CAPTAIN’S LOG
Dear Parents,
Our Sailors came back from Spring Break well rested and ready to
finish the year. The end of Quarter 3 is March 27th. Report cards
will go home on April 13th. Every student needs to set new goals for
the final reporting period.
Our new FSA test was given to 3rd and 4th graders in March. Our 5th graders will
test April 13th- May 1st. We do not expect the scores to return before the end of the
year. If you have any concerns, please contact the office.
The last topic I would like to address is attendance. Please make sure your child attends school every day unless they are sick. Having regular attendance habits is
critical to achieving success. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need assistance in helping improve your child's attendance. Our teachers work exceptionally
hard to provide all students with the opportunity to learn. Please allow your child

A NOTE FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
As a reminder….
This year both the 5th Grade FSA Language Arts and Mathematics
portion of the test will administered ONLINE the Week of April 13th.
In building a comfort level, each child has an assigned computer
within one of our two labs. We’re encouraging each child to be here
for testing…and on time so they’re familiar with the routine.
5th Grade students are welcome to visit www.fsassesment.org to
familiarize themselves with sample questions and various features of the FSA.
The Week of April 27th 5th Graders will be taking the FCAT Science the old-fashioned
way with paper and pencil. Attendance is importance, too.

COUNSELORS CORNER
Our character trait for the month of April is INTEGRITY; being
strong enough to do what you know is right. Integrity is also knowing
the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do the right
thing, even when it is difficult.
Having integrity can take a long time to learn, but the more a child
practices this, the more likely she or he will develop this crucial value.
Check out some tips below:
*** Talk to your kids about what integrity means, and what it means to stand up for your
own values. Ask them who they see as having a sense of integrity.
*** As a family, identify role models with integrity whom you admire. These may include
Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, or someone else. Learn about
these individuals and how they learned to live a life of integrity.
*** Applaud and support family members when they “do the right thing, even when it’s hard.”
Maybe your child stepped in when another child was being teased. Or maybe your child
admitted to cheating on a test—even though she knows the entire class cheated and she
was the only one who got into trouble for her honesty.
*** When someone with integrity admits to making a mistake, talk about this as a family.
Talk about which actions you believe are most damaging and why. With older teenagers,
discuss why leaders can be tempted to do the wrong thing.

COACH V’S COURT
IMPORTANT DATES
APRIL
In March we finished our Jump Rope for Heart event.
The event went very well and we were able to raise
close to $1,000. I want to thank all of the students
that participated and were able to help raise money
for such a good cause. If you raised enough money
to receive a prize they should arrive in the next week.
Now that we are entering the final 9 weeks it is time for us to start
reviewing for our PE End of the Year Exam. To do this we will be focusing on a different skill each week and some important vocabulary words
for that skill. We do not take the exam until May so we have plenty of
time to be prepared.
3 - NO SCHOOL
Non-Student Day
Please do not forget to have your child bring some
water and even a hat or sunglasses. Now that it is
Spring the sun is already starting to get really hot.
We will take breaks to cool off while we are outside
but there are no water fountains for us to use so it is
really important for your child to have their own water.

Breakfast is served every morning from 7:30am to 7:50am.
Breakfast is free for all students and we encourage them to eat
with us each morning. Lunch is served daily at a cost of $2.25
per student. Please check your child’s lunch account balance
to make sure that it is up to date. You can check for balances
for your child’s lunch by going to the www.MealpayPlus.com or call the
lunchroom at 651-2110 ext. 232.
