IF
you feel stuck in your circumstances,
or maybe you’re discouraged or disappointed in the way things have turned
out in your life, I want to encourage you. Don’t
give up! Even if you have to start over again, you
can do it. It’s not too late…it’s never too late!
Life can put us in some pretty difficult situations
sometimes. And it can be overwhelming when we
don’t know what to do next or if we feel like we’ve
failed in some way. It can actually cause us to
feel like we’re stuck, and that’s a hard place to be.
However, it may also be the best place to experience God’s amazing grace in your life!

The Bible tells many stories of failure. But not
all those stories end that way. Jesus’ crucifixion
must have seemed like the ultimate failure
to those who watched Him suffer on a cross
and die. But His resurrection was the ultimate
victory over sin for us all!
We have a new life in Christ! Second
Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore if any person
is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new
creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed
away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
And we can have a fresh start whenever we need
one. This is especially good to remember when
we make a mistake or fail in some way. We don’t
have to beat ourselves up or wallow around in
guilt because of a weakness. With the help of the
Holy Spirit, we can always have a “do-over!” Just
be patient with yourself, because new beginnings
usually require a measure of determination and
perseverance.

in her life, but was filled with self-condemnation. She
shared with us how she fell on her knees one night, and
in tears cried out, “God, I just don’t think you love me

compelled to read the Bible, she took a barely-used Bible

For me, it was the memory of sexual
abuse I experienced as a child. For
many years I was stuck in a place of
anger and bitterness because of what
happened to me. I had a big chip on
my shoulder and wanted someone to
pay for what had happened to me. I
took my feelings out on everybody
around me. Then I would feel guilty
for the way I was, get on my knees
and pray over and over again “Please
forgive me, Lord.” Then finally one
day I heard God way down in my
spirit say, Joyce, I forgave you the first
time you asked me. Now you have to
forgive yourself and move on. I had to
receive His free gift of grace so I could
release my past, and little by little,
move on from it.

Have you ever noticed all the people
throughout the Bible that God gave
a fresh start? Moses was an old man
before he had an encounter with a
burning bush and was called by God
to lead a nation. Then David, a humble
shepherd boy, was anointed to be the
king of Israel. Peter, the apostle who
denied Christ, was forgiven and called
to spend the rest of his life preaching
and glorifying God. And Paul, who
once persecuted God’s people, was
transformed on the road to Damascus
and ended up writing much of the
New Testament.
God of “do overs,” second chances,
fresh starts and new beginnings.
And He doesn’t have any limit on how
many you can have. But sometimes,
we lose sight of what God can do
because of something in the past that
has us stuck, unable to move forward
with the wonderful plans He so
desperately wants to reveal to us.

in you and will claim you as his bride.

Maybe you’re stuck, frozen in a
moment. It might be past abuse. It
could be a personal failure of some
kind or something completely beyond
your control, like an illness or the
death of a loved one. Perhaps you’ve
been disappointed by an unmet
expectation—nothing turned out the
way you wanted it to. So you think, it’s
over. It’s too late for me.
But it isn’t too late. It’s never too late
to have a fresh start when you have
life in Christ. Your past is not your
destiny. If you refuse to give up hope,
and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you
out of your “stuck” place, not only will
God restore what you had, He will
make your life even better:
And I will restore or replace for you the

But you have to learn to take a step of

on water if you won’t get out of the
boat (see Matthew 14:28-29). It may
be harder than you thought—and it
may cost you something. But if you
follow the Holy Spirit’s leading, it will
produce good fruit in your life.
Romans 6:13 (NLT) says, …Give yourselves completely to God, for you were
dead, but now you have new life. So use
your whole body as an instrument to do
what is right for the glory of God.
So often God leads but we don’t want
to go where He’s leading. We must
learn how to yield instead of being
resistant—learn to surrender instead
BABY STEPS OF FAITH
Second Corinthians 5:17 says if
anyone is in Christ they are a new
creation. When you were born again,
He gave you a new heart and a new
way of living. But in the beginning,
we are all like babies learning to walk.
When babies take their first steps,
they fall down many times. But they
always get back up and try again. God
is asking you to do the same thing.
When you fall down in life, you have
to get back up, regroup and take
another step. But no matter how many
times you fall down, eventually you
will get to where you need to be—if
you will simply choose not to give up.
Your new beginning is closer than you
think. Just keep walking!

