Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Things Above from Fr. Bilot Here we are on the last weekend of May, the month dedicated to our Blessed Mother. I hope that during this month, you had an opportunity to pray the Rosary, reflect on the mystery of life, tied up in our relationship with the Lord. The rosary, though seemingly repetitious, engages the mind, body and the spirit, and allows all of our being to enter into prayer and into a relationship with Mary and the Lord. If you are not in the habit of praying the rosary daily, or at least a couple of times a week, with summer upon us, why not take a walk and pull a rosary out of your pocket and start praying! (If you don’t know how to pray the rosary, you can go online for a pictorial, or stop by the rectory and we will show you). With the beginning of June comes the end of the academic year. Within the next two weeks, all of our students will be out of school. Summer is a time to relax, rejuvenate the body and mind, and just spend free time with the Lord. Summer vacation should not be wasted on playing video games, hands glued to the cell phone, or mesmerized by the computer screen. If most of our time is spent on these activities, and no attention is given to our friend, Jesus, then we are probably in need of going to Confession and changing our habits. Summer vacation is an excellent time for school kids to help others. For instance, stop by a neighbor who does not receive a lot of company and just spend time talking or, more importantly, listening. Do some weeding, get your hands dirty in the earth, or go for a walk or bike ride to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Summer is also a great time to do some spiritual reading, especially the Bible. Allow your mind to absorb the mystery of God and his great love for us. There is so much we can do this summer that is productive, fun and, in the end, holy. The Lord is always available to us at the church or chapel. Come in and say hello! I love when I see our youth, on their own, come into church, light a candle, and say a prayer. Or, in the middle of the day, they park their bikes and go into the chapel to say hi to God. We so desperately need to connect with the Lord, and here at Divine Child, with the many places to pray indoors and outdoors, there is certainly a place for you! Page 3 God Bless you Fr. Mario Amore! O Jesus, Eternal Priest, look down with love upon Thy priests. Fill them with burning zeal for the conversion of sinners. Keep them within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart. Keep unstained their anointed hands which daily touch Thy Sacred Body. Keep unsullied their lips purpled with Thy precious Blood. Keep pure and unearthly their hearts sealed with the sublime marks of Thy glorious Priesthood. Let Thy holy love protect them from the world's contagion. Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they minister on earth be one day their joy and consolation in heaven. Amen. Blessings, Fr. Jim Bilot In honor of newly ordained, Fr. Mario Amore, there will be coffee and donuts after 9:30 am Mass, sponsored by Parish Council. Please join us in congratulating Fr. Amore while enjoying some delicious refreshments! Photo courtesy of Roberta Kulpa Page 4 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Fr. John Kopson’s Commentary We will finish the procession with Benediction inside the Church around the 1-hour mark. In case of rainy weather, we will have a Holy Hour of Adoration inside the Church immediately after the 1:00pm Mass. Corpus Christi Procession Details Thank you for worshipping the Lord Jesus with us! Next Sunday, which is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ), we will have our Eucharistic Procession through the neighborhood. God Bless You, Fr. John Here are the details: The procession will begin immediately after the 1:00pm Mass. All participants are encouraged to attend this Mass, since the procession will literally begin as the priest leaves the Altar with the Monstrance. As the priest passes by your pew, please file out and follow behind him. Anyone who is participating but not attending this Mass can join the procession from outside the front doors of the Church. Please wear light clothing that is appropriate for a June walk. The procession should last for about 40 minutes or so. Here is the route we will take (*subject to change): We will exit the Church through the front doors and make a left onto North Silvery Lane. We will then make a left onto Lawrence and then a left onto Gulley. We will make a left onto Marion (which is just past Herbert Weier). We will make a fairly quick left back onto the Divine Child Campus. (We should make it back to the campus in about a half-hour.) We will walk through the parking lot back onto Herbert Weier. We will then make a right onto Herbert Weier and make a right onto North Silvery Lane. Finally, we will walk back through the front Church doors and back into the Church. We will remain on the sidewalk throughout the procession. (Please watch your step, and please be mindful of our neighbors' lawns.) If you would prefer to remain in the Church during the procession, please feel free to spend the 40 minutes before the Lord in the Tabernacle. Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession Church of the Divine Child Feast of Corpus Christi, Sunday June 7 Following the 1:00pm Mass (See details in Fr. Most dead ends in life are not clearly marked. It usually takes time and careful discernment to figure out that the road we're on is going nowhere... or has a brick wall at the end of it... or provides no access to where we think we're headed. If you're careening down a dead end street, can you just turn around? Perhaps it's a three step process of slowing down, stopping, and then turning around. CSA Marriage and Family Life Engaged couples across the Archdiocese of Detroit have been preparing for summer nuptials through marriage preparation programs. Catholic marriage is a calling from God to a shared vocation of life and love. Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal allow the archdiocesan Office for Marriage and Family Life to assemble marriage preparation programs designed to help couples build a foundation for this sacred union. These programs provide valuable opportunities, away from the distractions of wedding preparations, for couples to prayerfully discuss their future life together. The office also offers support services and programs that enrich and nurture people in every stage of the family life cycle, beyond the newlywed stage. For more information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, go to www.AOD.org.
