GUELPH HUMANE SOCIETY ORGANIZATION: The Guelph Humane Society Incorporated (GHS) is a non-profit registered charity that relies on community support to shelter and care for animals in Guelph and Wellington County. Each year the GHS cares for approximately 3000 animals in need, providing animal sheltering and adoption services, veterinary care, animal protection services and a progressive spay/neuter program. The Society also boasts strong humane education programs that impact thousands of children and youth annually. LOCATION: 500 Wellington Street West, Guelph, ON TITLE: Communication & Events Coordinator HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends required) JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Fund Development Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of communication initiatives and community relations activities, including events, promotion, media relations, and website/social media that support the overall mission, as well as maintaining a positive public image of the GHS. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Act as media liaison for GHS, including draft media releases, attend TV and radio appearances regularly and coordinate with staff when a spokesperson is required Maintain list of media contacts, advertiser and vendor contacts Participate in planning of communications strategies and community engagement initiatives Support and collaborate with other areas of the organization to promote education, activities and organization success Work with development staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure consistent use of GHS brand standards Maintain and update GHS website, Facebook, Twitter and other relevant social media as well as develop and enforce social media policies for the organization Act as a community liaison with all members of the community, including businesses and individuals Plan, coordinate and implement all GHS events, including all special events, major fundraising events, “friend-raising” activities, the annual general meeting and any other special events Assist and guide the organization in measuring the community impact of the GHS Assist in developing and be accountable for strategic plan and budget as developed by workgroup team Complete other duties as assigned by the Fund Development Manager KEY QUALIFICATIONS: Post-secondary education in a related field, or equivalent experience Advanced computer literacy required with expertise in WordPress, Adobe Design Suite, MS Office suite, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube Experience in maintaining websites and developing internet content Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with superior organizational skills Fundraising experience, preferably in events and community relations Experience or training in project-management with ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and respond promptly to a variety of requests Demonstrated media relations background and presentation skills Experience or training in event management, with a proven track record of successful special events, involving sponsors, volunteers and community partners Experience with marketing, promotions and advertising Experience with volunteer committees Valid Ontario Driver’s license with access to a vehicle Comfortable handling domestic animals General knowledge of animal welfare and humane society activities SALARY RANGE: $14.25 to $15.50 per hour If you are interested in this opportunity and have the above qualifications, please forward your resume with a covering letter by April 10th, 2015 to: Adrienne McBride Executive Director PO Box 684 500 Wellington Street West Guelph, ON N1H 6L3 Email: ED@guelphhumane.ca We thank all applicants for your interest in the Guelph Humane Society; however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
