Each Year Level and the Specialist Team have prepared an engaging and significant curriculum. They will be relaying details of the term’s overall plan next week in their Curriculum Newsletter. The teaching and learning program is focussed on teaching the skills of reading, writing and number but also goes a lot deeper to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live. Our program assists students to develop a deeper understanding of who they are and also consider other people’s perspectives. We actively develop our school value of acceptance, valuing diversity within our school and beyond, fostering a caring of humanity. We encourage an increasing awareness of the state of the planet with the intention of cultivating care and hope. In the older years they start to develop an understanding of world issues and trends. Our overarching goal is to help everyone be the best learners they can be, and to live responsibly with each other. Our school values of respect, acceptance, integrity and life-long learning underpin all of our work. I want to share with you a beautiful moment in a Year 1 class when students were inquiring into ‘What is Science’? One child stated ‘holding bubbles in your hand’. We are in a very privileged role as teachers sharing many special moments with your children. Heany Park Primary School - The Weekly Well www.heanyparkps.vic.edu.au Prep 2016 Information Night This week I have had great pleasure in visiting three local kinders. What inspiring creative learning spaces they are. It was good to talk with each centre’s staff about child centred learning and transition to school. We are now taking enrolments for Prep 2016 at HPPS. We are holding an Information Evening for any interested parents. Everyone is welcome, please spread the word. Date: 5 May Time: 7:00pm Venue: School Library If you are already a HPPS family and have a Prep child starting next year please call into the office and collect your enrolment pack. Any interested parents may also attend any of the ‘Celebration of Learning Assemblies’ being held for Education Week. The dates are below. Education Week in May This year we are holding special ‘Celebration of Learning Assemblies’ on the following dates. An invitation will be sent home in a few weeks to our school families. Prep: Year 1: Year2/3: Year 4: Year 5: Year 6: 18 May 9.00 - 10:00am 22 May 2:30 - 3:30pm 29 May 9.00 - 10:00am 22 May 9 .00- 10:00am 29 May 9 .00- 10:00am 18 May 2:30 - 3:30pm Assessment and Reporting - Three Way Conferences at the end of term 2 Your child’s portfolio will be used at the ‘Three Way Conference’ in the last week of Term 2 to celebrate his/her learning and make new goals for the next level of work. All parents will be invited to attend the ‘Three Way Conference’ with their child and class teacher, this is an integral part of the educative process. Your child’s written report will be sent home prior to this. If for any reason you have a need to speak with your child’s teacher about a concern or confidential matter please make an appointment at the time of need. It would not be appropriate to wait until the end of Term 2. Addressing concerns or perceived needs is important and must be attended to at the time. Heany Park Primary School - The Weekly Well www.heanyparkps.vic.edu.au Mrs Moore would like to invite you and your families/friends or anyone who may be interested in this concert at the Karralyka Theatre on 18th of April. It is to commemorate this significant event in Australia’s history. Maroondah Brass is a community organisation, supported by the Maroondah City Council and the Ringwood RSL. Members are all volunteers who enjoy creating music and entertaining people. Mrs Moore plays the baritone (google it) in the band with her husband who is the conductor. The program consists of music from the WWI era with some WWII and Vietnamese mix in there also. Make sure you take your singing voices along for a WWI sing along. It will have a good mix of light and reflective music. So, if you’re looking for something different to do on Saturday the 18th, maybe an intro into the world of brass bands is just what you need! Myself, along with RSA’s Head Volleyball Coach Peter Bundy, were very impressed with the willingness and dedicated nature or our students , with Heany Park bringing 24 boys and 20 girls from Year 6 to participate in the event – the most of any other school in the area. The students competed in a modified volleyball tournament, received a tour of the state of the art facilities at the academy and also a gift pack for their participation. I congratulate the students for the sportsmanship they showed on the day. We would like to thank the Rowville Sports Academy for their generosity in providing transportation for Heany Park staff and students.
