PRINCIPAL’S LETTER
APRIL 2015
Dear Parents,
During Holy Week, St. Helen’s staff together with our priests Fr. Antonio and Fr. Vincent will prepare
the children for this special and most important time in our church. We want you to reflect with your
family on the following reading to prepare our students for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter
and to bring them to church. This year our Grade 7 students will be reading at the Holy Thursday
mass at 7:00pm and Fr. Antonio will also be washing the feet of six boys and girls from Grade 7 (Please
see schedule below).
John 13:1-7
Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and
go to the Father…..The devil had already put into the heart of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot to betray him.
And during supper Jesus...took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then, he poured water
into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus answered, “You
do not know now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

EVENTS:
DRUM CAFE
Drum Café is an event that promotes team-building, community engagement and communication
skills. “The drum is an ancient tool of communication and community building. In Afr ica and in many other cultures around the world, before any major tribal decision is made, the community gathers together at the
centre of the village to make music. This joyous making of music breaks down barriers and creates a sense of
unity, thus enabling communities to become more effective in their decision-making.”
Burnaby Mayor, Derek Corrigan visited the Grade 7 students on Tuesday, March 24th to explain and promote
Epilepsy Awareness Day on Thursday March 26th.
CONGRATULATIONS to Carly Ronning, Grade 6A, who auditioned and was chosen as the main character
Oliver in the Stanley Park Theatre Productions.
