SAINT BERNARD
Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word
Pentecost Sunday
A SIGNIFICANT DAY— "And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and
it filled the entire house in which they were." The Holy Spirit's arrival on that first Pentecost was signaled
by a rush of wind. We all know what it's like when our windows are open just as a summer storm rises up.
Curtains fly, papers become airborne, house plants shudder, dust is scattered. A rush of wind disrupts the
orderliness of our home. The coming of the Holy Spirit, as celebrated each year at Pentecost, can also
disrupt ways that have become comfortable and orderly. The Church always needs Pentecost. We need the
breath of God's Spirit to blow away any complacency or malaise that has settled into our faith. Jesus
breathes on his disciples and they receive the Holy Spirit. With that reception comes the power to share the
Good News of salvation. Today, this is no less true for us!
Monthly 50/50 Raffle
Blank yellow envelopes for the May
drawing are available at the doors of the
church for those who would like to
participate but do not receive monthly
envelopes in the mail. Contribution is $25
and the proceeds will be used for the
ongoing renovation and rebuilding of the
parish facilities.
Winner takes home half the amount
collected for the given month. Drawings are
held the last Sunday of each month and the
next winner will be picked May 31, 2015!

If we can all increase our weekly offering by just a small
amount, we can collectively turn an operating deficit into an
operating surplus. Even an increase as small as $1 per week
made by everyone can help us to keep St. Bernard running
smoothly and efficiently.

To provide for our needs and

the formation of our faith in
future generations of Catholics.
Saint Bernard will receive back
50% of all funds raised up to our
goal and 75% of funds raised
over our target.
If you have received a letter or
packet about this very important
campaign, please prayerfully
consider making a pledge and
return it to the Rectory or directly
to Msgr. Jamie.
