Mesaj ki soti nan biwo Kire-a
Dear Parishioners,
We enter the holiest week of the year—Holy
Week—as we celebrate the saving events of our
salvation. It is good, then, to decide now that this is
indeed going to be a holy week, a different week, a
week when we meet Christ in His passion, in order
that when the resurrection is celebrated, we can, after
Easter Sunday, follow Him more closely and witness
to Him—Christ who suffered, died and rose from the
dead. Please keep the schedule of services in this
bulletin as your reference. Invite friends and family
members to join you in the moving liturgical services
that mark this extraordinary week!
Please remember that the usual 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.
Saturday evening Masses are not permitted next
Saturday (April 4). Join us for the Solemn Easter Vigil
to be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Anthony.
With affection,
Msgr. Gervasio

Grateful for Your
Prayerful, Sacrificial Gift
Along with that of Christmas, the
Easter collection is one of the most
important of the year. It helps us meet
our many obligations—to our church
and school employees, keeping our
facilities in good shape, utilities, and snow removal
(the latter being, once again this year, very costly).
We receive many appeals through the year and I trust
that in your goodness you will not forget our parish
community. Prayerfully consider a generous gift to the
parish as we celebrate the “solemnity of solemnities”
at Easter!
Msgr. Gervasio
We would like to expand membership of our parish
School Board. A Catholic school board in the Diocese
of Trenton is an advisory body of delegated
responsibility. It seeks to:
 Develop a school’s long range strategic plan
 Establish annual goals and objectives
 Establish realistic enrollment goals
 Adopt and monitor the annual budget
 Review policies and procedures
 Address facility needs
 Promote marketing and public relations
A member would commit to a monthly meeting. A
member should:
 Be a practicing Catholic
 Possess a genuine interest in Catholic
education
 Be a team player
 Be committed to the mission of the parish and
school
Please give prayerful consideration to this invitation. If
you feel the Lord is asking you to serve in this
capacity,
please
contact
Msgr.
Gervasio.

Rosary Altar News
By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of
the priests, the whole Church commends those who
are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may
raise them up and save them.” (CCC 1499)
Corporate Sunday - April 12 - All parishioners are
invited to join us at St. Anthony at 9:30 a.m. when we
recite the rosary for world peace, an end to terrorism,
an end to abortion, for the Pope, the personal
intentions of all those present and for the intentions of
all Rosarians throughout the world. We then attend
the 10:00 a.m. Mass as a group.
Monthly Meeting - Monday, April 13 - Our meeting
will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Meeting Room.
Our guest speaker for the evening will be Kevin
Dohrenwend. Refreshments will be provided by Dee
Ali and her committee.
Who may receive this sacrament?
 Those awaiting a surgery of a serious nature.
 The elderly who are notably weakened, even if not
seriously ill.
 Sick children may be strengthened through this
anointing.
Our parish invites all those Catholics who may be ill to
this sacred encounter that they might know that
Christ, who often visited and healed the sick, loves
them in their illness.

Religious Education Registration
It is time to register your children for Religious
Education classes for the 2015-2016 school year.
Please remember that certain sessions fill up quickly
so early registration is highly recommended. We can
more easily accommodate your preference if you
register promptly. We have a special offer for the
early registration. Please check the letter that we
mailed with the registration forms. If you haven't
received it yet, please call us.
For your convenience, all registration forms also are
available on the OLS-SA website (www.ols-sa.org).
You may print the registration form and mail or bring it
to the Religious Education Office. If you have a Pre-K
or Kindergarten student entering Religious Education
classes, please print the registration form from the
website or call our office to register your child.
The halls are alive with the sound of music! Yes,
we are preparing for a celebration. Your parish school
is planning the induction of a very special group of
children. Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School has
been approved for a chapter of the National Junior
Honor Society. This worldwide organization consists
of chapters in secondary schools in all 50 states, the
District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S.
Territories, and Canada. Cahpters can be found in
areas of Asia as well as in International and American
schools around the globe. They represent the most
outstanding students in a number of areas.
Specifically, careful selection and nomination is based
upon four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service,
and character. These students were invited to apply
for membership based upon their demonstration of
these exemplary traits. The National Honor Society
was founded in 1921, and we are proud that Our Lady
of Sorrows School was approved to be part of this
worldwide organization. We are planning for our very
first induction ceremony and it promises to be most
special!
The Our Lady of Sorrows School chapter is
moderated by our middle school faculty member,
and OLS graduate, Melissa Stuono. Our induction
ceremony is scheduled for April 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Our
Lady of Sorrows Church. Monsignor Gervasio will be
offering the blessings and congratulations to our
middle school students who have reached this
milestone. We thank our staff and faculty members
who have given so generously of their time to guide
and support our students. I join the Our Lady of
Sorrows School and parish community in
congratulating the following students:
Sunday and Summer Developments
Sunday sessions are now available for students in
Grades 7 and 8.
A Summer Program is now offered as an alternative
to regular year-round classes! See below for details.
Attention all Parents whose children are attending
Trenton Catholic Academy. If your child is in 2nd
grade or 7th grade, please make sure that you register
your child for sacramental preparation.