Trials reveal what we really believe and what’s really
inside our hearts. They test us. And until we have to deal
with a specific situation, we really don’t know what we
would do.
James 1:2 says we should “consider it wholly joyful” when
we experience a trial or face a temptation. Verse three goes
on to say that “the trial and proving of your faith bring out
endurance and steadfastness and patience.”
I remember the days when I would get upset and complain
whenever things didn’t go my way. I had no peace and was
emotionally unstable. When I was tested by trials, they
brought out the jealousy, confusion and negative attitudes
that were in my heart.
1. SEEK GOD’S STRENGTH DURING TIMES OF
TEMPTATION.
During hard times, we can be tempted to revert back to
an old behavior, habit or addiction. For instance, I smoked
for many years, and after I quit there was period of time
when I would want a cigarette whenever I was upset or felt
pressured by something.
But I love what 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: During temptation,
God will [always] provide the way out (the means of escape
to a landing place), that you may be capable, strong and
powerful to bear up under it patiently. When temptation
comes, run to God! Ask Him to strengthen you in that area
and help you to keep moving forward.
2. FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE AND THANK GOD
FOR HIS GOODNESS.
When times get tough, it’s easy to complain, be angry with
God, or resent people who don’t have the same problems
we have. However, these things will only keep us stuck
where we are and affect our lives in a destructive way.

Sometimes God allows us to go through difficulties in this
life because it’s during those times that we grow in our
faith and develop more of the character of Christ.
Here are a few tips to help you pass your tests:
CYAN
The truth is we all go through hard times, and we can
either trust God to help us deal with them or choose to
give up. But if we give up, we won’t move forward in life
and experience God’s best for us.
We can face our trials and tests with joy when we understand that it’s by going through them that we learn how
to live in God’s peace, joy and wisdom—whatever our
circumstances may be.
Magenta
Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that in this
world we will have tribulation and trials.
But He follows it up with good news! He says, Be of good
cheer…I have overcome the world.
But through the years, as I’ve studied the Word and
learned how to trust God, I have developed more of the
qualities and character of Christ in my life. I’m still a work
in progress, but now I’m much more patient—even in the
difficult times. But it was the trials I went through that
helped get me to this point.

The antidote? Choose to praise God for the blessings in
your life. Place your focus on Him and thank Him for His
love and faithfulness. As you do, you will magnify the
good…and push out the bad.
3. TRUST GOD WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE
THE ANSWERS.
At one time or another, all of us have probably thought,
Why is this happening to me?! But instead of wondering
why and feeling sorry for ourselves, we need to say, “Don’t
panic…this is only a test!” Because here’s the truth: This
too will pass, and we’ll get through it with more peace and
stability if we’ll trust God to do what is best for us at the
right time and in His way.

Hand of Hope’s Recent Medical
Outreach Brought Me Back To
A Place I Love
BY LAURA MATHENY
Every year, Hand of Hope, Joyce Meyer Ministries
World Missions conducts free medical/dental
clinics around the world. And as one of their
medical outreach coordinators, I’ve gotten
a chance to travel far and wide…and watch
God work miracles in the lives of people who
desperately need help.
But for me, this outreach was going to be special.
You see, Nairobi is my home town. Well, actually, my family is from Louisiana. But from the
time I was young, my parents—Don and Amy
Matheny—have been independent missionaries
in Kenya. In fact, about twenty-five years ago,
they founded Nairobi Lighthouse Church.
The oldest of six children, I returned to the
United States when I was 18 to attend Bible
school…then eventually nursing school.
My heart’s desire was to someday come
back to Nairobi with a skill and serve the
people there like my parents have for so
many years.
BLACK
But life has a way of surprising you.
Through a series of events, I stayed in
the U.S. and began volunteering for
Joyce Meyer Ministries’ medical/dental
outreaches. That is where I found my
calling. One thing led to another, and
today I am privileged to work on
these outreaches full time. And in the
summer of 2013, my work led me back
to a place very close to my heart…
“IT TAKES SO LITTLE” My dream of being

a nurse in Kenya was fulfilled in a way I could
have never imagined. Here I was leading a Hand
of Hope medical/dental team, working in partnership with my family and Nairobi Lighthouse
Church to help so many people in need.

