No, they don’t seem to have a schedule conflict but are simply too busy with usual, daily tasks and commonplace matters to accept the hospitality of a great ruler. In a wonderful twist, the king sends his servants out with instructions to bring in everyone – whomever – to fill the house with people so the wedding banquet can continue. Can you imagine?! Everyone is drawn into the house, whether neighbor, servant, slave, or passerby. What a wonderful image of the Church this is: God, our King, creates community and family out of an incredibly diverse group of people. In the famous phrase of James Joyce, “Here comes everybody!” As we pray in the Mass, “Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” We are blessed indeed! Let us pray. Lord our God, you have called each of us to the marriage-supper of the Lamb. May we come to the feast with open hearts, clothed in Christ and ready to do your will. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. By Katie Evans Music is a dialogue the congregation uses to support the text of the Mass of the Ordinary. Our responses and acclamations represent a powerful opportunity for prayer. At Jesus the Good Shepherd, the Choir and Assembly have been singing the “Mass of Christ the Savior” by Dan Schutte for the past three years. The music ministry is now introducing the parts to the “Mass of Saint Ann”. These sacred musical compositions will enable the Assembly to refresh the prayerful words of the liturgy and breathe new life into the responses that are so important to the Eucharist. It is customary in parishes to have at least 2-3 Mass settings for Ordinary time, Advent, and Lent, so “Mass of Christ the Savior” will not be forgotten! If you would like to prepare for these changes, please visit the Music Ministries page for a free download of the assembly card, as well as, clips to listen to online. A CD can be requested by e-mailing Katie Evans at music@ccjgs.org. Jesus stays with us in the Blessed Sacrament, calling out to each of us: “Come to Me all you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you” [Matt. 11:28]. Jesus stays with us in the Blessed Sacrament to refresh us in mind and heart and spirit by lavishing upon us those graces that encourage us, console us, strengthen us, guide us, and inspire us to place all our trust in His Sacred Heart, so that the power of His love may cast out every doubt, fear, doubt, worry and anxiety that we have. BIRTHRIGHT OF PRINCE FREDERICK On Saturday, October 18 there will be a training class for new volunteer counselors to work with clients at our crisis pregnancy center. This is an exciting opportunity to serve your community and to be involved in life-saving work. For more information and to receive an information packet, please contact Birthright at 410-257-1401. An application and two references need to be received before attending training. NEW JGS COMMUNITY PHOTO DIRECTORY: We are still awaiting the “proof” for our new and updated Community Photo Directory. Once the proof is received, it will be reviewed for any errors and returned immediately to LifeTouch for publication. Thank you for your cooperation and for your patience. MASS ETIQUETTE/MANNERS MATTER: As Catholics, we believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Mass, in the Eucharist. Out of respect, it is expected that one arrives either before or on time for Mass. One would not consider being late for work, school, a doctor’s appointment, a sports game or going out for a movie. We seem to be on time for these events; why is the Mass for some the exception? The Mass deserves our utmost respect. Sometimes there are legitimate exceptions to the rule [unexpected weather delays, a sick child, etc.]. But in general, kindly make every effort to leave a few minutes earlier from home in order to arrive at Mass on time. When one is late, it is disrespectful to the Lord Himself and to the community. Given the layout of our church, late-comers are also a distraction to our liturgical prayer as a community/family of faith, when entering the church after Mass has begun. CONFIRMATION CLASSES meet Sunday, October 19th at their regular locations and times. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2014 - Confirmation retreat day for Sponsors and Candidates beginning at 12 noon and concluding with the 5p.m. Mass where we will celebrate the Rite of Entrance. BABY BOTTLE BLITZ! – Thank you for the generous support of Care Net Crisis Pregnancy Center in Prince Frederick. PLEASE RETURN THE BOTTLES THE WEEKEND OF OCT. 2526. In the past many bottles have been returned late and, indeed, 1/3 of the bottles were never returned at all, at considerable cost to Care Net. Thanks for your cooperation in returning all bottles! YOUNG ADULT MASS WITH CARDINAL WUERL, OCTOBER 26TH Young Adults (college-aged through 30s) across the Archdiocese of Washington are invited for our Annual Young Adult Mass with Cardinal Donald Wuerl on Sunday, October 26th at 3pm at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in DC. Last year nearly 600 young adults participated in this can't-miss event! Immediately following Mass we will have an after-party at Buffalo Billiards Bar (3 blocks away) with food, drinks and a FREE concert with Marie Miller! (Valid 21+ ID required for after-party). Register at DCCatholic.eventbrite.com. The same principle applies for the proper time for leaving Mass. Out of respect, one should stay for the entirety of Mass and stay until the end of the closing song – and not before – it is not right either that some leave church right after they receive Holy Communion. This is very disrespectful to Christ Himself and to the community whom, by baptism, is also the Body of Christ. Imagine having a family meal at home and just leaving after you have eaten without any consideration to the rest of family members left behind at the table. The same applies to the Eucharistic Table. Kindly remain in church until the closing song is completed. Sometimes, granted, there are exceptions also to leaving Mass early, but these are exceptions and are not intended to be the rule. Thank you for your cooperation in being respectful and upholding the dignity of the liturgy. Electronic Giving: JGS has an electronic offertory giving program called Faith Direct. Faith Direct allows a paperless and “green” way to give your offertory gift to our community to help serve our many ministries. Another benefit of Faith Direct is that there is consistent support in our offertory. For example, when you are away, either due to weather or vacation, Faith Direct allows continuing offertory. Please enroll today by visiting the JGS website: ccjgs.org - click on the Resources tab and then click on eGiving. Thank you for your kindness in responding to this new and modern way of Catholic offertory giving. 5 The Virtue of Stewardship 40 Days for Life continues through November 2. Property update and Campaign Update: We continue to be patient as we await the county permits to begin construction for our new cemetery! As soon as the county permits are received, the road and the layout of the cemetery will begin. Permits take time and it is good to remember JGS is one of several customers and we must wait our turn from the County who grants the permits. In the meantime, if you look at the building site, you will easily see orange markers where the road, the cemetery and the columbarium will be located. These were installed last week. Even this is exciting to see! The markers allow us to visualize where things will be. In the meantime, for all this to happen, your pledge to the Campaign is very important and necessary. Our thanks to all in our community who have made a pledge/gift. A reminder to those who have not yet given to participate by returning the campaign pledge form that was mailed to you earlier this summer. We are almost at 73% of our goal of the necessary $600,000 needed to make our dreams become realities. As your pastor, I am so excited about this project, I have made a personal pledge of $7,500. It means some personal sacrifice on my part but a sacrifice I am willing to make for this community. I am happy to do it. Thank you for your support of your parish also. WORLD MISSION SUNDAY OCTOBER 18-19, 2014—Reminding us of Our Lord’s commission to spread the Gospel to all nations, this second collection supports Church missions in more than 1,150 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America.