Introducing….
Summer Religious Education
The Summer Program is offered to our parishioners
as an alternative to the traditional once a week class
format that is held from September through May. It
will be held:
Monday –Friday
July 20-24 & July 27-31
9:00 a.m. -Noon
6th Grade
Hannah Burek, Christopher Genicola, Patrick Kerins,
Regina Marion, Olivia Okupski, Jakob Papiez, and
Megan Walsh
7th Grade
Shannon Boytis, Nina Burden, Grace Goepfert,
Joseph Hoffman, Louis Pasculli, Gavin Schaeffer, and
Gabriel Truch
8th Grade
Sam Crawford, Kristy Hryniszak, Joshua Kaduthodil,
Megan Reger, Madison Roberts, and Lauren Wright
The Summer Program seeks to accommodate the
busy schedules of our families by eliminating the
weekly “shuttling” of children to the parish campus
from September through May. Class time is the same
as the regular program but condensed into a twoweek period. his “intensive” plan provides for a more
focused approach and retention of the subject matter.
Students will stay “connected” to the parish
throughout the year through weekly Mass and by
attending 3 catechetical sessions during the Advent,
Lent, & Easter Seasons. Parental involvement is
expected.
It is open to students of Grades 3 -6.
Parishioners, we invite you to be a part of our
ceremony as we mark the very first student induction
to the Our Lady of Sorrows School Chapter of the
National Junior Honor Society. We hope to see you
at 6:30 on Wednesday, April 29, at Our Lady of
Sorrows Church. Be sure to keep us in your prayers.
Consider Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School for
your family. You'll be glad that you did!
For information & registration forms, please call
Mrs. Francis at 587-4372.

Chapter 5: Creating the Future
Sexual intimacy between a man and a woman raises
the possibility of children. There are many other
honorable relationships which include degrees of
commitment and affection, but marriage has a unique
mission: to integrate the fertility of male and female
with the fidelity of God’s covenant. Catholic parenting
relies on the same rationale as sacramental marriage:
love in the shape of service, sacrifice, trust, and
openness to God’s will. If and when a marriage is
blessed with children, love orients parents to their
children’s education and spiritual formation. Jesus
said to his disciples “Let the children come unto me,”
and it is the responsibility of all Catholic adults to
shepherd children into a relationship with God and the
people of God. The whole parish should be involved
in supporting marriages, families and children. We
build the future of our society child by child, family by
family. Vatican II called the family a “domestic
church,” and the little church of the family takes its
orientation from the faith and mission of the larger
Church. It is a mother’s and a father’s responsibility to
be with children at home and in church, and to pray
together regularly. Children will learn the faith only
when they are taught. The way a family responds to
adversity, or gathers for meals, or makes financial
decisions and sets priorities - these and many other
aspects of “home economics” shape the values and
identities of our children. “Love is our mission”
because even in the middle of our humble daily
routines, Catholics live with a bold and glorious
purpose.

Requiescat in Pace
The Annual Catholic Appeal in Action
David Bird, a former parishioner and graduate of Our
Lady of Sorrows School and Notre Dame High
School, left his home in northern New Jersey for a
walk on January 11, 2014. He never returned. Despite
searches by hundreds of police and citizens, it was
not until March 18 of this year that his body was found
in the Passaic River near his home.
A graduate of Rider, he was an energy journalist and
deputy managing editor of the Dow Jones Energy
Service. Predeceased by his parents, Walter & Anna,
and brothers Wally & Joseph, he is survived by his
wife, Nancy Fleming Bird, their children, Alexander
and Natasha, his sisters, Maryann and Kathleen, his
brother, Dennis, and many relatives and in-laws.
Please remember David and his family in your
prayers.
God calls each person to a life of holiness and service,
whether single, married, ordained, or consecrated.
The Diocesan Ministry of Vocations provides
discernment opportunities, encouragement, support,
education, and resources for those responding to
God's call through the ministerial priesthood.
The ministry is committed to fostering an environment
where priestly vocations are valued and nurtured within
the domestic church of the family and the local parish
community. The priest is a servant of the Lord, giving
his life to worship, prayer, and commitment to God's
people. Your gift helps to amplify the call to serve.
Again, our parish goal is $110,000. If you have not yet
responded, you can participate by dropping your gift
in our regular collection, making your check payable
to, and marking the envelope, “Annual Catholic
Appeal.” We'll gladly forward your gift to the diocese.
Our Lenten Labor of Love
OLS PTA Seeking Donations
We all miss Fr. Eugene Savarimuthu who, after
serving our parish with so much love and enthusiasm
for 6 years, returned to his native India to become the
pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Tamil Nadu. This
year’s Lenten campaign is focused on helping Fr.
Gene and his parishioners.
Sikkalnayaganpet parish is a remote village in
southern India. There are five mission churches,
which are 6 to 10 miles away from the main church.
Fr. Gene is the only priest and offers Mass regularly
at all the churches. The faith of the people is simple
but very strong. There are around 150 Catholic
families in the parish. There are also about 300
Muslim families and almost 1,000 Hindu families. Fr.
Gene says conversion to Catholicism is continuing.
Our goal is to help Fr. Gene raise the money
needed to build a community center to house the
programs he started to help his people.
The people of Fr. Gene’s parish are among the poorest
of the poor. He has begun several catechetical,
educational, and wellness programs to help all the
people—Catholics, Muslims and Hindus alike—and the
community center he is building will be where all the
programs take place. Right now, these programs have
to be conducted either in the church or outdoors, which
is not possible during the rainy season.
Give up anything you want for Lent—candy, “fast
food”, ice cream, cookies. Each week, calculate how
much money you saved and bring it to church to put
in one of the Lenten Labor of Love cans at the exits.
Pray! Pray for Fr Gene and the people of his parish,
and pray that our own hearts will be transformed
through our sacrifices.
Save the date! The OLS PTA’s 5th Annual Knight to
Remember is scheduled for Friday, October 9!
This is a tricky tray style event and through the
generous donations of our school families,
parishioners, and the community at large, we were
able to assemble more than 230 gift baskets to raffle
off last year. All proceeds from this event benefit the
students of Our Lady of Sorrows School.
We are in need of your help once again! Have you
come across items in your closet that you purchased
for gifts but never gave out? Did you get a gift that
you wanted to exchange but never got back to the
store? Why not donate it to our event? We are looking
for new and unused items as well as baskets or
containers (i.e., hat boxes, photo boxes, totes, etc.) to
help create these wonderful gift baskets once again.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the event we
cannot accept clothing or “gently used” items.
Donations can be dropped off at school’s main office
between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Simply label the
donation “KTR.” Please do not drop off donations at
the Parish Office. If you have a question or would like
further information, please contact Liz Landi (6318033 or elandicsr@msn.com).

