Welcome
Advance Notice – Ascension Day Dinner
A warm welcome to our service this morning! Please join us
for light refreshments after the service. If you are new or
visiting us, you are especially welcome. Please introduce
yourself to us at the Welcome Table in the front of the church
before or after the service. We welcome anyone who has
been baptized in any Church to receive Communion.
At Christ Church, we try to mark Ascension Day in a special
way. Ascension Day this year is on Thursday, May 14, and
although a little way off, we want to make sure that you get
the details in your diary. We will have a service in Church at
6.00pm followed by our Ascension Day Dinner. More
details to follow!

They sell all their possessions and give the proceeds to the

Love’s redeeming work is done
Jesus lives! thy terrors now

Alleluia, alleluia
Majesty, worship his majesty
Alleluia, alleluia, hearts to heaven
The Collect
Almighty Father,
you have given your only Son to die for our sins
and to rise again for our justification:
grant us so to put away
the leaven of malice and wickedness
that we may always serve you
in pureness of living and truth;
through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
The First Reading
Acts 4:32-35 (page 888)
The early believers share all that they have with each other.
1 John 1:1-2.2 (page 989)
John proclaims what he has known and experienced: Jesus
Christ. Those who believe in him walk in the light. Anyone
who says that they have no sin, do not know the truth. In
Jesus, we have forgiveness.
The Gospel
John 20:19-end (page 883)
Jesus has not yet ascended to heaven. He appears to the
disciples and commissions them for service in his name.
Thomas is not there on this occasion and refuses to believe
the others’ report of what has happened. Unless he sees for
himself, he will not believe. Jesus does appear to him and he
believes. All who believe in Christ may have life in his name.
The Post Communion Prayer
Lord God our Father,
through our Saviour Jesus Christ
you have assured your children of eternal life
and in baptism have made us one with him:
deliver us from the death of sin
and raise us to new life in your love,
in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
