Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Community – Week of April 12 Sunday of Divine Mercy 2 Phone-a-thon is next! We are pleased to report that our capital campaign has reached $3.2 million in pledges and gifts toward our goal of $4.5 million! At this point in the campaign, we are mobilizing a team of enthusiastic volunteers for a PHONE-A-THON in outreach to the parish beginning this week. Join us April 14, 15 and 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. for training and calling. All you need is a cell phone with charger and a positive attitude. Your talking script, call list, food and prizes will be provided for an evening of fun with OLA supporters. We will be calling all parishioners to remind them of the campaign, answer questions they may have, and ensure they received the campaign brochure. Volunteers will not be asking for money. Other calling dates are April 21-23, April 28-30, May 5-7. and May 12-14. To help, contact Campaign Director Catherine Volini at CVolini@ccsfundraising.com or (630) 461-4720. In the meantime, you are invited to learn more about our plans and how to give on the parish website at www.olaclaremont.org. Please prayerfully consider your contribution to our capital campaign and make a multi-year pledge. Pledges payable over a fiveyear period allow donors to make a more substantial commitment than is possible with one-time cash gifts. Thank you. Capital Campaign GOAL $4.5 million TOTAL PLEDGES AND GIFTS $3.2 million NO. OF DONORS 155 AVERAGE PLEDGE $20,596 CASH RECEIVED $469,049 This is Divine Mercy Sunday The Divine Mercy devotion, which began spreading throughout the world in the 1930’s, stems from a poor Polish nun, Sr. Maria Faustina, (1905-1938) from Kraków. Sister Faustina was considered to have been a mystic who recorded visions of Jesus in her diary which has since been widely published. Saint John Paul II, then Archbishop of Krakow, steered the devotion to Rome for approval in 1978, becoming Pope a few months later. The first Sunday after Easter in the year 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized Faustina as the first saint of the new millennium and declared that each Sunday following Easter, henceforth, be celebrated as Divine Mercy Sunday. As he dedicated the Shrine of Divine Mercy, Pope John Paul said, “Apart from the mercy of God there is no other source of hope for mankind.” The message is nothing new, but is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through Scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving and that we, too, must show mercy and forgiveness. But in the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s love is unlimited and available to everyone – especially the greatest sinners. 3 Our Lady of the Assumption Church – Directory on Page 10 Liturgical events Confirmation Day, April 11, was the occasion for 108 teens and adults to receive the seal of the Holy Spirit sacramentally.
