June 19-21, 2015 In and around Fairfield Arts and Convention Center, Fairfield, Iowa www.fairfestiowa.com; on Facebook and Twitter Keepin’ It Free 2013 was a lucky year for Fairfield and southeast Iowa. It was the year a small group of community lovers, led by the founders of the local community radio station, realized their vision of creating an annual weekend festival in the cultural confines of their own hometown. And the kicker? Offer all the music for free! No gates, no lines, no admission tickets, or fees. Just an open invite to come and enjoy high quality national, regional and local bands in the Heartland. Thus the inaugural FAIRfest was born, featuring over 40 bands, plus speakers and corollary events. Situated on the third weekend in June, FAIRfest has quickly become “a signature event,” according to Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy at the spring press conference. The first festival went off without a hitch and drew over 5,000 people. Fairfield city father Dave Neff told organizers, “People have been talking about doing something like this for decades and you pulled it off. Congratulations!” On the heels of that success, plans for FAIRfest 2014 began almost immediately. With greater local buy in and national acts like Los Lobos, David Lindley and Rebirth Brass Band, attendance tripled to 15,000 people and generated $250,000 in local revenues, according to an economic impact survey by the Economic Development Association. The inspired sense of community and celebration of all things Fairfield that emerged around FAIRfest created a buzz that lasted for weeks and propelled us on to 2015! 3 days, 3 stages, 50 bands!
