News & Views June 2015 Never Too Old to Learn Have you learned everything there is to learn? Do you know all there is to know about everything? I hope you all said, “Of course not!” (If you didn’t, then I have a real surprise for you.) I think we all realize that we never stop learning and even if we were to have the sum total of human knowledge at our disposal, there would be new facts and discoveries already tomorrow so we would never really “know it all”. This isn’t only true of our human knowledge, it is also true of our spiritual knowledge. Not that there will be something new about God tomorrow, but there is so much more about God than we can ever really know. Therefore I conclude that none of us “knows it all” when it comes to knowing God. I would even go so far as saying that my own experience of knowing God and learning about Him is this: the more I learn and the more I know, the more aware I am of how much I don’t know! So, what’s the point? Why am I rambling on about this? No one’s arguing with me. In fact, I suspect no one is even disagreeing with my conclusions. The reason I’m stressing this point is I meet many people every week who think that they don’t need to learn any more about God. People act like they have no need to study Jesus’ Word because they’ve already completed their study and so they know all they need to know! Are you one of these people? If you’re not, then you must be taking advantage of the opportunities that come your way to study God’s Word. One such opportunity we’re trying to develop here at Christ Community Church is Sunday School for ALL ages. In fact, our Leadership Team has decided to keep Sunday School going through the summer...9:00 am every Sunday. And we’re adding a class for teenagers so that everyone from 3 year olds all the way up through 103 year olds have a class being offered for them where they can learn more about Jesus! I’ll be teaching the class for teens (youth who are in middle school through high school age) and I’m hoping many of you will come! In June our lessons are: “Keeping Our Eyes On Jesus” “Knowing Christ” “Knowing Christ - part 2” “Jesus Is Enough...and More Than Enough!” Pastor Richie will continue to teach the Adult Class which is presently studying Proverbs. In Luke 6 we read that Jesus said, “A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40 NASB) If you’re not perfectly and completely like Jesus yet, then you’re not done being trained yet. Basically, YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN! I hope to see you in Sunday School often this summer... Some of your favorite people will be taking time on the perch daring you to put them under! If you would like to see Pastor Richie, Jeff, Steve, Julie, or Terry dropped into a cold tub of water, get in line! As always, there will be food. If any of you had the privilege to attend Bible Camp in the summer growing up, you realize what a strong experience it can be. Yes, there is a lot of fun to be had, but having Bible time with kids your own age can change a life. We need to replenish our scholarship fund this year as it was depleted last year. So come, eat, and have some fun and support Christian growth in young lives! *Free-will offering for both the food & the dunk tank* News & Views Volume 26, Issue 6 Page 5 Sunday Worship Schedule June 7th-June 28th 9:00-9:55AM Sunday School (Classes for all ages) 10:00-10:15AM Coffee Fellowship 10:15AM Family Worship Service (Children’s Church Provided) For the month of June, we will continue our sermon series on the Book of James. We are hoping that some of you who volunteer to teach, listen and lead our children’s ministry and youth ministry programs during the school year will actually be able to come and join us during the summer when you aren’t having to teach. This will give you an opportunity to be fed instead of feeding! We’re continuing to study the Gospel of Luke and absolutely enjoying the rigorous discussions that arise from our study of the text. There’s so much to learn and so little time to cover it all, we never run out of things to talk about. Come and join us. You will most certainly be blessed! Everybody is welcome. If you can’t commit to being here every week, don’t worry about it. Each lesson is self-contained so you can be a part of any and each lesson that you are able to attend.
