From the Pastor’s Desk
Mesaj ki soti nan biwo Kire-a
Dear Parishioners:
Today we salute mothers and offer to the Lord our
prayers of thanksgiving for all they do to live out their
great vocation. Mothers can be sure fonts of wisdom,
though our appreciation of their sage counsel
deepens with the passing of years. How often I hear
young mothers say, “Now, I’m beginning to sound just
like my mother!” There is something inherently good
about that! While mothers tell us many things, here
are nine things a Mom would never say:
• "How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far
back?"
• "Yeah, I used to skip school a lot, too."
• "Just leave all the lights on ... it makes the house
look more cheery."
• ‘"Let me smell that shirt—Yeah, it's good for
another week."
• "Go ahead and keep that stray dog, honey. I'll be
glad to feed and walk him every day."
• "Well, if Harry's mom says it's OK, that's good
enough for me."
• "The curfew is just a general time to shoot for. It's
not like I'm running a prison around here."
• "I don't have a tissue with me ... just use your
sleeve."
• "Don't bother wearing a jacket - the wind-chill is
bound to improve."
No, a mother, aware of the greatness of her
vocation, praises, encourages, reproves with great
love. We should never fail to offer our mother
expressions of our gratitude and love. Today our
across our country we say, “Thanks, Mom!” Today
across our country we offer our prayers that the Lord
will continually bless every mom who says “yes” to
her vocation each day and will bring those who have
gone before us, to a glorious place in heaven!
With affection,
Msgr. Gervasio

Welcome!
The Summer Program seeks to accommodate the
busy schedules of our families by eliminating the
weekly “shuttling” of children to the parish campus
from September through May. Class time is the same
as the regular program but condensed into a twoweek period. his “intensive” plan provides for a more
focused approach and retention of the subject matter.
Students will stay “connected” to the parish
throughout the year through weekly Mass and by
attending 3 catechetical sessions during the Advent,
Lent, & Easter Seasons. Parental involvement is
expected. It is open to students of Grades 3 -6.
For information & registration forms, please call
Mrs. Francis at 587-4372.
A warm welcome is extended to the following new
parishioners and their families:

OLS PTA Seeking Donations
Save the date! The OLS PTA’s 5th Annual Knight to
Remember is scheduled for Friday, October 9!
This is a tricky tray style event and through the
generous donations of our school families,
parishioners, and the community at large, we were
able to assemble
more than 230 gift
baskets to raffle off
last
year.
All
proceeds from this
event benefit the
students of Our Lady
of Sorrows School.
We are in need of your help once again! Have you
come across items in your closet that you purchased
for gifts but never gave out? Did you get a gift that
you wanted to exchange but never got back to the
store? Why not donate it to our event? We are looking
for new and unused items as well as baskets or
containers (i.e., hat boxes, photo boxes, totes, etc.) to
help create these wonderful gift baskets once again.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the event we
cannot accept clothing or “gently used” items.
Donations can be dropped off at school’s main office
between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Simply label the
donation “KTR.” Please do not drop off donations at
the Parish Office. If you have a question or would like
further information, please contact Liz Landi (6318033 or elandicsr@msn.com).

Keeping Up Our Appearance
A Paschal Candle to be used at Our Lady of Sorrows
Church was donated by Marie Borrelli, Carol
Carabelli, Kay Chiarello, Clara Gioe, Ginny LaMorte,
Joan J. Mainzer, and Eleanor Murdza.
Very often parishioners and visitors, with the best of
intentions, bring to church outdated religious
magazines, broken rosaries and statues, old “holy
cards,” and a plethora of various mailings they receive
from mission organizations. They place them at the
church doors. These only serve to clutter the church
and make additional work for our maintenance team
who must dispose of them. Kindly, refrain from
bringing such items to church. Bulk mailings from
missions may be discarded in the usual way. Broken
religious items, if not blessed, may also be discarded
in the usual way. However, one should bury or burn
blessed items. This can be done at home and the
items need not be brought to church.

Take a Chance for Charity
AROUND THE DIOCESE
Mount Carmel Guild’s Third Annual 50/50 Raffle is now
taking place! The ticket price remains the same at $25
with the lucky winner to receive half of all sales. Last
year, the winner received close to $10,000! The drawing
will be held on Tuesday, May 19. To get your tickets,
simply print an order form from our website
(www.MtCarmelGuild.org) or call us at 392.5159, ext. 3.
The Guild intends to use its share of the raffle proceeds
for our Feeding Families Fridays program. During the
summer months when children do not receive hot
breakfast and lunch meals at school, we assist the
families with extra food. We purchase breakfast cereal,
fresh fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, and
100% juice boxes—"kid friendly" items—so the parents
don’t have to worry about where the money will come
from to provide three meals a day.

