Parents are required to attend the general and schedule session (anticipated time 1 hour). Parents and students must
attend the general session prior to the schedule session. Students will NOT receive their schedule if a parent does not

Immunizations
Receipt of the dose up to (and including) 4 days before the birthday will satisfy the school entry immunization requirement.
Serologic confirmation of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, hepatitis A or varicella or serologic evidence of infection is acceptable in place of vaccine.

Previous illness may be documented with a written statement from a physician, school nurse or the child’s parent or guardian containing wording such as, “This is to verify that (name
of student) had varicella disease (chickenpox) on or about (date) and does not need varicella vaccine.” This written statement will be acceptable in place of any and all varicella vaccine
doses required.

TRANSPORTATION
Who May Ride the Bus?
Special needs children when required by the ARD as a related service. These
children may ride a regular bus or, if required, a bus with an attendant.
Children who reside one or more miles from their school of assignment.
Children who reside in a hazardous area due to local traffic or street
conditions that would put them at risk of injury if they were to walk to
school. EXAMPLES are four lane streets or major traffic arteries (not
residential with no traffic controls, or no crossing guards in the case of
elementary students; railroad tracks, etc..
Students in the Bilingual or Advanced Academic Programs who live one or
more miles from their school of assignment.
Parents of eligible students (one or more miles from school) may choose
to have their child picked up or dropped off at a licensed childcare facility
as long as the facility location is within the boundary of your neighborhood
school.
How do I sign up for transportation?
Sign up at Centralized Registration (Aug 1-5) OR at your child’s school.
Please tell your school registrar you desire transportation for your
child(ren).
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD MISSES THE BUS
or GETS ON THE WRONG BUS?
Beginning the first day of classes, Temple ISD Transportation operates a
Misrouted Student Center. The purpose of the Center is to provide a safe and
central location for students who are still on the bus at the end of their route
or were mistakenly placed on the wrong route.
Students discovered to be misrouted will be reported by drivers through
transportation dispatch to the Center. The student will remain on the bus
through the end of the middle school route, and then they will then be taken
to the Misrouted Student Center. Once the Center is notified of a misrouted
student, school representatives and parents will be notified and alternate
transportation arranged. TISD School Nutrition will provide refreshments for
students while they wait.
To ensure the safe handling of misrouted students, representatives from each
campus will be located at the Center to receive the students. Parents and
guardians will be asked to provide proof of identification before students will
be released to them.
The location of the Center will be Edwards Academy at 1414 West Barton
Street. Parking for private vehicles is available on the east side of the building.
There will be representatives from each school, the district safety office and
the transportation office at the Misrouted Student Center.
Phone numbers for the center will be available from the neighborhood school
or the TISD reception office. Parents are encouraged to call their neighborhood
school if they believe their student has been misrouted.

DRESS AND GROOMING CODE
Students are required to use good judgment, to respect themselves and others, and to demonstrate modesty
in selecting attire. Temple ISD does not permit clothing with pictures, emblems, or writing that is lewd,
offensive, vulgar, or obscene or that advertises or depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or
any other substance that students are prohibited from having or using at school. All clothing should be
appropriate to the student’s age, the school setting, and weather conditions. Both students and parents share
the responsibility for the student’s attire because clothing often sets the pattern for behavior. To view the
entire Student Dress and Grooming Code, please consult the Student Handbook.
Some general guidelines to assist students and parents with Back to School Shopping:
•Pants must fit at the waist and be the appropriate size for the student.
•Skirts and shorts MUST reach to the top of the knee when standing.
•All shirts must have sleeves that cover the shoulders. No split or off-the-shoulder allowed.
•Shoes with wheels (heelies) are not permitted. Flip Flops are not permitted.
Student Identification (ID) Badges (Secondary Only)
•Student ID Badges are the property of Temple ISD. Lost or destroyed badges must be replaced at the
student’s expense.
•MIDDLE SCHOOL - The school issued ID badge must be visibly displayed and worn on a school appropriate
lanyard around the neck at all times while on campus.
•HIGH SCHOOL - The school issued ID badge must be in the possession of the student and available upon
request of a TISD Staff Member.
CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES
PK-Grade 8
Students may not visibly display or use cell phones, pagers, IPods (or other portable music players), handheld
gaming systems or other electronic devices on school property during the school day. Electronic Devices
visible or heard during school hours will be confiscated and returned to the parent upon payment of a $15
fee. Electronic Devices are available to be returned to a parent or guardian after a 30 day waiting period if the
fine is not paid. The school is not responsible for the loss or theft of items prohibited for possession on school
property, and school personnel will not investigate such losses or thefts.
High School
Cellular phones, IPODs, MP3 players, CD players, cameras and other electronic devices are not allowed to
interfere with instruction in any fashion at any time. Teachers and other staff will collect these devices if the
staff member determines that instruction is being hindered in any way (including repeatedly having to redirect
students who have these devices out or in use inside the classroom or other instructional venue). Collected
devices will only be returned to a parent or guardian at the end of the student’s instructional day and a $15.00
fee will be charged for any cell phones collected. Students will also receive a disciplinary referral for failure to
follow the Student Code of Conduct. The Temple Independent School District and Temple High School are not
responsible for damage or loss of confiscated items.

Meal Charge Policy
Elementary – Students may charge up to 3 meals max.
Middle School – Student may charge 1 meal max.
High School & Alternative Sites – No Charges Allowed.
No child will go hungry. An alternative meal will be
offered for any student that has charged beyond the
maximum allowed.
New Meal Pattern Regulations
USDA has released new meal patterns that will impact both the National School Lunch and Breakfast
Programs beginning July 1, 2012. The new standards are recommendations from the Institute of Medicine
and follow the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The regulations include:
• Offering fruits and vegetables as two separate components
• Offer fruit daily at breakfast and lunch
• Offer vegetables daily at lunch
• Require students to select a fruit or vegetable
• Weekly requirements for various types of vegetables
• Increases whole grain offerings
• Decrease calories
• Decreasing sodium
• Offering only fat-free or low-fat milk
Temple ISD School Nutrition remains committed to improving the health of children and will ensure
compliance with the new meal standards.
Free/Reduced Meal Program
A new meal benefits application must be submitted each school year for those interested in the free and reduced meal program. Only one application is needed for each household, unless
the application is for a foster child, run away, homeless or migrant student.
Students are eligible to receive meal benefits on last years status only until October 3, 2011. After October 3rd, students without a processed application on file will no longer be eligible for
the free/reduced priced meal program and will go to a full paid status. For assistance in completing the form please call (254) 215-6536.
The 2011-12 Meal Applications are available at the School Nutrition Office (208 W Ave F), the school cafeteria or school office on August 1, 2011. Applications may also be completed online
at http://mealapps.tisd.org. If you are new to Temple ISD, you can apply for the program at Centralized Registration.
Applying for the meal program provides other opportunities for High School students: Fee waived for SAT, ACT testing and College Applications, assistance with school Reduced Summer School
Program Fees, Reduced Fees for AP Test. Information about a student participation in the program is confidential.
