The project, which kicked off on Oct 7, 2014 in FCT Abuja already has 400 participants in its fold. So far, the average age of the team is 16 years old, highlighting the emphasis of the CCSF on developmental projects. The team will be officially unveiled in Aug 2015. It can be recalled that the 2014 edition of the popular entertaining showtournament was postponed due to the Ebola epidemic in the West Africa region. the tournament held in the first quarter of 2015; a second camp wanted the tournament shifted to its traditional month of October 2015; and the last camp argued for two According to insiders, there editions to be held in 2015 was a raging debate a 3rd edition in the first amongst stakeholders as to the best date to host the next edition, to assuage the disappointment of eager fans. Eventually, the twin issues of Nigeria’s Elections coming up in February 2015 and the effects of Ebola still being felt in some West African countries ensured the October lobbyists won the day. Sources that have seen the master plan for the tournament say that participants are in for yet another pleasant rollercoasting surprise at the 3rd edition of the CCSF Opens, which will attract top competitors from all over the region. CCSF INTRODUCES TAEKWONDO TO G.S.S SCHOOLS IN FCT ABUJA C CSF has raised the stakes on its promise to inspire and empower young Nigerians by introducing Taekwondo to Government Secondary Schools FREE OF CHARGE. The project, which took off 7th October 2014, is being done in partnership with the Secondary Education Board. …. Not only do they get to break the monotony of the long classroom routine, they also get to personally interact with Africa’s three-time Taekwondo Olympian, Chika Chukwumerije without any restrictions. Husseini) competed (as part of the National Taekwondo Team) at the T O U R N A M E HUSSEINI N T 2014 Commonwealth the 1987 All Africa Games. YAGA Chukwumerije won a Silver and coached 17 year old CCSF athlete, Adamu popularly known as Husseini to a Gold medal, Adamu’s very first International medal. This was the first time Nigeria was participating in the event, and Nigeria came away with their best ever international performance with a total of 10 medals [4 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze] from 15 athletes. The best record prior to this event was 3 Gold medals won at President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Vice -President of Commonwealth Taekwondo Union, and a Trustee of CCSF, Grandmaster George H. C CSF took a historic step in the last quarter of 2014 when its team tagged “TEAM CCSF” debuted at the Lagos Opens, a National Tournament that held from 14—17 December 2014, at Rowe Park, Lagos. I feel my improvement every single day” For Captain, Oluwaseun Scott-Emuakpor, it was even more important for CCSF to get more support so many more young people can be aided. Commonwealth Gold Medallist, Husseini, was grateful for another wellrounded performance, “I am happy that my performances are improving every year. I hope to do even better as time goes on” the 17 year old enthused. Commonwealth Gold Medallist, Husseini, echoed this sentiment, “CCSF is not just about winning medals. It is about developing our character and empowering us with the tools to be successful in life” “For TEAM CCSF students, classes are free, and the students love the wide range of programs being done, but it is sad to often see my team mates with no running shoes or proper sports clothes and all. DIARY OF A NEWBIE - Dickson Adoga [Vice-Captain, TEAM CCSF] U p until this year, I did not realize how powerful a tool Sports was in changing one’s perception about life, but my contact with CCSF has really redefined the way I look at sports. Sports is such a wonderful way to unite young people and help give direction at a time when one is uncertain. The best thing that happened to me in 2014 was getting to know about CCSF and getting a slot on the TEAM. Since I began taking part in CCSF activities, I have made a lot more friends, gotten fitter, gained so much knowledge and I feel really confident now about being able to take on whatever challenges the future has in store for me. basketball to volleyball to table tennis to computer lessons to picnics to video game competitions—the list of activities done to engage young people is endless. What makes it even more amazing is it is all free. I have way of making us believe we are the best, and gives a lot of emphasis to helping us develop soft skills and every area of our lives.
