One Year of Successful RETN-DE-CIX Apollon Cooperation on 100G Level
“With its central location in West Europe, DE-CIX’s Frankfurt exchange is topologically
convenient for traffic exchange with a long tail of world providers, offering connectivity options
at a reasonable price.” Alexandr Azarenok, Peering Manager at RETN
RETN is an international network service provider. RETN develops and operates its own fiber
optic backbone network that ensures data and IP traffic transmission between the largest
telecommunications nodes in the world. RETN serves different kinds of customers demanding
reliable connectivity: large enterprises, carriers, ISPs, CDNs, financial and governmental
organizations, and hosting and Cloud providers.
Founded in 2002, RETN provides international IP transit, Ethernet VPN services, capacity,
remote peering, colocation and other infrastructure services. Its network exceeds 30,000 km of
lit fiber routes and connects 26 countries throughout Europe, Asia and North America. The wide
range of services is offered at more than 150 RETN PoPs over the RETN network. RETN delivers
bandwidth speeds of up to 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) across its cross-border DWDM network
infrastructure based on Infinera 500 Gigabit/s Super-Channels. The total network capacity on its
four main routes between Europe and Asia reaches 5 Terabit/s.
DE-CIX Internet exchange platforms in Frankfurt and New York allow RETN to interconnect with
hundreds of global networks. As a member of the DE-CIX Partner Program, RETN can also offer
remote peering services to this Internet exchange for all its international clients.
Peering on a Global Scale
More than 400 international and domestic providers and 500 corporate clients rely on RETN’s
network to transmit data across the globe. With the use of video, mobile devices, social
networking platforms and cloud computing skyrocketing, the RETN network’s reliable and
secure connectivity is in high demand. RETN continues to expand its service offerings and global
presence to broaden its reach and better serve what has quickly become a global customer
base.
Ranked as the top Internet traffic hub in Europe by TeleGeography, DE-CIX’s carrier-neutral
exchange in Frankfurt is known for offering the most expansive list of networks and peering
partners. The high density of network traffic offers RETN the ideal location to interconnect with
a long list of carriers, which includes the largest carriers in the world. The combination of high
availability, cost-effective pricing and impressive network “gravity” make DE-CIX Frankfurt an
ideal location for RETN to interconnect.
“We are glad to be present at DE-CIX, one of the leading European peering platforms, because
it provides a gateway to a wide range of distant providers,” explained Alexandr Azarenok,
Peering Manager at RETN. “With its central location in West Europe, DE-CIX’s Frankfurt
exchange is topologically convenient for traffic exchange with a long tail of world providers,
offering connectivity options at a reasonable price.”
DE-CIX Delivers Advanced Technology
DE-CIX is a carrier- and data center-neutral Internet exchange with extensive infrastructure
across the Frankfurt metro. The award-winning DE-CIX Apollon technology platform was
introduced in 2013 and offers advanced Ethernet-based interconnection services over
redundant Layer 2 networks across numerous locations in Frankfurt. This high-capacity
platform delivers security and reliability for RETN and all its customers.
A Jump to 100G
DE-CIX Apollon offers access speeds from 1 Gigabit fractional to multiple 100 GE ports. Due to
growing transport volumes with its more than 2,000 global ISP partners, RETN was one of the
first DE-CIX members to upgrade its multiple 10 GE ports at DE-CIX to 100 GE. This upgrade to
100 GE addresses the provider’s ongoing demand for reliable and secure connectivity across all
its peering relationships. In addition, RETN can fully respond to the demands of a larger number
of clients by delivering top-notch and reliable remote peering services via the DE-CIX Internet
exchange.
