American Cancer Society 2015 Rhode Island Events
Bark For Life of Rhode Island
The 1st inaugural Bark For Life of Rhode Island will be held on Sunday, May 3rd from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. This event
honors the life-long contributions of our Canine Caregivers, including our pets and service animals who demonstrate
unconditional love, joy, security, compassion, and no judgments of cancer survivors abilities or appearances. Families
and their dogs come together and complete a one-mile walk to honor the caregiving qualities of their canine best friends
and cancer survivors. For more information, visit relayforlife.org
Relay for Life®
Relay for Life is a fun-filled community activity to celebrate survivors, remember those who have lost their lives to
cancer, and raise money for the fight against cancer. Volunteer committees plan and run each event. Help is needed to
recruit teams to walk, recruit survivors to participate, and help with every part of the event, from publicity to day-of
activities. For more information, visit relayforlife.org.
Rhode Island Cancer Action Network Lobby Day
Lobby Day will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Rhode Island State House,
Governor’s State Room. The focus will be on obesity prevention and updates on the palliative care advisory committee.
Volunteers will be able to speak with their elected officials and ensure they are representing their best interest in cancer
related issues.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Rhode Island Research Breakfast
The 2nd annual American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Rhode Island Research Breakfast will be held
on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. This event will support the work of ACS CAN which focuses on
advancing prevention and early detection, increasing cancer research funding, promoting tobacco control, enhancing
quality of life from diagnosis through survivorship, and implementing the Affordable Care Act for the betterment of
cancer patients.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer®
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the largest one day walk in the state! It unites the entire community to honor
and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about prevention and early detection, and raise funds to help
people stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back against the disease. We’re working to ensure all women have access
to cutting-edge breast cancer screenings and treatment, and providing services that improve the quality of life for
patients and their families. Teams of family, friends and coworkers are encouraged to walk this 3 mile route through
downtown Providence, RI on Sunday, October 18, 2015. There are year round volunteer opportunities available.
The Rhode Island American Cancer Society Distinguished Event
An American Cancer Society distinguished event to take place in the fall of 2015. The event will be honoring
Carolyn Rafaelian and Alex and Ani for all that the company does in support of the American Cancer Society.
Funds raised through the event will help the American Cancer Society carry out their mission of eliminating
cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer,
through research, education, advocacy, and service.
