ANZAC Commemoration
What a proud moment for our entire community our ANZAC
commemoration was, last Friday students, teachers, parents and
other members of our community came to pay respects to our
ANZACS in a ceremony that was held on the hard-court area.
Special guests included, our local member for Sydenham, the
Hon Natalie Hutchins, Lance Corporal Brendan Perrotett and Private Justin Woolley. On behalf of the entire Mackellar community
I would like to thank all those who attended and especially the
organisers of this amazing event. A special congratulations to
our 5/6 student speakers Emily, Dylan, Mathieson, Alayna,
Jenifer and Sharnarli who did an amazing job. The beautiful
wreaths that the students made where placed on the memorial in
Keilor for the dawn service.

Walkathon
On Wednesday we held our annual walkathon, it was fantastic to
see our enthusiastic staff and students walking around our
neighbourhood in an effort to raise funds for the school. Thank
you to all who took part and to the organisers of the event.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy
(NAPLAN) 2015 for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be held on
Tuesday 12 May, Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May
2015. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in
Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and
punctuation) and Numeracy.

Gr 3-6 ATHLETICS DAY
MOONEE VALLEY ATHLETICS TRACK

THURSDAY May 7, 2015
As this will be a whole day curriculum event children will
need to bring their snack, lunch and ample drinks to get
them through the day. The Canteen at the Moonee Valley Track will be open for small purchases only.
Sunsmart hats and sunscreen are essential, as is the
wearing of the school’s Sport House colours.
Children must wear runners and clothing suitable to
allow them to compete. Shorts and t-shirts for boys and
shorts / bike pants and t-shirts for girls. The bus will
leave Mackellar shortly after 9.00am and will return by
3.30pm. It is therefore essential that children arrive at
school on time. The cost for the day will be $12.00,
which includes the bus and hire of the track. Parental
assistance is required on the day to assist teachers with
the pre-event marshalling, recording and finish line marshalling of students.
Please fill in and return the permission forms, together
with $12.00 by Friday 1st May.
Gr 1/2 Animal Land Excursion
Monday May 11, 2015
The cost of the excursion is $27.00.
All payments are due Monday May 4, 2015.
Money will not be accepted after this
date.
Students are required to wear full school uniform. Students need to bring their snack, lunch
and drink in their school bags.
Grade 3/4 CITY CAMP
Melbourne Discovery
Wednesday August 26 to Friday August 28
Our Grade 3/4 students have an opportunity to
attend a 3 day camp in the city of Melbourne in
Term 3.
This year’s camp will cost $290.00 for the 3 day
experience
Payment will not be accepted
past this date.
Final payment is due no later than
Friday August 7
Grades 5/6 YMCA Camp,
Anglesea.
The 3/4 Camp is NOW FULL
Wednesday July 22 to Friday July 24
This year’s camp will cost $240 for the 3-day
experience. The cost includes accommodation,
activities, camp instructors and bus travel. As
prices in petrol, food, wages, have risen, so
have the cost of camps and buses.
A non-refundable deposit of $50 is payable
by Friday May 8, 2015 to secure your child a
place on the camp as there are limited places
available. (Once places are filled a waiting list
will be established.) A payment plan will commence there after so that the financial demands will not be too taxing for families.
Final payment is due no later
than Monday June 22
Prep Enrolment for the Year
2016
Enrolments are now being taken for Preps in 2016. Your
child is eligible to commence schooling in 2016 if they
turn five years of age on or before April 30, 2016.
When enrolling your child you will need to present
official evidence of the child’s date of birth. This evidence can be in the form of a birth certificate or
passport. An official immunisation statement issued by the Immunisation Register (Phone 1800 653
809) and must be presented before your child can enter
school in 2016.
Enrolments can be carried out at anytime between 8:30
AM and 4:00 PM Monday to Friday. To cater for our
planning for 2016 please ensure the school receives
your enrolment soon.
Participation in the school’s Kinder to Prep Transition program requires your child to be enrolled for
2016 by August 2015.
