PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE
Today, John Krill stepped into my shoes and took over as
Principal for the day. He had a great time greeting students in
the morning, observing in classrooms, helping to plan for next
year, and creating a student survey. He worked closely with
Mr. Schalde and our entire office staff. He even had a parent
visit the office and showed her around the campus. (Okay, it
was my wife…) Later in the day, John gathered a group of
students to have lunch with Dr. Prater, our district
Superintendent and with Rick Robinett, our Assistant
Superintendent. While at lunch, these students had the
opportunity to provide feedback to our district’s leaders and to
ask and answer questions. John did an outstanding job leading
our school for the day!
Meanwhile, I was going to all of John’s classes during. I had a
great time in PE and was impressed at how readily all of the
students accepted me as one of their own. They didn’t even get
mad when I caused our team to get knocked out of first place in
the challenge we were doing! I had to take a few tests (I got A’snot perfect scores, but A’s), had lunch with the kids, did a
presentation in his bilingual US History class, and learned a lot
of great stuff! It was refreshing to see our classrooms from a
kid’s point of view. I have to say their days are packed, but they
go quickly and our teachers make learning a lot of fun! I’m now
looking for ways for all of our teachers to have this experience
as it gives a renewed appreciation for middle school students and
their teachers!
PARENT SURVEY
If you haven’t filled out our parent survey yet, please take the time to do so. The window for the
survey will close on Wednesday, May 20th. If you would like to take it, click here in English and

YEARBOOKS- LAST CHANCE!
It’s getting close to the end of the year and students are running out of time to get the yearbook! We
have a limited number of yearbooks available, and when they are gone, they are gone…so don’t
hesitate. The cost of the yearbook is $45 and they can be ordered online. If you are interested in
ordering one, you can order quickly and easily online by following this link:
http://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1007204/Laguna-Middle-School/ Students and parents
may also pay by check in the school office as an alternative to ordering online.
AROUND SCHOOL
 Thank you to all who came out to open house and made it such a success! It was a great evening of
celebrating all we do here at Laguna. Our teachers and support staff worked hard to make it a
memorable evening and it was great to feel the Laguna Pride all around the school.
 Congratulations to our Band and Jazz band for their performance at the all-schools band concert
on Wednesday night. It was impressive to see the 6th grade, middle school and high school bands
from the San Luis Obispo city schools performing together.
POETRY TEA
Our annual Poetry Tea is taking place this Thursday night from 6-7:30 in the Multipurpose
Room. Everyone is invited to hear outstanding poetry written and recited by our students. We

Laguna Middle School students. Refreshments will be served.
We are still looking for a few volunteers to fill our remaining spots on the signup genius
(providing food) for the poetry tea on Thursday. If you can help, you can sign up here.
