Everest Executive Eduducation (School Of Business Leadership) GENERAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (GMP) How to Tie your Training & Development to Strategy Alignment, Performance Improvement & ROI DEVELOPING WORLD - CLASS ORGANIZATIONS IN A RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD • Managing Change • Performance Management • Organizational Development Is your Training and Development Tied to your Strategy? “There is no other workplace issue on which so much money is spent with as little accountability as training. ” - Brendan Hall, 1998 - The promise of Training or Learning and Development (L&D) has always been to improve workplace performance. However, the inconvenient truth about Learning or Training is that many, if not most companies never assess whether learning and development is aligned strategic business goals or if they are getting a Return On Investment (ROI) from the money and time invested in training and development. Most organisations have no way of knowing which training intervention is valuable, and which is not, or whether their training is actually furthering the goals of their business. Today Organizations of all types value their investments. What’s new is the method that organizations can use to get there. Although showing return on investment may be the ultimate report of value, organization leaders recognize that value lies in the eye of the beholder; therefore, the method used to show return on investment must also show the value as perceived by all stakeholders. Just as important, organizations need a methodology that provides data to help improve investment decisions. Value Redefined: Today the value definition has shifted: value is defined by results and returns from training. 1. Are you still using traditional selection methods for your training interventions? 2. Is your learning and development aligned to your strategic business objectives? 3. How do you retain and transfer learning back to the workplace for improved performance? 4. Are you able to measure your return on training investment?