dinner at the Stone Terrace. Congratulations, St.

HOLY WEEK
Palm Sunday
Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Mark 11:9
We begin the holiest week of the year with a triumphant shout of praise to Jesus, the son
of David. But on this day we also recall in the gospel reading Jesus’ suffering and death on
a cross. Thus, the two names by which this first day of holy week is known are Palm
Sunday and Passion Sunday.
The Sacred Triduum
The Triduum is the Church’s three-day celebration of the death and resurrection of
Christ that encompasses Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. Triduum means
“three days.” The Triduum commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of
Jesus Christ. Because Jesus was willing to die for our sins and was resurrected,
death is no longer the end of life for us. It is the beginning of new life.
Holy Thursday
“Do this in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24
The Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. It commemorates the
institution of the Eucharist and the Priesthood, as well as Jesus’ command of love and
service. The Sacred Scripture we hear this night retells the story of the first Passover
meal as the Israelites prepared for their journey out of slavery in Egypt. So, too, Jesus
prepared us for our journey out of the slavery of sin as he ate his final meal with His
disciples. This night we also recall in the Gospel that Jesus, although Master and Lord, came to serve and not to be
served. This commandment to love and service He expressed through the washing of the apostles’ feet. This is
recalled during the Mass in a rite called the Mandatum (command). In a special way, this night celebrates the
institution of the Priesthood. Jesus gave the gift of the Priesthood to his Church on the night before he died, when
He commanded the apostles, “Do this in remembrance of me.” We end this night by keeping watch with Jesus, still
present with us in the gift of the Blessed Sacrament. Night prayer will conclude this period of adoration at 10:45 p.m.
Good Friday
"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit" Luke 23:46
Good Friday is a celebration of the passion, the suffering, and death of Jesus.
Because this event won salvation for sinners, the day is called “Good”, and the
liturgy reflects on love as much as on loss. We are reminded of the full weight of
our sin, even as we are lifted up by the incomparable measure of God’s love.
Mass is not celebrated this day, but the Church’s liturgy consists in a celebration
of the Word, veneration of the cross, and the reception of communion.
Easter Vigil
The Triduum reaches its climax at the Easter Vigil. If there is one Mass in which
Catholics should make every effort to participate every year, it is the Easter Vigil. It is
the most important celebration of the year. The Easter Vigil has four parts. It begins
with a service of light. The community gathers in darkness to hear that Christ is our light, shattering the darkness of
sin. The Paschal Candle is lit from the blessed fire and carried into the darkened church, as the Deacon proclaims,
“Christ, our light.” We respond, ‘Thanks be to God.” The second part of the Vigil is the Liturgy of the Word, which
provides an overview of salvation history. The liturgy of baptism follows. This year, seven catechumens will be
baptized, three candidates will come into full communion in the Church, and five, one of whom will receive first
communion as well, will be confirmed. The entire assembly renews its baptismal promises. Together we will pledge
our faith in the resurrection and promise to follow Christ more closely. The Vigil’s final part is the Liturgy of the
Eucharist, during which the new Catholics will join us in the Eucharist for the very first time.
"Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.” Mark 16:6
