Friday, August 21, 2015 7:30am-8:30am Breakfast Ade Dining Hall 9:45am Allen Walk & 2015 Opening Convocation (Required) Meet at Powell Campus Center to join the class walk to McLane Center. New students will walk from Powell to McLane through “Allen Walk” officially beginning our 180th year of learning. Convocation is an important event to welcome you to your new journey at Alfred. There will be opening remarks by President Charles Edmondson and Student Senate President Keshawn Laplante. Come make your own ice cream sundaes! 3:30pm-5:00pm Language* Placement Exam Science Center, Roon Lecture Hall *French, German & Spanish exams Who is required to take the Placement Exam? • Students who have taken more than two years of a language in high school and are planning to take the same language at AU must take the exam. • Students who are bilingual or native speakers or who have spoken the language at home. • Students who wish to demonstrate proficiency in another language should contact Dr. Kerry Kautzman about procedures. • Students do NOT need to take the exam if they did not study a language previously or if they are planning to take a different language in college. The Placement Exam may only be taken once per language. No credit is given for passing the Placement Exam. If you don’t have a bike, you can rent a bike from the Bike Hub on the first floor of the Powell Campus Center. The bike tour will leave from the Bike Hub. 2:00pm & 3:00pm Historic Walking Tour This 45-minute walking tour, led by University Archivist and AU graduate Laurie McFadden, will introduce you to the history and heritage of Alfred. The tour will begin and end at the King Alfred statue. 2:00pm & 3:00pm Pine Hill Trail Hike This hike will be led by our Forest People Club who will guide you on a trail right on our campus. 2:00pm & 3:00pm Community Service Join service learning coordinator Corey Fecteau for a brief community service project in the village. Departs from front of Kanakadea Hall. 2:00pm-4:00pm Open Gym, Pool, and Fitness Center Come to the Health and Wellness Annex for a game of basketball or a nice run on the indoor track.
