May 10th - Our Lady Star of the Sea

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church
Solomons, Maryland
Dear OLSS Parishioners,
As Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, is the Patroness of our parish, it seems particularly significant as
we honor our own mother's this weekend. I thought I'd share this bit of motherly wisdom that was
shared with me.
Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this?" Here is a wonderful explanation!
A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong. She's failing Algebra, her
boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away. Meanwhile her mother is baking a
cake and asks her if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your
cake."
"Here, have some cooking oil" Mom offers. "Yuck" says the daughter. "How about a couple of raw
eggs?"..."Gross Mom"...Would you like some baking soda?"..."Mom, those are all Yucky!"
"Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves, but when they are put together in the right way, they
make a wonderfully delicious cake!"
God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and
difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for
good! We just have to trust Him and they will all make something wonderful.
THANKS MOMS FOR ALL YOUR LOVE AND WISE ADVICE AND DIRECTIONS!

What is the
End Hunger in
Calvert County
Dragon Boat
Festival all about?
Did you realize that over 10,000 families in Calvert County
rely on local food pantries for their NEXT meal? That means 1
in 9 of your neighbors is going hungry -And nearly 50% of
our hungry neighbors are children. Now you know the facts–
and here is a way that YOU can help to change this. On June
20, 2015, the local charity End Hunger in Calvert County is
holding a Dragon Boat Festival on the Boardwalk in North
Beach. All proceeds from this festival go towards ending
hunger in our county. Our Lady Star of the Sea is excited to
announce that we have entered a team in the races and we are
in the process of raising $2,000 to sponsor our boat. We are
looking for more paddlers and help with sponsoring to support
this outstanding cause as well as volunteers to cheer us on &
man our booth at the event. This is an incredibly FUN event
and a great way to meet your fellow parishioners while
supporting this important need. Team members,
sponsors & those interested in this event are invited
to a meeting on Mon, May 11 at 7 PM in the Parish
office. We will be choosing our team name, costumes
and going over other fun details.
