Not a bad idea let us Northern Lakes v Wyong Erina Oval formed by the home captain and the referee know what you think. We will investigate as Gumbuyah Oval to whether it is going to introduced across all CRL competitions and keep you posted. Last week saw some very interesting re- sults, perhaps some of the pundits preconceived predictions might not be as close to the mark as they first thought. But it is only early days and with another exciting round of TOOHEYS rugby league today the interest can only become more intense. Also if clubs wish to play Saturday fixtures they need to make applications on the appropriate form and get them into the office as a matter of urgency. In other words get in quick or miss out. Good luck to all clubs in today’s fixtures. One minute silence was taken prior to all games and the most fitting farewell before the first grade fixture with players, supporters and committees from both clubs clapping farewell for one minute. Rest in Peace Gibbo. First of all I would like to congratulate the CRL and CCDRL for their initiation in having opposing teams along with referees shake hands prior to the game and show the true sportsmanship in which our great game is all about. Today saw the new look Umina bunnies take the field with a mixture of our local juniors along with the new buys to the club. First grade coach Flynn Donnelly along with reserve grade coach Jim Fawcett, have done a great job during pre- season training blending the players together and along with our girls touch team which is mentored by Shannon Sharpe the club harmony at present is at its best. First to kick off our ladies league tag side with lots of nerves for their first game. In a game where each player played incredibly well , along with outstanding defence. The girls did not disappoint, finishing at the final bell victorious over the warriors 86-0. Congratulations to the warriors as they never gave up. Best on the day for the Bunnies Bree Singman 3, Katie Ritcher 2 and Stacey Markham 1 and our stand-in goal kicker Maddison Randall booting 11 goals. Not so fortunate in reserve grade going down by 32 to 4 but not through lack of commitment. In what was a tough and physical game the boys being a blend of old and new players they will only improve under the guidance of their coach. First grade turned out to be a war of attrition for both sides with plenty of walking wounded at the completion. The bunnies led for most of the match only to come away with a 20 all draw, a penalty in front of the posts in the dying stages cost the bunnies a win, coach Donnelly was disappointed but thought the team would improve on today’s game, best for the bunnies were Tom Reid, Corey Fleming and Josh Foley. The bunnies family wish Ryan McGrath and speedy recovery from a neck injury and Sam Keenan after breaking his Fibula . The first half, a 95% completion rate and nearly every option taken the right one, the second half on the other hand was the total opposite. The important lesson we can take out of this game is that a game is not over until the final whistle blows. This game (our first for the season) has given all the coaching staff the opportunity to see the guys in action for the first time and see what they are capable of doing. There is plenty of talent to work with and we’re looking forward to a great season. Rd 2 Ladies League Tag: The girls started the season with an 18-0 win over a strong Wyong team. After the trial cancellation and a washout round, the girls where keen to take the field for their first game. Thanks to the 19s for an opposing session on the Thursday before which helped us to get a feel for the game and realise how fast it may be. A try to Rachel Curnow and conversion by Sian George saw us go into half time with a 6-0 lead. Second half Tara Angell took a ball on the full from the second half kickoff slicing through the defense and scoring her 1st try of the season. The girls really started to gel in the second half with 2 more tries being scored by Bec Tattoli and Rachel Curnow. The defense by Wyong stayed strong and our defense was great too. And both teams will improve a lot as the season progresses. The whole team had outstanding personal games. But 3 points and players player went to Rachel Curnow. The girls are very committed and competitive which is excellent. Thanks to Beau Woodley (Assistant Coach) for helping prepare the girls for the season. Big thanks to The Team Charmaine Ceeney and Annette Woodley for Managing the team. Great job Nerida Powell for organising the Team. Thanks to Andrew at the Empire Bay Tavern and Kevin Muller at Express Lube. Also thanks to the Kincumber Club/Players and Supporters for welcoming us into the Fold it is greatly appreciated. The Sharks crossed for eight tries, with fullback John Symington and backrower Alex Pohla both crossing for doubles. and Michael Jones converting six of them. Jed Ambrose received the club three points and Players Player award with a fine attacking display and leading the side around the paddock, the two points went Matt Langhein who made plenty of metres while the one point went to John Symington who played