Important Reminders Weather Delays- EACS will determine if a 1, 2, or 3 hour delay is necessary for the safety of our students and staff based on the weather. Please contact our office or your student’s teacher with any updated information as soon as it changes. This is very helpful in the event that we need to contact you during our school day. Newsletters- Classroom teachers and school wide newsletters can be sent electronically! Please make sure we have your current email address if you are interested in receiving your information this way. Daily Transportation Changes- According to our parent-student handbook, any changes to your child’s daily transportation needs to be done by a note to his or her teacher or a call to the school office by noon of that day. This will help alleviate any confusion at the end of the day. Each week, students will learn about a different disability (blind, deaf, physical), and they will participate in special activities to simulate what it might be like to have a disability. Students will take a pledge to treat all people with respect and kindness, and they will have an opportunity to ask questions throughout the month about disabilities! It was great to see our students in such a fun setting! PreK Interest Applications now available in our office! Did you know that NHP offers a Title 1 Pre-School Program for residents in New Haven Primary’s attendance area? You may stop by our school office to fill out an interest application form now through May 1st. Please bring your student’s birth certificate and proof of residence at that time. Spots are limited. Students need to be 4 years of age by August 1, 2015 and will have an assessment before being placed in a classroom. Page 4 eLearning Information Top 10 Things to Know about eLearning Day at NHP 1. NHP teachers will provide their students the plan for their elearning day via email by 9:00 AM the day of closing. 2. Once we return to school students will have 5 school days in which to make up the missing work. 3. Students will be able to come to school one hour before school starts only during the 5 days to make up for the elearning day assignments if necessary. 4. Parents/guardian/adult must escort the student into the building to sign the student in at the office. Doors will be open to students to go to the office to sign in and then report to the computer lab starting at 8:00 am. Students will then report to the computer lab and a teacher will be available in the lab to help students, supervise the lab, and clarify any questions about the assignments. 5. We will not have after school hours for students to use the lab. 6. Staff members will be available to assist students during the open computer lab time. 7. There will be a student sign-in sheet to document the date students attend a day. 8. Teachers will be communicating with parents and students who have not completed the assignments and assist parents in using Compass Odyssey. Parents need to be aware of what their child needs to complete and the date in which it needs to be completed by for their elearning day. 9. All students will be required to complete 20 minutes of Math and 20 minutes of Reading on Compass Odyssey unless otherwise indicated by their classroom teacher. Additional assignments may be given by support teachers. Music, Art and PE activities will be given if the student was scheduled to have the special teacher on the elearning day. Your classroom teacher will indicate via email which special area assignment to complete. 10. Students who do not participate in the the elearning assignments will be marked absent from school for that elearning day. Accessing Compass Odyssey From Home iPad/Tablet: 1. Go to the app store and get the “Puffin Academy” app. (Free) 2. Go to Safari (or any web browser on your iPad) and go to the compass odyssey website provided on the EACS website under the student tab where it says “Compass Odyssey” 3. Once you are on the login page you will copy the web address by long-holding on the web address and then releasing. Once it turns blue tap it and select “copy” 4. Open the Puffin Academy app. 5. At the top right you will see three dots. Tap on the dots 6. Select “Add to Bookmark” 7. Bookmark Name: Compass Odyssey 8. For the url you will paste the web address by tapping the URL space and selecting “Paste”. Tap “Save” To access the Compass Odyssey Site: 1. Go to the Puffin Academy app 2. Tap on the three dots in the top right corner 3. Select “Bookmarks” 4. Choose Compass Odyssey Student will login in with student ID number and first name and begin working Desktop Computer: Compass Odyssey works best in the Google Chrome Browser but will also work in the Firefox or Safari web browser. 1. Go to EACS website under the “Student” tab and select “Compass Odyssey”. Follow the link to login. 2. You can download the Google Chrome Browser by going to www.google.com and searching “Google Chrome”. Choose to install the browser and follow the steps. Google Chrome typically downloads very quickly. Don’t have internet at home and can’t make it in early to school? Allen County Public Libraries are an option, too!
