Unfortunately, the Bantam team had a tough match up for their first game of the playoffs and was knocked out in the first round. The players were: Patrick, JoJo, Jayden, Allen, Preston, Jordan, Rylee, Wesley, Reid, Caleb, Conor, Daniel, Scottie, Edward, Austin, Cy’rena, and Justin. The team demonstrated great sportsmanship over the season and a huge improvement in skills. Thanks again to our coaches Dover Bay Grade 12 student Gary Gladstone, Mr. Lowrence and Ms. Konynenbelt who ran the Friday after school basketball drop-in sessions. Thank you to the parents and staff members who helped drive the team. Next up we have Track and Field. Students in Grades 3 to 7 have been practicing Track and Field skills in their gym classes. All these students will participate in our school meet along with Georgia Ave. this upcoming Friday. Qualifiers from that meet will go on to the Zone Meet on May 21. BAYVIEW FAMILY FUN FACTS We are in our final few weeks of our Bayview Family Fun Facts program. Thankyou to all those people that have sent things in for their children to share and those who have sent in little notes about their family heritage on their weekly ballots. We have been continuing to learn lots about our students, their families and their communities. Our final few weeks will include the words First Nation (especially those living off of Vancouver Island), Multi-cultural, Clothing, and Food...if you have anything you or your child would like to share, please contact Gena Seward-Wilson or Jenn Stringer @ the school. Students can receive 1 ballot each week. BUT, they can receive 2 extra ballots by sharing our Weekly Fun Fact sheet at home and having it initialed by a parent/guardian, then returning it to school. Each week we give away 2 prizes: 1 to a student in Kindergarten to Grade 3 and 1 to a student in Grades 4 to 7. Continue to look for these Fun Fact sheets coming home each week. Keep your eyes open for information on our Year-End Family Fun Facts Celebration. NEW 3 YEAR CALENDAR ADOPTED The Board of Education voted in favour of adopting five recommendations set forth in the local school calendar consultation. The recommendations are: 1) Extend the existing three-year local school calendar to 2017-2018 2) Elementary school local schedule guidelines 3) Secondary school local schedule guidelines 4) Two week spring break 5) Removal of one district implementation day and replacing it with an instructional day Come to the PAC meeting on Tues., May 12 to find out more info and help with some school-based decisions around our daily schedule. KEEP ACTIVE KEEP MOVING EVENT DRESS CODE This inaugural event is taking place Sat., May 9th 10:00 – 3:00 in Maffeo Sutton Park. Join Doctors Poteryko and Houghton at 11:00 a.m. in a Walk With Your Doc www.walkwithyourdoc.ca, a one hour easy 3K walk around the park. It’s for people of all ages, no matter your ability. There will be free interactive sports demonstrations – try your hand at dragon boating, paddling, bocce ball, basketball, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics, Tai Chi, Pilates - even lawn bowling! Check out the information/demonstration booths in the park. With warmer weather on the way, just a reminder about our dress code. The school is a place to work and learn and as such students are expected to dress in a manner that is conducive to this expectation. At school we rely on the good sense of students and their parents rather than a strict code as to what is suitable to wear to school. Remember ‘tops should meet bottoms’, ‘lasagna straps’ instead of spaghetti straps, and no inappropriate language or pictures on the clothing. 2
