(Values, Individuality, Excellence, Worth, Sustainability Principal’s Pen This is an important week for our Yr 3 and Yr 5 students as they are timetabled to sit NAPLAN literacy and numeracy tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Testing will be conducted over the three days beginning with language conventions and writing on Tuesday, reading on Wednesday and numeracy on Thursday. For students who miss any of these days/sessions make up time is scheduled so children can be supervised whilst they complete the booklet they missed. Ideally however, it is recommended children sitting the tests attend Tuesday - Thursday so they complete the tests in their own classroom, with their peers and their classroom teacher. Has your child come home recently and said that GOTCHAs have changed at school? This term we have refined the process to enhance our school wide expectations around being caring, safe and successful. No longer do GOTCHAs have anything to do with which sport house your child is in but rather whether they are being identified for being caring, safe or successful. Green GOTCHAs are for being caring, red GOTCHAs are for being safe and blue GOTCHAs are for being successful. Once your child receives a GOTCHA the class teacher records this on a tally chart within the classroom. Your child’s great behaviour will not go unnoticed as they can work towards earning special wristbands, badges and exclusive end of term celebrations. Last week when I spoke about this at parade I was thrilled to hear the children telling me what the cards were for and how many you needed to earn to get a wristband – excitement is growing!! Please keep a look out over the next coming weeks as I will be giving out more information around our new system. A huge thankyou to the wonderful band of volunteers who helped make our annual Mother’s Day stall such a success for our children! Your help and support of our school and our students is very much appreciated… I trust all our wonderful mums enjoyed their special day Sunday. NO STOPPING The No Stopping sign shows where vehicles cannot stop at any time. These zones are u su ally t here t o en su re pedestrian safety and are strictly enforced. Enjoy your week, Michelle s To ensure the safety of our children around our school at drop and pick up times could all parents and caregivers please take note of the signage in our parking areas. See you soon Thanks, The Fang Gang JANES JOTTINGS Jane Brentnall - Guidance Officer Teaching tolerance Talk about tolerance and respect: When media or life experiences present opportunities regarding tolerance or lack thereof, talk to your child about the values you would like them to exhibit. Answer kids’ questions about differences honestly and respectfully. This teaches that it is acceptable to notice and discuss differences as long as it is done with respect. Point out and talk about unfair stereotypes that may be portrayed in media. Remember that tolerance does not mean tolerating unacceptable behaviour. It means that everyone deserves to be treated with respect - and in turn should treat others with respect as well. GOTCHA AWARDS GOTCHA’s are changing! GOTCHA’s will be given out to students when they are caught doing the right thing outside of the classroom by following our three main school rules of being Caring, Safe and Successful. Double GOTCHA’s will be given when students are caught doing the fortnightly focus.