For one week, we treated patients in Nairobi’s
Huruma Slums. Each day, the number of people
increased. As word spread, we began seeing
patients who traveled from miles away in the
countryside.
People walked from miles around to attend our
medical/dental outreach in Nairobi, Kenya.

When baby Anne arrived at the clinic, she was
running a 104° fever and hadn’t eaten in days.
Her mother was very scared. We immediately
gave her medicine and fluids to lower her temperature, then administered a simple test which
confirmed she had malaria. Left undetected,

little Anne likely would have died.
But we caught it in time…and gave her
lifesaving medication to fight
the disease.
No matter how many times I do this,
I’m always amazed at how little it
takes to save a life. So many in the
slums can’t afford a doctor. And many
times the local physicians don’t even
have access to proper medications or
testing devices.

.
THE DAY WE MET BABY
MOSES On the fourth day of this
outreach, something happened that I
will never forget…
One of our first patients was a
two-week-old Kenyan baby. A woman
found him abandoned in a nearby
field. She appropriately named
him Moses…then brought him to us
because she had run out of diapers
and baby formula.
Other than a slight eye infection,
Moses was healthy and strong. The
woman wanted to continue caring
for him, so we connected her with a
clinic in the area that will follow up
on them. We also introduced her to
an orphanage affiliated with Nairobi
Lighthouse Church—just in case her
situation becomes unmanageable.
But Moses really struck a chord with me…
When David came home with us, he
was only seven weeks old…and he’s
been a part of our family ever since.
After having five girls of their own, he
was the boy my parents never had. He
is truly my father’s African son.
To me, David’s whole life is just a
glimpse of the heart of God…that He
cares enough to reach us wherever
circumstances may take us.
The day Moses came to the clinic, I
ran out to find David and said, “You
have got to see this!” David was so
touched, and he immediately went
out to buy Moses some diapers and
formula…then sat and held him in his
arms while he fed him.
As his sister, it was such a precious
moment. It was like stepping back in
time and seeing David rescued all over
again. That day we prayed for Moses
and spoke blessings over his life. It is
something I will always treasure.
OVER 5,000 “SERVED” By the
end of the week, our team treated
5,169 patients in all. We also had the
chance to pray for thousands, with
more than 265 people giving their
lives to the Lord! And it goes far
beyond the numbers…
I’ll never forget the group of Somali
refugees who came through the clinic.
They were devout Muslims and very
closed to the Gospel. One man, on his
way out, leaned over and whispered
to one of our volunteers, “I know who
Joyce is…I watch her on TV.”
I believe our acts of love—our serving
these people—will have a greater
effect than we ever realize.
For me, my experience in Nairobi
brought me full circle, back to the
place where it all began. And this
fall—in September—our medical
teams will return to Kenya again. It’s
a chance to reach even more people
with the love of Christ.
And it’s another chance for me to serve
the people and the place I love so dearly.

Moved with compassion, one of our
doctors bought Maureen her very

and the proper attention she so
desperately needs.

Eighteen years ago, a German family
attended my parents’ church. They
held in their arms a baby who was
abandoned in these same Huruma,
Nairobi slums. They loved and cared
for him, but they were returning to
Germany and, without the appropriate papers, they couldn’t take the
child with them.

When 25-year-old Maureen came into
the clinic, her blood sugar registered
554—dangerously high. Diabetic since
she was eight, Maureen had already
lost one of her legs due to infection.
Without a glucometer, she had no
way to check her sugar level. She ran
out of insulin the day before and had
nowhere to turn for help.