a great attacking role at the back. The Coaches award went to Alex Pohla who was a handful for the opposition in attack and defence. A good defensive effort from the Sharks to run out winners 38 - 6 after leading 22 - 6 at the break. The Sharks held Central to the lone try, which came in the first two minutes of the match but a poor completion rate stopped the Sharks from gaining any momentum with too many errors. A big thanks to the Under Nineteens and Open age players who helped on the day. The Sharks best and Players Player was Dillon Selby who dominated around the rucks and crossed for three tries, the two points and Coaches award went to Alex Pohla who also crossed for a hatrick and made plenty of metres when in possession while the one point went to Luke Houghton who was a tower of strength in the middle of the park. The Sharks first grade side did it tough in the first half against the Razorbacks, after shooting out to a 12 - 0 lead after twelve minutes, Central fought back late and the halftime score was 18 - 12 to the Sharks. The Sharks dominated possession in the second half and scored a further seven tries to run out winners 60 - 20. Coach Goddard was disappointed about the defensive effort but happy to walk away with the two points. Special mention to Josh Harman who kicked 10 conversions from 10 attempts. Best for the Sharks and Players Player was Justin Sopp who ran strongly and dominated the Razorbacks in defence, the two points went to Bladen Baird who crossed for a double and had a great all round game, while the two points went to Blake Inwood who also crossed for a double and made plenty of metres in possession. In a classic case of a match played in 2 halves, we entered the fray in the second half revitalized and after a searching passage of play, the ever elusive Alex Moore scored after a sublime pass from Matt Nelson which was duly converted by the aforementioned Matt Nelson and the Panthers comeback was well under way. An incisive Nathan Stevens provided further inspiration with a try, 18 – 16 and the roll was on. Alex Moore then added to his tally with a try after continual pressure from the Panthers. Matt Nelson converted for a 22 – 18 lead. A penalty to Matt Nelson increased the lead to 24 – 18 and we were breathing a little easier, but Woy Woy mounted numerous raids on the Panthers line only to be thwarted by desperate defence. Full time found us running out winners 24 – 18. Best players were the enigmatic Alex Moore, super sub Otene Tutaki and the skilful Matt Nelson. TOUKLEY RLFC Special thanks to Under 19s players who back up and play two games each week. It was hard to pick the points as everyone played well, however it was impossible to go past Sarah Dimech who got the 3 points and players player. The 2 points went to Sarah Dodds who showed some great pace in scoring some long range tries. The 1 point was shared between Charmayne Nathan and Jade Harkins. UMINA BEACH The exciting thing about this team is that we haven’t yet trained as a team or come close to playing to R.L.F.C. our potential. Opens This week we took on St Eddies who played under the Woy Woy banner, Although we did not come away with the points, our second half was much better than the first with us dominating the points and not giving away AS many penalties as our first half effort there is a lot we are going to work on at training as I know the boys were pretty disappointed with result. 3. points went to A new comer in Dean Rawson who is on the way to making the front row his own. 2. points and players player went to a bloke who had his first game back and will be an asset to our side Mitchell Evrard. 1. went to Wade Chant who has played full game in a physical position for two weeks in a row Under 19’s Disappointing loss to Woy Woy 34 – 20 last week. Need to work at fixing our errors. 20 OURIMBAH WYOMING Magpies NEWS Metaland 1st Grade Report The new look Metaland 1st Grade took on The Entrance on Sunday looking to get our season off to a good start. For the first 40 minutes we were able to achieve this. We scored the first try through Marco Tetevano off a set play - we were off and racing. We went set for set with them and were competing really well with one of the heavy weights of the Competition. The Entrance were able to get their fair share of the footy and scored a couple of tries late in the half to take us to the break 12-6. We spoke at half time about staying in the grind with them and continue to play the way we were as we were pushing them all the way. Unfortunately, with our lack of match fitness due to having just one trial and having Round 1 a washout, we came out a little underdone and fatigue and mistakes started to slowly creep into our game. In the end we gave them way too much ball and paid the price dearly. Being our first hitout as a side I thought their were plenty of positives to come out if it. We now know where we are at as a side and we will continue to work hard at training and bounce back as quickly as possible making our supporters and sponsors proud. Welcome to all the new & familiar players, coaching staff and also to the Ladies League Tag Team. Welcome aboard and all the best for the year. Players’ Player and 2 points: Taylor Mildren - who put in a no stop performance and played himself to a stand still. 