HOW-TO GUIDE FOR THE MILESTONE INTEGRATION PLATFORM PLUG-IN LICENSING FRAMEWORK

HOW-TO GUIDE FOR THE MILESTONE INTEGRATION PLATFORM PLUG-IN
LICENSING FRAMEWORK
With the release of MIP SDK 2 Milestone provides an integrated licensing framework into the MIP
environment. This enables MSP’s to issue and manage licenses to their customers through the
Milestone PartnerNet and Milestone Software Registration Center.
The MIP licensing framework is easy to implement for MSP’s, providing an extremely flexible
framework to implement a variety of different licensing models, easy access to license information
in all MIP environments and built-in support for building Milestone recommended 30 day trial
licenses.
The MIP licensing framework provides optimal user experience for the installer or end customer for
handling their licenses. There is no longer a need for the end-customer to have several different
licenses to different software since the MSP plug-in license is now just part of the Milestone SLC
and the MSP solution can be treated as any other device that will be available after online (or
offline) activation in the Milestone Management Client/Application.
To get started with the Milestone Integration Platform Plug-in licensing framework, log-on to
PartnerNet with your login credentials. If you do not have a login, please contact the Milestone
Solution Partner (MSP) admin team at partner@milestonesys.com.
Registering and issuing MIP plug-in licenses is a two stage process:
1. Registration on Milestone PartnerNet
2. Issue and Manage plug-in license via the Software Registration Service Center
Registration on Milestone PartnerNet

Authorize relevant people within your organization or your sales partners to issue licenses
to your MIP plug-in
1. Software Registration Service Center
First step is to make sure that each person that needs to be authorized to issue licenses to
your MIP plug-in is required to have an account in the Software Registration Service
Center. On this page http://www.milestonesys.com/Software+Registration, you or the
person who needs access can register for an account.

2. Authorization to issue
On the PartnerNet page, you can authorize people by adding their email addresses to the
table.
If the user does not have an account, you will receive a warning: ‘Please create the user in
the Software Registration Service Center before registering here’.

In the table you will find already registered MIP plug-ins, if you have any.

1. Register New Plug-in
To register a new plug-in, use the link below the table to enter the registration form.
In the form you will need to provide:

Plug-in Name
o The plug-in name is the name of the MIP plug-in. The MSP can decide this
name but the name entered in the plug-in registration needs to be the same
as the name entered in the source code under the property Name in the
PluginDefinition.

Plug-in GUID
o The plug-in GUID is a Global Unique IDentifier identifying this specific plugin. The GUID needs to be in the format “xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx” (where x can be either letters or numbers). The GUID should
be automatically generated by a Microsoft tool to ensure its uniqueness. The
MSP will need to assign a new GUID to the property Id in the
PluginDefinition in the plug-in during development. The GUID in the plug-in
registration should be the same as the GUID from the plug-in source code.

Plug-in Type
o The plug-in type is the identification of the license. The Plug-in type should
match the LicenseType property defined when creating the
LicenseInformation object in the source code.
Or you can install the license registration tool provided to extract the above information
from your plug-in.
2. Edit

page, you are able to rename and edit any of the information associated with the registered
MIP plug-in.
Issue and Manage plug-in license via the Software Registration Service Center
In the Software Registration Service Center, you can issue and manage the plug-in licenses that
are registered via PartnerNet.
When you log-in click on ‘MIP plug-in licenses’ in the upper right hand corner. On the main page
for MIP plug-in licenses you can issue new licenses and manage already registered MIP plug-ins.
To issue a license, choose the license name from the drop-down box. Choose license type from
the second drop-down box. Insert a customer SLC and license count for how many licenses you
wish to issue. If the licenses should have an expiry date, please choose one from the pop-up
calendar. And add any custom data you would like to record regarding the customer for your own
use.
