GENERAL INFORMATION
Welcome to the 2015 Music Northwest Chamber Music
Camp! Those of you who have attended in past years
know how much fun we have at our Camp and the high
level of music making that develops over just a few days
of rehearsals and coaching. If you are new to our Camp,
we’d love to have you join us. Come with a group, or on
your own and we will match you up!
Music Northwest invites music students to spend five days in
intensive chamber music rehearsals and classes with outstanding Northwest coaches.
This camp is suitable for ages 7–21. No previous chamber
music experience necessary. A minimum of 3 years experience
on an instrument is required for our Regular level; 2 years for
our Prep level. (strings, woodwinds, french horn, piano)
PROGRAM FEATURES
• Coached rehearsals with professional coaches who specialize
in chamber music
• Master classes in performance techniques and musical styles
• Dalcroze eurhythmics classes
• Students will be placed in groups appropriate to their level
• Already formed groups welcome
• Pizza party!

REGISTRATION
EMILY COLE has been a member of the Oregon Symphony since 2011. She
has performed with the Dallas and Seattle Symphonies and the Grant Park
Festival Orchestra. Emily received her B.M. at the University of Texas at
Austin and her M.M. at the University of North Texas. She is on the faculty
of Lewis & Clark College. She is a graduate of the Garfield High School
Orchestra and the Seattle Youth Symphony.
LEONID KEYLIN is a member of the Seattle Symphony. He studied at the
Special Music School for Gifted Children of the St. Petersburg Conservatory,
Russia. After immigrating to the United States in 1979, Mr. Keylin graduated
from the Juilliard School, where he was a scholarship student of Dorothy
DeLay. As a member of numerous New York-based ensembles—acting
often as the concert master—he has toured throughout Europe, South
America, Israel, and the Far East.
MOLLY PORTERFIELD has been studying Eurhythmics since the late 80’s
when she was introduced to the Dalcroze world at Longy School of Music.
Having already completed a BA in Music Theory and Composition (Lewis &
Clark College), a Diploma in Jazz Piano Performance (Berklee College), she
continued Dalcroze studies at the Lucy Moses School and Juilliard Evening
Division, as well as at numerous summer sessions and national conferences.
Molly holds a MAT in early childhood education and presently teaches music
in the Portland Public Schools as well as theory classes for Portland Youth
Philharmonic and Metropolitan Youth Symphony.

MERRIE SIEGEL has been a member of the faculties of the University of
Idaho, Houston Community College, and several universities in México. She
received her Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, and her
Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Shepherd
School of Music at Rice University. Her diverse summer festival experience
includes Tanglewood, Eastern Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and the
Cactus Pear Music Festival. A new resident of Seattle, Merrie plays Principal
Flute with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra.

MARCUS TSUTAKAWA, conductor, has been an instrumental music teacher
in the Seattle Public Schools since 1979 and the director of the prizewinning Garfield Orchestra since 1985. He and the orchestra have performed
regularly at Meany Hall. He is also the conductor of the Seattle Youth
Symphony’s Junior Symphony Orchestra, a select group of 100 young musicians.
Since 2000, he has led the Garfield Orchestra on four tours of Japan.

JANE HARTY, pianist, is the Artistic Director of Music Northwest. As Director
of the highly acclaimed Music Northwest Concert Series, her work has
received numerous grants and awards for innovative programming. She
holds a D.M.A. degree from the University of Southern California.
MARA FINKELSTEIN studied cello at the Gnessin College of Music and the
Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Russia. She moved to the United States
in 1989. An active freelance musician, she has performed with the Seattle
Symphony, Seattle Opera, Cornish Chamber Series, Northwest Sinfonietta
Chamber Orchestra, Federal Way Philharmonic Orchestra, Fear No Music
20th Century Ensemble and Seattle International Music Festival. She is very
dedicated to a large class of private students.
