Cottrell giving sermon 9:15 AM & 12 Noon Fellowship Hour in Vestry 9:30 AM Sunday School for all ages CHURCH The Spring Business Meeting of the North Scituate Baptist Church will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 12:10 PM Dear Members & Friends April 6, 2015 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, that one is a new creation; the old is has gone, the new has come! All of this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:” II Cor. 5: 17-18 It is the day after Easter, the family is gone and clean-up is just about done. The flowers are still alive but we have lots of ham left over, the candy – oh, why did I buy so much, especially when I don’t need it – left over deviled eggs. There must be a reason we call them ‘deviled’. I wonder this morning; “Am I any different because of Easter? Are you any different because of Easter?” Well, maybe not because of yesterday, since I have been a follower of Christ’s for many years. But for some, yesterday may have been the day the Holy Spirit touched your heart, when you heard the Risen Lord call your name, when you realized the love Christ talks about and brings to Earth is really for YOU. These are the things I realized many years ago. So whether 60 – 80 years or 24 hours, I am different because of Easter and you are or can be too. At Christmas we read the nativity stories in the gospels according to Matthew and Luke and then we hear from John just why Christmas happened; John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Because of God’s love for us and God’s desire to be in relationship with us, he sent His son. Christmas was ALL God’s initiative, love, desire and plan. So Jesus was born, he grew up and then he taught, he healed, he preached and he proclaimed love, forgiveness and salvation. Even with all of this, we rejected God’s Son. The rejection led to Good Friday but evil cannot defeat God. From the injustice, cruelty and hatred of the cross, God brought divine grace, love and salvation into the world. The defeat was that of death and sin and the Victory was God’s. Victory over death and a way (The Way) to redemption, forgiveness, salvation and eternal life was opened to all who believed in the Son. Jesus, the crucified and Risen Christ, is THE WAY to a relationship with God and to God’s perfect presence. All of this plan was completed that first Easter morning. The hate of Good Friday was changed to the Unconditional Love of Easter. Because of God’s love for each of us, we have the opportunity to experience ‘new birth’ and become new creations through the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. So am I different because of yesterday? Yes, because Easter Sunday reminds me of God’s great love, the price Christ paid for my soul, and the hope and newness I have for each day of my life. Easter is so much more than ham and flowers, deviled eggs and candy – Easter is new life in Christ offered every day of our lives and the gift of eternal life with Christ. May we in our ‘newness’ and grace continue “Sharing the Love and Light of Christ” With Great love, Dr. Reppa MAY BREAKFAST IS COMING ON MAY 2, 2015 From 7 – 11 a.m. In order to help with the expenses of this breakfast, we are asking If you are able to make a donation of the following: Please check your donation. BLESSED GRANT from the CHAMPLIN FOUNDATION The front doors have been installed. Hallelujah! The doors to the sanctuary ($11,300) were paid for by a grant from the Champlin Foundation. Or requesting guidance in the use of the Heath money and using it in Memory of Norma and Robert Heath. Suggestions???
