update on the 2015ohio high school water polo season

UPDATE ON THE 2015 OHIO HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO SEASON
Dear Potential Ohio High School Water Polo Referees,
If you plan on officiating the 2015 water polo season, you need to complete OWPRA’s
membership application (http://www.owpra.org/referee-information/membership-applicationform-files/on-line-membership-application.html) and pay your annual dues of $85
(http://www.owpra.org/referee-information/membership-application-form-files/information-forpaying-dues.html). You will also need to take the rules test (more information below) and sign
up for assignments. It is strongly encouraged that you attend the referee clinic on August 14 th to
15th (in Napoleon) as this is our main training event for the year.
A preliminary list of games (tournaments) for the 2015 water polo season has been posted on
OWPRA’s web site (http://www.owpra.org/referee-information/referee-assignments/2015referee-assignments.pdf). Once you have completed the membership application and paid your
membership fee, you may request assignments to games (tournaments) for the 2015 season.
Thus, you should check the schedule often and regularly for updated information regarding
games and assignments. To help you identify those games and tournaments in which you might
be interested, games in the Columbus area are highlighted in gray, games in the Cincinnati area
are highlighted in yellow, and games in northwest Ohio (Toledo, Napoleon, Sylvania) are
highlighted in gold.
To be considered for assignments to games or tournaments, send the following information to
Greg Sanchez (jordangregory.com@hotmail.com):

The date (dates) you are available (you can add dates later, if necessary).

For each game (tournament) date, specify the earliest time you can start and when
you must leave. If you are available for the entire day (tournament) and at all
times, please specify.

If there is more than one tournament or dual game scheduled for a specific date,
specify which location you prefer to work. If you can work at more than one
location, please rank in numerical order the locations at which you would prefer
to work.

You should notify Greg of any changes to the above information
IMMEDIATELY.

As part of your membership fee, you will receive a single copy of the 2015-2016 NFHS (“high
school”) Water Polo Rule Book (the Water Polo and Swimming Rules are no longer published in
the same book). The books have been ordered and will be mailed (via USPS) as soon as they are
received by OWPRA. You will also receive an e-mail containing information on how to take the
on-line, annual rules test. The e-mail will provide the web site address, a user name, a password,
and instructions for taking the test. For those of you wishing to do the State Championship
Tournaments, one of the considerations is that you will score 90% or above on the rules test.
The test is open-book and you may take the test multiple times. Before any “new”
(inexperienced) referee does his/her first game, he/she should have completed the rules test with
a score of at least 75%. If, for some reason, you are unable to complete the annual rules test
before your first game assignment, please contact Greg Sanchez so something can be worked
out.
Finally, if you have any questions regarding OWPRA and your duties and responsibilities as a
member of OWPRA, please feel free to contact one of OWPRA’s officers. Their names and
contact information, as well as virtually everything else you might want to know about OWPRA,
can be found on OWPRA’s web site.