One evening, as Lucy flipped through the

program called Enjoying Everyday Life.
“I was so needy to hear any positive comment,”
she says. “So I kept watching. The next day I
checked to see if this lady would be on at the

Day by day, God’s Word began to free Lucy
from depression.
“Joyce explained God’s Word in such a way
that it gave me what I needed,” said Lucy, who
challenged herself to think positively about her
life, from the perspective of God’s Word. “It was

Grateful for the ways God’s used this

THE
CHALLENGE!
HOW STUDYING GOD’S WORD WILL
LITERALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE
BY JOYCE MEYER
F
or more than 35 years now I
have been studying the Word
and it has drastically changed
my life. It’s been the key to radical
transformation in my perspectives
and attitudes, and God has healed
and restored my spirit, soul and body
through the power in His Word. Even
now, I’m still continually amazed by
all of the benefits we have access to in
God’s Word.
And He said to them, Be careful what you
are hearing. The measure [of thought
and study] you give [to the truth you
hear] will be the measure [of virtue and
knowledge] that comes back to you….
—Mark 4:24
As a Bible teacher, my desire is to help
people find the healing and restoration they need through salvation
in Christ and a personal, intimate
relationship with God. John 14:6 tells
us Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the
Life. So for us to become what He has
created us to be and represent Him
well in the world, we must mature in
our faith by growing in our relationship with Him.
CYAN
BLACK
I have a challenge for you:
Study the Bible 30 minutes
a day for 30 days and
experience a deeper
relationship with God that
will make your life better
than it’s ever been!
Magenta
The best way to develop your relationship with Jesus is through prayer
and studying the Word. John 1:1 tells
us that He is the Word, so if we love
Jesus, then we will love God’s Word.
Yellow
In many parts of the world, we are
blessed in this day and age to have
easy access to God’s Word and lots
of opportunity to attend church. But
at times I wonder why there are so
many in church, yet we aren’t seeing
the influence of God’s love and power
in the world like we should. Think
about it: 12 disciples turned the world
upside down as a result of following
Jesus. Is the Church at large today
turning the world to Christ?
Now, I realize there are strong,
mature Christians in the body of
Christ today who are doing great
things for God. But I believe there
are many more who are struggling
to mature in their faith and do what
God is calling them to do.
As I’ve prayed about this, I’ve come to
a simple conclusion: If we don’t study
God’s Word consistently and apply
this truth to our lives, we will lack the
power we need to mature in Christ and
glorify God in the world.
Many people are intimidated by the
word “study,” but studying God’s
Word is actually simple to do and
it’s extremely valuable for us. It’s
not something we have to do to stay
on God’s good side, and we aren’t

• Begin with prayer—ask the Holy

• Slow down—Remember, more

quality, not quantity.
• Predetermine to obey what you
learn—God will give you the grace
to do it as you lean on Him.

that stand out to you.
• Meditate on Scripture—mull it over

If there’s a specific topic you want to
learn about, you could focus on passages
that cover the subject. For example,
Hebrews 11 is all about faith and 1
Corinthians 13 teaches us about God’s
love. Or you could go through the book
of Proverbs, which has 31 chapters, and
study the chapter that corresponds with
each day of the month.

FEATURING
• Approach the Word with reverence and make it a priority. The
important thing is to work your
schedule around God, rather than
working God into your schedule.
• You have the freedom to be
flexible—first thing in the morning,
lunchtime, during your commute to
work, evening, before bedtime, etc.
God will show you when to schedule
your time if you’re struggling to
figure it out.
• Consider how you will apply
what you learn to your life and
the steps you will take to do it.
• If you are struggling with
something in your life, study
scriptures that address the issue.
• If something in particular
struck a chord while you were
studying, take time the next day to
dig in to the topic more; a concordance is helpful for this.
• Determine to be focused—if
you are easily distracted, silence
your phone and wait until you are
finished to respond to emails and
texts; jot down things on your
to-do list if they come to mind so
you can keep your focus.
• Be serious about your commitment and stick with it.
Consistency is key. Mark 4:24 says:
The measure [of thought and study]
you give [to the truth you hear]
will be the measure [of virtue and
knowledge] that comes back to you.
Yellow
Now, there are no “rules” you have
to follow or a specific reading plan
you need to accomplish. It’s good for
you to determine what you will study
during the 30 days so you won’t get
frustrated with a lack of direction and
feel like you don’t know what to do.
But you have freedom to be led by the
Holy Spirit in finding the approach
that works best for you.

