N O T E S FROM THE PASTOR In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear a continuation of Christ’s emphasis in the readings of the past few weeks on seeing the world as God sees it. Over the last two weeks, our life was compared to working in a carefully cultivated vineyard, to serve and share its fruitfulness. This week the meaning of our life is described in terms of our acceptance or refusal of repeated invitations to participate in a great “wedding feast” of the King for His Son. At every celebration of the Eucharist before the reception of Holy Communion, the Priest speaks words echoing those of St. John the Baptist: “Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” This “Lamb’s Supper” celebrating the union of Christ and His Bride, the Church, is exactly the great wedding banquet described in the closing chapters of the Book of Revelation, the very same feast the Lord Jesus is referring to in His parable. Sharing in the life of the Church involves emerging from our private concerns so that we can find the Lord at the heart of our caring for one another. This weekend’s Annual Bishop’s Appeal is one way of supporting the work of Christ throughout our Diocese. In addition to all of the good initiatives that Bishop Rhoades highlights in the video, I must also mention the support you provide through the Appeal (and the Pentecost Collection in June) for the education of our seminarians for the Priesthood. Fr. Andrew and I are particularly grateful that your support in previous years made possible our seminary studies to serve you. Any and all of the overage for this year’s Appeal at St. Vincent’s will go toward funding increased handicapped accessibility on our parish grounds, a goal identified in our five-year Pentecost Plan. The first priority would be a ramp for the main entrance of our School, followed by the possibility of extending a covered walkway toward the parking lot on the south side of church. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Finally, in this month of October dedicated to increased respect for all human life, I share with you a photo of an event I described in last week’s homily. On Christmas Day 2012 I had the joy of meeting the doctor who delivered me as a baby. Dr. “Andy” Gonzales holds a crucifix that I gave him after I administered to him the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. It was an extraordinary privilege to see the eyes which first saw me and to anointing the hands which first held me. Dr. Gonzales went to meet the Lord in March of this year. Through your prayers and mine, may he receive his seat at the eternal Wedding Feast of the Lamb! In St. Vincent’s love of Christ, Fr. Daniel Scheidt WEDDING BANNS “Please pray that the Lord will abundantly bless these couples as they prepare to take their marriage vows.” III II II I Craig Fischer and Nicole Bowland Ryan Williams and Bethany Ransbottom A.J .Hamilton and Alyssa Roy Zach Ruetz and Sarita Boacheon M I N I S T R Y ST.
