Final Road Improvements on North Road
Evergreen Line crews will commence the final road improvement work on North Road the week of May 4.
Residents and businesses immediately adjacent to North Road are reminded that paving will occur at night due to
the high volumes of daytime traffic in this area.
Paving requires warm, dry weather conditions, so this work is weather dependent. Crews may start and stop work
as weather permits and therefore the schedule is subject to change.
WHAT TO EXPECT

Beginning the week of May 4 and continuing intermittently for up to two weeks, crews will be milling,
grading and paving 24 hours a day as weather permits on North Road between Cottonwood Avenue and
Lougheed Highway.

Crews will start on the northbound North Road lanes between Cottonwood Avenue and Lougheed Highway
as follows:
o
Milling will occur during the day between Cottonwood Avenue and Cochrane Avenue and then at
night between Cochrane Avenue and Lougheed Highway.
o
Crews will be paving all of North Road northbound between Cottonwod Avenue and Lougheed
Highway at night.

Once this work is complete, crews will shift to the North Road southbound lanes and the same sequence
will occur.

During milling and paving, one lane on North Road will be maintained in each direction at all times.

There will be temporary parking restrictions on North Road adjacent to the work area. Please watch for
signs that will include the dates and times when parking restrictions are in place.

There will be some temporary turning restrictions to the side streets while this work is underway. Please
follow the directions of traffic control personnel and posted detour signs while final road improvements are
underway.

When paving on North Road at Austin Avenue is underway between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., there will be a full
closure of the intersection. Drivers travelling on Austin Avenue will be detoured while this closure is in
effect.


Nearby residents can expect construction-related noise, including the use of heavy equipment and material
hauling. Every effort will be made to complete nosier activities earlier in the evening to minimize
disruptions. Crews will minimize the use of back-up beepers, however they are required for safety.

When crews are working at night, construction lighting will be used and efforts will be made to angle the
lighting away from nearby residents.

Drivers will experience delays while this work is underway. Drivers should follow the directions of traffic
control personnel and posted signs for detour routes. Commuters should consider alternate routes.
Business Access

Disruption to business access will be minimized as much as possible. Business access signs will be installed
so entrance points or temporary alternate access points are clearly marked.

Traffic control personnel will assist drivers wishing to access businesses in this area while this work is
underway.
Pedestrians, Cyclists and Transit Users

For the safety of all pedestrians and cyclists, please follow the directions of traffic control personnel and
posted detour signs while construction is underway.

To ensure the safety of transit users, bus stops on Clarke Road will be temporarily shifted away from active
construction. Please watch for transit signs that will indicate the temporary location of bus stops starting in
early May or visit TransLink’s website for more information.
Thank you again for your continued patience and understanding while we work to complete the final road
improvements on North Road. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Traffic Information Line at