Take the 3030
Challenge!
This scripture shows us that the measure [of thought and study] that
we give [to the truth {we} hear] will be the measure [of virtue and
knowledge] that comes back to us. It’s simple, but we have to put some
time and effort into the process if we are going to learn about who God
is and get what we need from His Word.
Preparation is key to successfully achieving a goal. The following
questions will help you prepare to jump into the challenge with
confidence that you can do it!
1. What time of day will you schedule for your 30 minutes of Bible study for the 30
days of the challenge? Consider this carefully because it’s important to be consistent and keep this time a top priority.
…Be careful what you are hearing.
The measure [of thought and study]
you give [to the truth you hear]
will be the measure [of virtue and
knowledge] that comes back to

godly virtue and moral principles, the government of a free people cannot be maintained.
“The Religion of America” — Several of the
Founders have left us with descriptions of their
basic religious beliefs. In particular, Benjamin
Franklin summarized what he felt were the “fundamental points in all sound religion.”
Just look at what he says in a now-famous letter
to Ezra Stiles, president of Yale University:

Wow! And not only did Franklin hold these views,
but the five main religious beliefs expressed in
this letter also appear in nearly all of the other
Founders’ writings.
This push has even led our courts to
take bold, unconstitutional measures
to change laws and erase God and
Christian principles from the system–something our Founding Fathers
warned us about.
This creed was met with so much approval that
it was commonly referred to as “The Religion
of America.”
But one thing is for sure: The architects of America believed that without

in our government.
Here is my creed: I believe in one God, the Creator
of the universe. That he governs it by his providence.
That he ought to be worshipped. That the most
acceptable service we render to him is in doing
good to his other children. That the soul of a man is
immortal, and will be treated with justice in another
life respecting its conduct in this. These I take to be
the fundamental points in all sound religion.1

The Ingredients for Success — When
the First Constitutional Convention
convened in 1787, they literally made
history when they produced and signed
a revolutionary document: the Constitution of the United States of America.
But from the very beginning, they knew
this new form of government, this republic, could not be maintained without
the primary ingredients of Christian
morality and virtue—both among the
people and within the government itself.

Samuel Adams later echoed his remarks: “I thank God that I have lived to
see my country independent and free.
She may long enjoy her independence
and freedom if she will. It depends on
her virtue.”4
In fact, when the French philosopher,
Alexis de Tocqueville, visited the
United States in 1831, he became so impressed with the inseparable relationship between liberty and the principles
of Christianity that he went home and
wrote one of the best definitive studies
on the American Constitutional system.

religion prevents them from conceiving, and forbids
them to commit, what is rash and unjust.”5
The Tale of Two Countries — De Tocqueville
benefitted from a unique perspective; he had a
front row seat to witness both the American and
French Revolutions. While these countries shared
a passion for liberty and independence, their
outcomes couldn’t have been any different.
By the end of the 1700s, he had watched the promoters of “atheism and amorality” seize control of
his homeland and turn the French Revolution into a
shocking blood bath of wild excesses and violence.6
While inspired by the American Revolution, the
French never enjoyed the same success because
they overlooked the very foundation of our Constitution—God.
George Washington, U.S. President at the time,
reminded his own people that “religion and
morality are indispensable supports,” and asked
who “can look with indifference upon attempts to
shake the foundation of the fabric?”7
And Washington’s words have never meant more
than they do right now.
For too long, Christians have looked with indifference as many in this country have desperately
tried to pull apart the inseparable bands of
liberty and Christian virtue…to remove God once
and for all from our past and our future.
It’s time for us to wake up and heed the warning
of our Founding Fathers.
They are the ones who believed that religion and
morality are the cornerstones of a free government. They believed that maintaining our virtue
and Christian principles is the greatest way to
secure our liberty and happiness.
They believed in Almighty God…the very Fabric
of America.

Attitudes
That Keep People In Bondage
If you’re dwelling on a painful past,
decide to believe by faith, “I know God
has good plans for me and something
good is going to happen to me.”
When you speak God’s Word over
your circumstances, it unleashes His
power and provision in your life.

PLEASE MAKE THINGS EASY
FOR ME
Maybe you think it’s just too hard and
you just can’t take it anymore. But you
are stronger than you think! Don’t let
the enemy convince you that you are
helpless. God’s Word says, “I can do all
things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV). Look
to Him to pull you up and give you
strength to deal with whatever life

other people to fix your problems.
Instead, say, “I’m a responsible person

Do you know what a “fault finder”
is? It’s someone who ignores all the
good qualities in people and looks

in Philippians 2, Paul teaches that
we are to have a humble, unselfish
attitude that puts other people first.
Instead of looking for what’s wrong or

I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO WAIT
Too often we get impatient with God.
We want what we want, and we want
it NOW. Learn how to wait on God.
Trust Him to do things in His timing
and be willing to pray, “Lord, if it’s not
right for me, I don’t want it anyway.”
We all spend more time waiting than
doing anything else, so learn to wait
well. Instead of saying, “I’ll be happy
when…” why not be happy now? As you
learn to wait patiently, you’re showing
God you are mature enough to handle
the things He wants to give you.

