Letter from the editor
Here comes May again for another year, show season!!!!
Show season to me was floats and trucks, squeezed in like sardines, camping on the
cool nights, ‘side show alley’ music pumping in the background. Midnight checks on
water buckets and hay nets, rows and rows of sleeping ponies in beautiful matching
show sets.
Then would come the day time, me- hanging onto canes and whips, water bottles and
bags, and of course the odd led horse whose owner was rushing through another
class with another horse. Pockets full of class tickets with god knows who’s name on
them, and of course the occasional step into steward position when (as we all know
too well) the show was short staffed.
Lunch was of dagwood dogs and fairy floss, arms full of show bags, and something
else that was far too expensive. And in the rare spare few minutes I could chase, I’d
check out the racing pigs, wood chopping, poultry pavilion, craft, produce, and the
main event- stunt cars or Guy Mclean.
Then after doing that 2 whole days in a row, crawl home to bed and sleep for about
20 hours straight, and wonder why I did it, since I didn’t even have my own horse
there! And yet here I am, re talking myself into it for another year!!

Dressage Training day
In the words of our dressage co-ordinator Leah- “It was an extreme weather event!” It was a very
hot and humid day, but then there was a heavy down-pour which was unfortunate for Jenny Birch,
Carissa Koeppen and Anna Szyszska who were riding at that time, however their horses behaved
well considering how heavy the rain was!
Many Thanks to the Judge Jan Dahl who found time to provide some constructive advice to
everyone after their tests.
Thanks also to everyone who helped in running the day - pencillers, scorers, those who erected
and dismantled the arena, and of course the organising committee.

T-shirt Hack Day 31st May
As I have been a little late with the Newsletter this month, anyone NOT on facebook and not a
regular to the website, may not have seen the program for the hack day on Sunday 31st May. The
program is out along with a nomination form, early nominations get a $5 discount. Email them to
me at moo_clock@hotmail.com .
As we all have noticed, Hacking is becoming a little scarce in our club, so come along and show
your support for it, otherwise soon it may no longer exist here. It will be a fun, casual day, with
great prizes to be won.
Fraser Coast All Breeds Show
Sadly this year, due to no Hack co-ordinators, the Fraser Coast All Breeds show will not be
running. The All Breeds Show (1-2 August) has been cancelled as we have not anyone able to
organise such a big event (hopefully it will return again next year). However 2 events have been
organised in its place. Why not come to both and make a weekend of it?
 Saturday 1st August - Dressage Practice Rally in the Covered Arena. This is a rally rather than a
competition, but it will be an ideal opportunity for those who are doing freestyles at the Fraser
Coast Dressage Championships to practice their routines with music in a simulated competition
situation – and it also is a great opportunity for anyone (from Prep to Advanced) to practice tests
with feedback from experienced MARC members. The program and booking form will appear on
the MARC web-site soon.
 Sunday 2nd August – Charity Hack / Hunter Show in the Covered Arena. This Show will be raising
money for the Fraser Coast Cancer Care Team and Cancer Council Queensland, and
consequently will have a YELLOW theme. The program will be on the MARC website next month,
but everyone can start thinking about your outfits! If anyone would like to donate money or goods
for prizes, please contact Pam Thurlow 0427 122 965 or cullow5451@telstra.com . Some of you
will remember the fabulous Pink themed show we held in July 2013 with proceeds going to the
National Breast Cancer Foundation – everyone really got in the spirit and it was a really fun day
which successfully raised more than $600.00 – so spread the word and let‟s hope that we have a
great turn up for another fabulous day with funds going to two very worthy organisations – more
information to follow next month.

Other Horsey Bits!!
EA Special General Meeting Outcome
Equestrian Australia held a Special General Meeting on 19/04/15, to consider a motion moved by ENSW to
effectively ‘cease all action in relation to the introduction of any mandatory Hendra vaccination’.
EQ has been consistent in representing its membership interests on mandatory Hendra vaccination and
subsequently seconded the motion.
While the motion had a split vote and did not receive the majority support from all the states branches
required to be carried, it was the first time the two Hendra incident states unified on a motion regarding
mandatory Hendra vaccination and all states unanimously agreed that revoking the bylaw was a good
decision. ( Taken from Equestrian Queensland E-News)
Although the bylaw has been revoked, it is still important for us to consider the vaccination
for our horses, especially in the Fraser Coast area. With the high volume of Flying foxes in
our area, and many of us with no sufficient shelter for main water sources and grazing
pastures, it is still important to consider the Hendra vaccination for our horses.
MARC Photography Competition This has appeared to be popular so it will continue in 2015.


Photographs must have been taken by current MARC members.
Photographs must have an EQUINE Theme, and judged in 3 Categories:1. Humorous
2. Action
3. Classic / Artistic (+ Overall Best )
 Entries should be labelled with their Category, a “Title”, and photographer’s name.
 Photographs to be submitted by email throughout the year until end of November.
 Entries will be judged anonymously and prizes given at the End of the Year Awards.
 Free entry!
So many people take photos with their cameras and phones, and yet don’t send them in!
Share the fun and send in your entries! Just email them to me at moo_clock@hotmail.com

Meet our Memfurrs
Name: Digger
Owners name: Lynne Larkin
Age: 19yo
Breed: Clydie x
Height: 17hh
Occupation/ Hobbies: Have been there done that! Jumping,
Sporting days, Parades, one on my greatest life
achievements is following the Olympic torch in 2000. I‟ve
done the Kilkivan Great Horse ride 9 times, competed
dressage to medium level, and I enjoy the odd beach ride for
a relax. I have been known to perform the odd pony ride for
children, and throw in a few party tricks with the dogs.
Favourite food: Just about anything edible. I have been
witnessed munching on mum‟s palm leaves, lantana, having
a swig of beer, love muesli bars, and of course anything
labelled „suitable for horses‟.
Likes: Food of course!! Any type of attention, a good scratch on the withers, long walks on the
beach and paddling in the ocean. I also don‟t mind playing with my brothers the border collies.
Dislikes: Kangaroos, being clipped and men with oily hands. I hate bot flies!! I try and get away
but I just can‟t seem to lose them. I hate injections, I also really don‟t like being squished into the
float with another horse, I am far too big for that sort of business. I also don‟t like having arthritis in
my legs, that‟s hard to live with.
Favourite thing about your owner: Even though I‟m getting old, my mum still takes me out for a
ride about 3 times a week, nice casual affairs, you know, bareback and all. She still feeds me
good, and as long as dinner is on time at 4:30-5:00pm, I am totally fine. Mind you if she is late or
forgets, I always let her know with my manly high pitched whinny.
Don‟t forget, if you want everyone to get to know your pride and joy, email
me your horses answers to the questions above and I will put them in an
issue.
