Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
October 7th
Sparkill Dominicans – Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary
Founders and Administrators of Albertus Magnus High School
“It could be said that each mystery of the rosary, carefully meditated, sheds light on the mystery of man. ‘Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you’ (Ps 55: 23). To pray the
rosary is to hand over our burdens to the merciful hearts of Christ and his Mother. The rosary
does indeed ‘mark the rhythm of human life,’ bringing it into harmony with the ‘rhythm’ of
God’s own life, in the joyful communion of the Holy Trinity, our life’s destiny and deepest
longing. Through the rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very
hands of the Mother of the Redeemer.” – Saint John Paul II

The Parent Association (PA) is a group of volunteer parents dedicated to the support of AMHS programs and
events. The PA organizes social, fundraising and community service events for each AMHS Class and implements major fundraising events such as the Spring Gala/Auction for specific capital improvements for the
school. The PA assists school administration, athletics and clubs in scheduling events and creating a master
events calendar. The PA also partners with administration in sponsoring educational programs for our parents
and students on topics in the news or key to our children’s success.
If you were unable to attend the initial meeting and would like to join the

FROM THE OFFICE OF CAMPUS MINISTRY
Summer…what summer?? Most of the people I meet (of varying generations)
seem to have the same reaction when asked: “How was your summer?” They reply: “Great but it went by so quickly!” Well I know that I feel the same but I am
grateful to hear our hallways filled once again with the voices of our students, the
patter of not so little feet attempting to get to class on time and the clatter of locker
doors at the end of the day. We each have some wonderful memories of our summer and I would like to share one of mine with you.
As the last Regents was completed and AM was officially closed for the summer, I had the privilege of attending the Dominican High School Preaching Conference with two of our students, Tim Brenner and Kiera
Townsend. The five day conference was held at Siena Heights University in Adrian MI and was attended by
over 120 students from Dominican high schools from across the country and Puerto Rico. The purpose was to
help the students understand the values and traditions of the Dominican Order as well as how young people
attending Dominican high schools are called to preach using their gifts in service to others. Workshops were
held in art, drama, dance, eco-spirituality, advocacy and much more. Students and mentors planned prayer services and Masses as well as participated in service activities. This was made possible through the sponsorship of
the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill and Tim, Kiera and I are deeply grateful for their generosity. Hopefully we
will be able to do this again in 2015. As a follow-up we are inaugurating an AM HS Preaching Team. These
students will commit to learning more about the Order as well as participate in various functions both on and
off campus. The formation of this group is currently in process and the first gathering will be October 14,
2014.
We have also hit the ground running with other activities connected to Campus Ministry. Our new Eucharistic
Ministers and Lectors have begun serving the AM community at our Masses. We held our Service Fair on September 18th and many students took advantage of signing up to help the outside organizations and earn service
hours. Pro-Life is gearing up for the Life Chain on October 5th and a “Green Team” has come into being to
help make AM greener and our students more aware of their responsibilities to care for the earth. Our first
Midnight Run will involve the senior class on October 24th and we will sponsor a daily “Rosary For Life” each
afternoon at 2:30 in chapel. Of course, none of this happens without your support and donations of clothes,
toiletries and baked goods and I thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity in helping us get these
activities off the ground.
May this be a year of blessing for you and your families. Be assured of my prayers for you and know that I am
always happy to assist you in any way.

Albertus Magnus Field Day
Albertus Magnus hosted the first annual Field Day on Friday, September 26th for the 7th & 8th graders from
the five elementary schools in Rockland County – Sacred Heart, St. Anthony, St. Gregory, St. Margaret & St.
Paul. We had approximately 235 students participate. The day was a tremendous success with picture perfect
weather. In an atmosphere of friendly competition and school spirit, the students participated in several athletic
events including football, soccer, track, lacrosse, baseball, softball and basketball. Lunch was provided, and we
had a DJ, who added to the festivities. Congratulations to the 1st Place Field Day winner: St. Margaret, and to
the Spirit Award winner: St. Anthony.
Mrs. Power sends a special thank you to all of our coaches for their help in making the first annual Field Day
event such a great success – Coaches McFadden, Gavan, Lopez, Anderson, Freeman, Holland, Ostolozaga,
Fitzpatrick, and Villanueva. Go Falcons!!