IT’S SOMEBODY ELSE’S FAULT
In the book of Genesis, when God confronted Adam and Eve about eating
the forbidden fruit, Adam blamed
Eve. Eve blamed the devil. Nobody
was willing to face the truth and
say, “I made a big mistake…I take full
responsibility.” God wants us to take
responsibility for our mistakes and
admit them. When we do that, we’re
forgiven and we can move forward. So
when you do something wrong, don’t
shift the blame. Confess it, ask for
forgiveness and move on.

SELF-PITY
Self-pity is a big waste of time, doesn’t
change anything and it just makes
you miserable. Do you really want to
go on being miserable? God wants to
give you beauty for your ashes, but
first you have to surrender your ashes.
The bottom line is, you can be pitiful
or powerful, but you can’t be both.
Why not choose to be powerful?
What Attitude Will
You Choose?
People can take a lot of things away
from you, but no one can take away
your good attitude. Even if you’re
dealing with a lifetime of negative
or destructive attitudes, it’s not too
late to change. Through the power of
the Holy Spirit, you can get there. It’s
never too late as long as you let God be
in charge of the process.

Once upon a time life was full

A failure. An experience that

Becky and her husband saw

God can do something

The Next
Step
HOW GOD TURNED MY “DEAD END”
INTO THE LIFE I’VE ALWAYS WANTED
BY CHUCK CHAPMAN
I HAD WORKED FOR 20 YEARS as a teacher,
coach and administrator. Having “climbed the
ladder,” I was 45 years old and supposed to be in
the prime of my career.
Instead, through a series of events, I suddenly
found myself out of a job with limited prospects
for another one in that field. I was stuck.

I taught English for 15 years, and it has always
been my dream to someday write a book. In fact,
deep down I knew that writing was a big part of
God’s plan for my life.

THE QUESTION THAT KEPT RUNNING
THROUGH MY MIND WAS, Where do I start? I’ll
never forget what my wife said to me: “The place to
start is just to start.”
CYAN
When you’re “twenty-something,” you expect
these kinds of things. But when you’re “fortysomething,” you ask yourself, Do I have it in me
to start all over again?
So I began. While I searched for work, I began
writing a blog. The Lord used people’s positive
responses to really encourage me. Before long, I
thought, I can really do this.
One thing led to another and eventually, God led
me right to the perfect new position for me—a
fresh beginning in a new career.
IT’S A TREMENDOUS STRUGGLE TO OVERCOME a fractured ego and resist wallowing in the
loss of a dream. It’s even more difficult to summon the energy—and humility—to start all over
again at square one.
At the time, my circumstances seemed overwhelming. But that “dead end” was the very
thing God used to bring me to a place I’ve always
wanted to go.
I’ll admit it—it was scary in the beginning. But
when I look back, it’s amazing to see how faithfully God led me every step along the way.

asking God to bring him to salvation

Dave assured them he knew what to

In spite of his reaction, he started
thinking about what is really important
in life.
The wonderful news is Dave did give his heart to Christ. The
power of God’s love and grace penetrated his heart, and he
was able to receive that love and be born again!
“Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your life on the cross so I
can confess my sin and be forgiven, cleansed and made whole
through the sacrifice You made. I’m sorry for my sin…please
forgive me. I want to be born again and live for You! I love You,
Lord. Thank You for my salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

When asked if he believed he would
go to Heaven when he died, Dave
responded, “Oh, I don’t think they’d
let someone like me into Heaven. I’ve
done a lot of bad things…I’m not a very
nice person.”
Maybe he felt so condemned by his past that the idea that
God would give him a clean slate based on a simple prayer
seemed too good to be true. Maybe the years of hurt and
unforgiveness seemed too hard to let go.
