Like Mel Hambelton Ford on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mhford We traveled to El Dorado last Friday night and won 60-7. Everyone got to play in the game and our JV scored 2 touchdowns. It is very difficult to get ready for a football game knowing you are going to play against a team that is struggling. I felt like our initial execution showed we weren’t as ready to play as we would have been against a more challenging team. It was nice to win big even though we did not do things perfectly. We will continue to work hard and improve every day in practice. On offense we finished with 607 yards of offense. Dakota Wolf set a school record in receiving with 9 catches for 216 yards. Jace Williams was 11-17 passing with 239 yards and 2 TD’s. Dillon Engelland had another big night with 198 yards rushing on 18 carries; he also had 5 TD’s. Josh potter had 6 carries for 45 yards and 1 TD. Our Mooseman was Davey Dukart and Runner-Up was Dustin Rush. Our defense had a dominating performance but we did not tackle as well as we would have liked. We will be working on tackling this week. Jordan Wedel lead our team with 19 tackles. Jaden Abernathy had 9 tackles and 1 sack from his defensive end position. Logan Lindbloom had 8 tackles and an interception. Kolton Miller had 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Joe Hoskinson had one sack and so did Dakota Wolf. Our team award winners were: Mooseman-Davey Dukart, Excalibur- Ethan White, Scout Team Hero- Austin Howard and Slobberknocker-Chase Shantz. Hays is 6-0 and has been ranked 2nd all year long. Hays has a tremendous QB that has committed to play at KSU. He throws the ball well and is also a very good running quarterback. They run a 3-4 and 4-2 defense. At times this year they have blitzed a lot of linebackers. Our offensive linemen will have to be ready to protect our QB. I feel like this week’s game is going to be a very physical game. Their offensive and defensive linemen are big and get off the ball very well. Our players are confident and working hard for this game. We are excited to be at home and we are up for the challenge that Hays brings to our field. - Coach Steve Warner http://hayshighindians.com/Athletics/Fall/Football/index.html http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/hays-indians-(hays,ks)/football/home.htm Please come out for Senior Night. Friday, October 17, 2014 BHS vs. Hays High School Come and celebrate our Senior Class as they play their last regular season home football game. It is also PHMS Band Night. Both of the offenses scored every time they touched the ball in the first half. The first TD was an 11 yard run by Ethan White, which was set up by a great Dylan Brown kick-off return. Jack Goertzen's kick made it 7-0. The other 1st quarter score was a 4 yard run by Dalton Brown and Logan Sweet's kick put the Crusaders up 14-0. This TD was set up by a stingy defense and a fumble recovery by Jake McCreary. In the 2nd quarter, Dalton Brown scored again on a 24 yard draw play and the Sweet kick made it 21-0. The next defensive stop was an interception by Andrew Voth, which set up the next 1 play scoring drive when Ethan White went 53 yards for six. Goertzen's kick was good and Buhler led 28-0. The final score of the half was a 9 yard run by Jhet Burkhart and the Sweet kick made the half-time score 35-0. A third quarter defensive stand caused another Wildcat fumble, which was recovered by Austin Bickle. This turnover led to a 20 yard TD pass reception to Tanner Lackey from Ethan White. Goertzen's kick made the score 42-0. The final score came late in the third when Garrett Boeger carried the ball in from the 29 yard line and again, Goertzen's kick was true, making the score 490. The fourth quarter saw a lot of action for many players. There was no further scoring as the game see-sawed back and forth, including a very fine defensive goal-line stand by the Freshman second defense. The Freshmen will play next Monday at Andale, at 5:00. The JV game will follow. Yes, we have already played them once earlier in the year, but we look forward to playing them again and then McPherson the following week to end the Freshman season. These are two programs that we respect and also love to beat. See you next Monday at Andale. - Coach Zeyen Live Radio Events http://www.adastraradio.com/sports.php In the News and the Web http://www.hutchnews.com/sports/justpreps/prep_schools/buhler/ https://www.facebook.com/justpreps ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable Senior Spotlight Zac Styles (AKA Zae Stiller) Zac has been playing a lot of different sports since he was in grade school. He played football, basketball and baseball from 3rd to 7th grade. In 8th grade he switched from basketball to wrestling (where he won his weight class in league in his first and only year). He now powerlifts during the winter months. As a Sophomore he won the squat (his specialty) in his weight class and finished 5th overall. His junior year he took 4th overall in the squat (405 lb) and his goal is to win state this, his senior year. Zac has also excelled in baseball during his high school career. His Uncle played catcher in college which sparked Zac’s interest in the position. He was honorable mention all-league his sophomore and junior years for the Crusaders and has a goal of 1st team his senior year. In the summer between his sophomore and junior years, he broke his femur in a home plate collision. He spent months on crutches and in rehab. He got back in time to start at varsity catcher his junior year. Zac has played football every year from 3rd grade through his sophomore year. One of his favorite football memories was in youth football. He had promised to throw Alex Potter a pass and during a blowout game audibled to a pass. Coach Konrade was not excited about the interception that followed!! His leg injury kept him from playing his junior year. He played quarterback every year until his sophomore year when he platooned at wide receiver on the varsity squad. This explains why he’s very comfortable behind center as the backup quarterback this year. He is back for his senior year and is starting at receiver (with some superback thrown in). Zac spent his early years as a defensive back but has moved to linebacker and is known as one of the hardest hitters on the team this year. Zac has a step brother and sister and Buhler fans will remember his older brother Jordan (now a firefighter in Salina). His hobbies are fishing and hanging out with friends. Next year Zac is looking into taking classes and student coaching at Butler CC. Missing his junior year set him back on the recruitment trail in football. He has had letters to consider scholarships in baseball and football however. He has received letters from a number of schools addressed to both Zac Styles and another addressed to ‘Zae Stiller’ – hence the nickname. When they want to get his attention, his teammates will yell his ‘rap name’ at him. Zac’s best memories at Buhler are of the ‘family environment’ created by Coach Warner and his other Senior Spotlight of the Week coaches. As I’ve had an opportunity to talk to seniorsSponsor over the past two years this is always mentioned. The investment these coaches make in their players off the field is unique and very apparent. Zac has worked hard to defend the state championship with his football family. Our defense played very well…… forcing 3 interceptions and a fumble. Offensively we had a good night as well. We rushed for 269 yards and our Offensive line captured the MVP award by maintaining blocks and getting a good push off the line of scrimmage throughout the night. We travel to Augusta next week to face the Orioles at Hillier stadium. Our JV faced Hutchinson this Monday in a tough game at home. This was a defensive battle and came down to the last quarter. Our defense did a good job of stopping their running game throughout the first 3 quarters but with good field position aided by 3 penalties, their offense finally punched it in. The final score was 0-8. -Coach Jory Konrade ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable PHMS 7th Grade Schedules 7th Grade A Team Date Thursday, Sept 4 Thursday, Sept 11 Thursday, Sept 18 Thursday, Sept 25 Thursday, Oct 2 Thursday, Oct 9 Thursday, Oct 16 7th Grade B Team Date Thursday, Sept 4 Monday, Sept 15 Thursday, Sept 18 Thursday, Sept 25 Monday, Oct 6 Monday, Oct 13 Time 5:00PM 5:00PM 5:00PM 5:00PM 5:00PM 5:00PM 5:00PM Time 6:30PM 4:00PM 6:30PM 6:30PM 5:00PM 5:00PM Opponent Valley Center Goddard-Eisen. On Thursday, October 9th the 7th grade A team traveled to Augusta and came away with a 32-0 win. This was a great win for this 7th grade team ans they have battled a tough month. I was proud of these kids for sticking with it and getting a much needed win. The scoring started with Ian Stubbs taking a hand-off from Cade Miller on a nice option play and scoring on a 24 yard run. The PAT was no good and the Crusaders had a 6-0 lead. The defense held for a 3 and out and forced a very short