Your Parish School News
Go where the Action is! As you know, Our Lady of Sorrows students
devoted a day to service to the greater Trenton/Hamilton community
on Friday, May 1. Our school project was devoted to preparing
packages and lunches for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).
Well, somehow our school came to the attention of Channel 6 Action
News! With the organization of our faculty and professional staff, the
generosity of families and the dedication of our students an entire
school community came together in the cafeteria!
From the youngest in
Kindergarten to our soon to graduate Eighth Graders the work
began! Tables of young children were coloring brown bags that had
been distributed by middle school students. Primary children were
creating placemats to add to the lunch bags that were made by our
older students. Students were busy folding washcloths and adding
them to hygiene packets. Imagine their excitement, as Second and
Third grade students acted as "packers" moving quickly through the
room with boxes loaded with the children's work!
In the flurry of almost 300 students' work, the call was
announced! "Action News just called. They are on their way!"
Stop the presses, it was time to share the excitement with the children.
Did you hear that collective cheer last Friday morning rising from our
school? That was the voices of the children as the cameras began to
roll! As promised, we were on Channel 6 Action News at 5 o'clock.
Of course if you missed it, we made a copy and we are posting it on
our school website. Be sure to check it out along with the wonderful
diocesan video (Catholic Schools Have It All) featuring our own Mrs.
Tuohy, middle school faculty member.
"Our children" created about 400 lunches, hygiene packets,
refreshment kits and a host of placemats, cards and messages
that were delivered by our faculty to TASK. Many thanks go to Mrs.
Dusenshine, Lower School faculty member. She nurtured the dream
of this "day of service" and brought it to reality. How long did all this
take? Only about an hour to produce the product and fill the many
boxes! Imagine, all that can happen with only an hour. The real work
however, occurred well before that hour. The idea had to bloom, the
families had to donate, the thought of giving and sharing needed to
9
blossom in the hearts of many. Can our children afford to be away
from books for that hour? I'm sure you can quickly answer the
question. Our children learned a life lesson that will carry them for
years. They have learned the power of giving, the joy of sharing
the importance of working with a team and they learned the good
that
they
can
give the world.

excitement of your parish school and the wonderful people that
are in it!
Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, step-mothers, foster mothers,
grandmothers, godmothers, aunts, sisters, teachers, and anyone else who
nurtured or had a formative role in the life of a child.

Dear Msgr. Tom, Fr. Carter, Fr. Jean, Deacons, the Parish and School Staff, and my dear loving people
of the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows - St. Anthony’s,
Greetings and well wishes from Fr. Gene. As we enjoy the glorious season of Easter, I extend my
heartfelt and prayerful wishes for the season.
I had a safe journey back home to India. First and foremost, I thank God for the wonderful unexpected
opportunity to be with you for a few weeks in Hamilton. It was purely God’s intervention and was great
spending time with you. I was awestruck by your outpouring love, positive thoughts, generous time,
powerful prayers, and endless help that had reenergized me once again. I am grateful to all those who
had taken time to visit with me, offered help to take me to places in the midst of snow storms and
freezing weather, and those who joined me for an evening dinner before I left. Many thanks to those
who arranged it. I came back to “hot weather” in India, truly the reverse of “snow and cold.”
The Lenten program that has been a part of Our Lady of Sorrows - St. Anthony’s is a sincere
expression of the generosity and caring of its parishioners. Msgr. Tom, you are amazingly great for your
unconditional love, hospitality, and your genuine missionary spirit. I thank you from the bottom of my
heart for taking into consideration helping my village parish through Our Lady of Sorrows - St.
Anthony’s Lenten Mission. Special thanks to all the members of the Social Justice Committee for their
decision this year to support me in my endeavor to build a Community Center. It was very kind of the
Committee through the Lenten Work of Charity Program to make my “dream” come true. This will be a
great undertaking, but with your generous contribution, it will allow me to better serve my parish and
parishioners in a building that was built out of the hearts and love of Our Lady of Sorrows - St.
Anthony’s parishioners. I was so pleased that you all took the time to view the pictures and watch video
clips of what life is like in India. I will forever remember what you have done for me and my
parishioners, and please be assured that you will be remembered in our daily mass and prayers.
I am eternally grateful for your great expression of love for me and for my ministry here in India. It is a
great manifestation of your true love. I promise your generous sacrifices will be used for the worthy
cause of building a community hall to conduct parish ministries for my poor people here in India. They
will finally have a place where they can come together for religious and inter-religious programs. It will
also serve as a medical camp and a place where our self-help groups can meet as well as the youth
ministry will have a place for their meetings and gatherings. The adults and youth badly need a place to
hold seminars and talks, and for a little socializing.
I cannot forget the generosity and kindness expressed by the Rosary Altar Society, my brothers of the
Knights of Columbus, the Bible Study Group, Franciscan Fraternity, Pastoral and Finance Committee,
OLS School Principal, Staff and the warm welcome I received from the students and all the ministries of
the Parish. I can’t thank our Youth Group enough for their creative way of supporting this mission.
Please forgive if I missed anyone.
St. Francis of Assisi spent much time in lonely places asking God for enlightenment— God heard his
servant and gave him the wisdom to preach especially to the poor. Among his well-known sayings is his
famous Prayer—“it is in giving that we receive; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness,
light; and where there is sadness, joy.” We can count a day lost in which we have not done some good
for another; therefore, through your love and kindness, something that was almost impossible, became
possible.
Although I miss everyone and was given the experience of the “good life” in Hamilton, God called me to
spiritually enrich the lives of the poor in my homeland. Count your blessings each day, and know that
through your kindness and prayers you are able to give those in need a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
Spending the short time I had with all of you gave me more hope, and spiritually strengthened me to
live my priestly commitment with fervor and zeal in serving the poor in my homeland of India.
May God grant each of you many years of good health and happiness.
Fr. Gene

Come Celebrate a Special Anniversary Liturgy
for
Married Couples
If we love each other, God lives in us, and his love
has been brought to full expression through us.
1 John 4:12
In his book, Loving for a Lifetime, Richard Johnson, PhD, explains that sacred unity flows from
togetherness as we more fully understand that the love relationship between marriage partners is a
reflection of the love relationship between Jesus and all the children of God.
On June 6, there will be a special liturgy at the 5:00 p.m. Mass to honor the sacrament of marriage for
couples who are celebrating anniversaries of 1 year, multiples of 5 years, or more than 50 years,
during 2015.
Following will be a Wine and Cheese Reception for the married couples participating in this liturgy.