3 points: Chris Trembath – our new Captain who led the way all day with some good charges upfield and great defence. 1 point: Channarath Ly (Little Chan) – who was solid at fullback, great talk from the back and field position to retrieve the ball, chimming into the backline to put his outside men into space was great. His experience will be invaluable as the year unfolds. Coach’s Award: Sam Stewart – who played on an edge for us and tried hard with hitups and defending many attacking raid from the opposition. We look forward to this Sunday our 1st home game against Umina and to return to the winner’s list in all Grades. Good luck to our sides. Thanks also to our new and hardworking Committee who have had their challenges thus far but have handled them very professionally – well done to all! Up the Mighty Maggies! Cheers, Marto Duncan Excavation 2nd Grade Report Duncan Excavation 2nd Grade travelled East to meet up with a well-drilled The Entrance team. Behind 10-6 at half time, lack of trials and match fitness took its toll whereas The Entrance ran away 50-10. George Fuka took the 3 points with a strong debut for the Club. Next best was Blake Cooper and Cameron Clarke with Tyrone Johnson taking out the Coach’s Award. Thanks to all supporters and sponsors for their support. Cheers. After a good win the week before the boys were feeling confident, then kickoff time and Toukley’s big forward pack just kept hammering at us. The boys put up a gutsy effort, sometimes there is more than just the opposing team to contend with on the field. Not our day, not a bad loss, good signs for improvement. Need to keep tight and disciplined. We are better than what we showed that day. Firstly we would like to thank everyone that turned out to ensure a fitting tribute to Gibbo. Also thanks to the Umina club for their assistance and compassion on this difficult day. Open age - a great team effort to get the win in our first game for the season. It was a very nervous group of girls who took the field for their 1st game. We came up against some very classy opposition who proved too strong for us on the day. The girls never stopped trying with the highlight being a length of the field chase by Makenzie to round up a runaway Bunny. The girls all enjoyed themselves and with the experience gained, a influx of new players and the wise words of the Coach we are all sure the only way is up. Thanks – The Informed Lady on the Hill Welcome everyone to Erina Oval. Everyone is invited back to Erina Leagues Club for the after match presentation today and this is compulsory for all players and staff. First grade - looking to improve on last week’s game, the Eagles started well. Going to the break trailing 10-12 and matching it with a well determined, at home Toukley side. Come the second half, both sides were guilty of poor discipline with plenty of penalties going both ways. However we lacked cohesion and the drive to finish off the good work from the first half. The final result a frustrating and disappointing 16-24 loss. “You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the further you get.” It was a tough and uncompromising start to the season for the 2 teams. There was plenty of willing defence and both teams showed plenty of grit and determination for the full 80 minutes. Umina held the upper hand for the majority of the match, but the Warriors refused to give in and snatched a draw with a late penalty goal. All the new guys made strong contributions with Tye and Barts strong up front whilst the Narrabri connection showed they will be a valuable asset to the club this year. TOUKLEY RLFC CENTRAL COAST 4 X 4 WRECKERS FIRST GRADE: The boys showed that all the preseason hype is justified with a solid 24-16 win over Erina, in front of a large crowd at Darren Kennedy Oval on Sunday. The Hawks opened the scoring early with a try Ryan Heath and never surrendered their lead. Erina hit back, before captain-coach Grant Wooden scored a try against his former club to put us in front 12-4 shortly before half time. However some ill discipline on our behalf gave Erina another chance and they reduced the deficit to two points at the break. Erina had more chances early in the second half but our defence held strong before debutant Mitch Riley scored a fantastic try to extend our lead. Halfback Jake Fitzpatrick put a crossfield kick in which was deflected by Erina, before UMINA BEACH Andy Callow regathered and kept it alive, feeding Riley a pass. Cracker still had plenty of work to do but managed to R.L.F.C. ground the ball inches from the sideline. A penalty conversion put us back in front by 8, before Jye Newton capped a strong performance in his first game for the club since 2011, with a well deserved try from dummy half. Erina scored a consolation try with five minutes remaining but our composure shone through. Best for the Hawks were Newton, Sam Cogger, Trent Walker and Dylan Thorne, who was singled out by Wooden as a standout in his top grade debut.