punt. Austin Gentry scored the second touchdown on a 6 yard run. The PAT was no good and the Crusader lead was 12-0. Ian Stubbs scored the third touchdown with and touchdown run where he broke about 6 tackles. Austin Gentry took the PAT run in to make the score 20-0 at halftime. The Crusaders scored 2 more touchdowns in the second half. One by Austin Gentry on a 15 yard run and one by Cade Miller on a 1 yard run. The PAT'S were missed on both touchdowns to make the final score 32-0. It was a great team effort. The defense played well in pitching the shut out. The Crusaders had over 300 yards of offense with 293 yards coming on the ground. -Coach Jon McLean ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable Varsity Stat’s, Stat’s and Stat’s 2014 DEFENSIVE STATISTICS SEASON TO DATE - THROUGH GAME 6 BUHLER HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER WEDEL, JORDAN STILES, ZAC WOLF, DAKOTA SHANTZ, CHASE DUKART, DAVEY MILLER, KOLTON ABERNATHY, JADEN WILLIAMS, JACE RIDDER, CONNOR ENGELLAND, DYLAN HAWKINSON, TRISTAN LINDBLOOM, LOGAN PETERSON, CLAYTON POTTER, JOSH POTTER, ALEX WHITE, ETHAN WIEHL, HUNTER HOSKINSON, JOE GOERTZEN, JACK LACKEY, TANNER BICKEL, AUSTIN FULMER, ETHAN RIESER, CHRIS WEAST, JACOB RICKER, ETHAN GOERTZEN, HANK DOWELL, TYLER ROBERTS, DALTON DICK, NATE WHITSON, TYLER TOTALS SOLO ASSIST TACKLE TACKLE TACKLE FOR LOSS 25 18 12 14 11 11 12 14 14 10 5 16 6 5 6 5 3 1 10 2 1 3 2 1 1 1 5 213 30 18 12 16 18 10 17 8 13 1 6 22 6 3 3 9 3 1 6 2 3 4 2 1 1 3 218 6 3 4 15 2 3 3 1 SACK TOTAL SOLO TOTAL TACKLES TACKLES 2 2 1 4 1 2 2 1 1 1 1 1 42 2 16 33 23 17 33 14 16 17 15 14 11 6 17 6 6 6 5 3 4 10 2 0 1 0 0 3 2 1 1 1 5 271 63 41 29 49 32 26 34 23 27 12 12 39 12 9 9 14 6 5 16 4 3 5 2 1 4 2 1 1 1 8 489 FUM REC FORCED FUMBLE 1 1 2 INT 1 QB HURRY 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 1 2 5 3 3 3 1 2 1 1 1 PBU PUNT BLOCK 1 2 1 4 4 1 3 1 1 1 1 1 6 8 1 8 18 17 1 2014 Offensive Team Leaders SEASON TO DATE Date Opponent 9/5/2014 Andale 9/12/2014 Mulvane 9/19/2014 Winfield 9/26/2014 Augusta 10/3/2014 Rose Hill 10/10/2014 El Dorado 10/17/2014 Hays 10/24/2014 McPherson 10/31/2014 Abilene Result Rushing Leader Receiving Leader Passing Leader L 20 - 41 W 34 - 6 W 50 - 15 W 55 - 27 W 48 - 3 W 60 - 7 #7 Jace Williams, 209 #25 Dillon Engelland, 103 #7 Jace Williams, 143 #7 Jace Williams, 230 #25 Dillon Engelland, 244 #25 Dillon Engelland, 198 #3 Dakota Wolf, 65 #30 Conner Ridder, 101 #36 Tristan Hawkinson, 82 #3 Dakota Wolf, 128 #3 Dakota Wolf, 40 #3 Dakota Wolf, 216 #7 Jace Williams, 159 #7 Jace Williams, 217 #7 Jace Williams, 291 #7 Jace Williams, 160 #7 Jace Williams, 103 #7 Jace Williams, 239 ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable Varsity Season to Date Stat’s Buhler 5- 1 267 44.5 Opponent Record Scoring 99 Points Per Game 16.5 Downs First Downs 136 74 First Downs - Rushing 92 41 First Downs - Passing 40 26 First Downs - Penalties 4 7 Third Down Conversions/Attempts 36/60 (60.0%) 27/76 (35.5%) Fourth Down Conversions/Attempts 6/15 (40.0%) 6/14 (42.9%) Turnovers 7 13 Rushing 2073 740 Attempts 259 215 Average Per Rush 8 3.4 Average Per Game 345.5 123.3 Rushing TDs 29 6 Passing 1169 611 Completions- Attempts 66 - 107 55 - 100 Avg Per Attempt 10.9 6.1 Avg Per Completion 17.7 11.1 Avg Per Game 194.8 101.8 Passing TDs 10 6 Interceptions 2 7 Fumbles - Lost 5-May 6-Nov Total Offense 3242 1351 Total Plays 366 311 Average per Play 8.9 4.3 Average Per Game 540.3 225.2 Big Plays (>20 yds) 37 25 Time of Possession 2:28:34 2:19:26 Penalties - Yards 22 - 169 20 - 185 Kickoff Returns 18 35 Yards 232 567 Average Per Attempt 12.9 16.2 Kickoff Return TDs 0 0 Kickoffs 45 21 Yards 2063 960 Average 45.8 45.7 Touchbacks 10 2 Punt Returns 12 5 Yards 47 119 Fair Catches 0 0 Average Per Attempt 3.9 23.8 Punt Return TDs 0 1 Punts 6 27 Yards 248 1055 Punting Touchbacks 0 4 Average Yards Per Punt 41.3 39.1 Punts Blocked 0 1 Field Goals Made - Attempted 0-1 2-Jan PAT Made - Attempted 31 - 38 6-8 Two Point Conversions Made - Attempted 1-1 3-6 ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable Game Center Stat’s ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable 2014 Platinum Sponsor www.mhford.com 2014 Gold Sponsors www.hubcoinc.com www.mannlawoffices.com www.grenevisiongroup.com/doctor/Tim_Ridder.html Dr. Tim Ridder www.lairdnollerhutch.com www.fnta.net www.AdAstraRadio.com ©2013 Buhler Football Roundtable 2014 Silver Sponsor www.fnbhutch.com www.southwindeyecare.com www.hometownfoodstores.com www.prairiebankks.com www.summitks.com Dr. Erik L.
