chi have complementary internal energy. The result is a gentle, relaxing, and invigorating
exercise. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.

Plant, Harvest & Cook!
5 weeks
Cindy Lepore Hart
18 & up
Why does food taste so much better when you
grow your own? Want to start a vegetable garden,
or use locally grown produce from local farms and
farmer's markets to create delicious seasonal
foods? Then this is the class for you! You will learn
how to start or maintain an organic vegetable garden or shop for locally grown foods. Learn gardening basics of preparing the soil, planting, dripsystem watering, and pest control. We will also talk
about gardening in planters, community gardens,
or for those with limited outdoor space. Then we
will cook and create garden to table cuisine using
the freshest in season produce. We will visit the
organic garden at the Community Garden and then
step inside the Senior Center kitchen for garden-totable cooking demonstrations. In each class you
will sample foods prepared from vegetables grown
in the garden. Learn through visual demonstrations
how to create all the foods you sample and find in
the cookbook. Sample and learn to make pastas,
salads, curries, and more using produce from the
garden: basil and herbs, green beans, cucumbers,
tomatoes, summer squashes, corn, eggplant, carrots and even heirloom dried beans. At the end of
the course, you will take home a small cookbook
with the recipes. $40 material fee due to instructor
at the first class meeting.
