We advanced to the Sub-State championship for the 3rd time in 5 years by beating
Andover Central 38-14! I felt that our kids played extremely hard. I am very proud of
their effort and how the boys are representing Buhler High School.
On offense Dillon Engelland had another great game. He rushed for 184 yards on 21
carries and had 3 TD’s. Jace Williams had 147 yards rushing on 21 carries and 1 TD. Jace
was 5-15 passing with 86 yards and 1 TD. Dakota Wolf had 1 reception for 51 yards and 1
TD. Dakota has set the single season receiving record with 946 yards. JP Lohrentz had the
old record with 934 yards. Chase Shantz continues to have a great senior year. He had 1 great catch for 10
yards and he is blocking very well from his tight end position. Our offensive line continues to get better every
game. Dustin Rush was our Mooseman and Davey Dukart was Runner-Up.
Our defense had one of its best games of the year. We held Andover Central to 249 yards of total offense. We
held their running back to 85 yards. He only had 7 yards on 8 carries in the second half. Jordan Wedel and
Jaden Abernathy had 12 tackles and led the team. Jordan had 1 interception. Chase Shantz had 4 tackles for
loss, 9 total tackles and 2 PBU’s (pass break ups). Davey Dukart continues to improve on defense he had 7
tackles and 4 QB hurries.

Commentary from Coach Warner on Upcoming Opponent
November 21 AWAY Topeka Hayden (10 - 1), 7:00PM
This Friday we travel to Topeka to play the 10-1 Hayden Wildcats. Hayden has a good QB and several good
running backs. On defense they run a 4-2-5 and their 2 middle linebackers are the strength of the defense. We
will need good combo blocks and will have to get to the linebackers.
We have played Hayden 5 times in the last 8 years. The path to the State Championship always seems to go
through Hayden. One nice thing is the path to the State Championship game for Hayden goes through
BUHLER!!!!!!!! I know our kids will play very hard and give us everything they have. I am very proud of the
team and family we have become!!!!

Senior Spotlight
Chris Reusser:
Chris has been playing football since the seventh grade. He has been a special
teams specialist as well as playing receiver and defensive back. When I ask what
he’ll remember about his football career he recalls a kickoff return that he took to
the house – his first touchdown. Unfortunately when he got to the sidelines, coach
broke the news that a flag nullified the play – OUCH! Chris played youth baseball
and basketball as well. His first love is track. He’s ran track through middle
school and high school. Last year he ran the 100, 200, relays and went to the
regional track meet in the long jump. Chris would love to continue running track
next year.
Band is a big part of Chris’s high school years. He has played the alto saxophone
since the sixth grade. This year he competed with the band in Tulsa (The
Renegade Review) where they took eleventh place making the finals. They also
made a trip to Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Missouri where they
took seventh overall.
Chris does have a number of hobbies. He built model cars through junior high.
He likes to fish and takes a family fishing trip to Neosho Missouri every year bagging catfish. Chris plans to
attend HCC next year with plans to pursue studies in architecture or graphic design. He’s looking forward to
taking care of unfinished business first on Friday in Topeka as the quest for back to back State title nears an
end.

LEAGUE CHAMPS!!- What a way to end the season! We were able to come away undefeated in our division with a 36-20 win
against Goddard last Thursday. It all started with a huge stop by our defense on their 1st possession. Then on our first
offensive play of the night Colton Goans handed off to Jordan Hawkins on a jet sweep. Jordan turned on the afterburners
and, after a nice block by Cale McCabe, scampered 65 yards down the sideline for a score. On the next drive, Cole Janzen
scored on a 70 yd. trap play up the middle and we tacked on a nice extra point with a QB scramble and hook up with tight
end Tharin Cook. One of the highlights on defense came when the Goddard QB came down the line on an option play and
was forced to pitch. Unfortunately for him there was no pitch man and the ball ended up on the turf, at which time Garrison
Foulk scooped it up and took it 50 yds. for the score. It was a fun year seeing these young men come together and fight for
the league championship and ultimately achieve their goal. I look forward to following them on up through their high school
football careers and hopefully more championships at the STATE level!

Coaches Commentary
On Monday, October 13th the 7th grade B Team beat Goddard 34-0. This was a great performance by the B team to finish off their
football season. No stats were taken for this game.
The 7th grade football team finished up their season on Thursday, October 16th with a thrilling 22-20 victory over Goddard. This was
just a great 7th grade game. So many good plays were made by so many players to preserve the win. Austin Gentry got the scoring started
for the Crusaders with a 38 yard run and he also ran the PAT in to give the Crusaders a 8-0 lead. Goddard came back and scored on a long
run as well, but the Crusaders stopped them on the PAT to hold a 8-6 lead. Goddard took the lead with a touchdown run and made the
PAT to take a 14-8 lead. The Crusaders came back and scored on an Austin Gentry 6 yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good so the
score was tied 14-14. Goddard scored just before the half to make the score 20-14 at halftime. Luke Winters had a huge tackle on the PAT
to keep Goddard out of the endzone. The Crusaders made a halftime adjustment to switch to a 6-2 defense. The kids did a great job in
stopping the run. Early in the 3rd quarter Ian Stubbs took the hand-off on a trap play and raced 35 yards for a touchdown to make it 20-20.
The offensive line blocked the play perfectly. The oh so important extra point play was converted on a pass play from Cade Miller to
Briggam McCurdy. Briggam made a nice catch and move to get into the endzone for the go ahead to point conversion. The Crusaders lead
22-20. The 4th quarter was exciting and intense. Big stops were made by several Crusaders. Kahalawai McDowell had a huge interception
to stop a Goddard drive. Late in the 4th quarter Buhler had a chance to ice the game, but turned the ball over. Godard took the ball down
to the 20 yard line and Thomas Cox made a touchdown saving tackle. The Crusaders forced Goddard into a 2nd & long and Thomas Cox
stepped in front of a pass down the middle and intercepted the ball, a huge play to give the ball back to the Crusaders with a little over a
minute left in the game. Goddard used their last time out and the Crusaders were able to take a knee the last 3 snaps of the game to get
an awesome 22-20 win.
I'm so proud of these kids for sticking with it and getting much better the last 3 weeks of the season. It was an awesome way to end the
season!! A great team effort!! The excitement after the game was incredible!!
