The Current First Baptist Church 200 Hwy 17 South North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 www.fbcnmb.com October 2014 A Note from John and Kathleen After twelve years of ministry and service to this church, we are retiring as Pastor and Music Director. We carry with us many memories of the time spent with you. We wish each of you God’s best as we all seek to do our Father’s will. Keep serving, singing and loving for Him. To God be all the glory! World Hunger We at First Baptist Church need to give much thought and prayers to this dire need in giving to the World Hunger Fund October 12. Please do not forget to bring non-perishable food items to the church any time between now and Sunday, October 12 to be given to North Strand Helping Hand. The food items may be placed on the altar or in the gray boxes in the front foyer and also at both side doors. Every dollar donated to the World Hunger Fund is used 100% to feed the hungry in SC, the USA and the world. World Hunger envelopes will be available and someone will be at each door with containers for you to place your offering in for this worthy cause. PLEASE GIVE!! FBC Staff Welcomes Christina! I moved to the Myrtle Beach area in 1997 from Virginia. I am married to Chris Bellamy. We have three children Isaac, Samuel and Olivia. My husband is a life long member of the church and I have enjoyed attending here for many years. I love reading, hiking and gardening. I am looking forward to working with my church family. EDITOR’S NOTE: Christina will work as secretary on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Paula will work Monday and Tuesday. Please stop by the office and welcome Christina! Thanks to Darlene Thank you, Darlene, for everything! We want to express our great appreciation to Darlene Dunlow for her ministry to the church the past eight years. Darlene has tremendous administrative skills and we were blessed to have her as part of our team. As our church “secretary”, she went above and beyond her job in assisting others and making our church run smoothly. She had the gift of anticipating what would be needed and covering all the bases. She was willing to help us in any way she could, spending extra hours and even some Saturdays just to make sure things were done well. We will miss you, Darlene, and wish you the very best in your much earned retirement! The “Shoe Box Packing Party” is Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Remember to mark your box for boy or girl and include a donation of $7.00 for shipping. We’d love to have money for items to pack in the boxes and we are in need of sponsors to cover shipping. Anyone who does not feel they could pack a box could sponsor one or more boxes at $7.00 a box. Checks should be made payable to FBCNMB for Operation Christmas Child or give money to Beady Moore marked to pack or ship. Make this a family project. The dedication service is Sunday, November 16. Sometimes only one family receives one box. Christian literature will be placed in the box in the proper language at the inspection/packing centers. Send His love in a shoe box! Each month, we meet to review the current missions within the Southern Baptist organization for opportunities to help. Our meetings take place at various local restaurants, usually the first Tuesday of each month during lunchtime (around 11:30am). The group currently consists of all women, but men are certainly welcome to join. We try to participate in one community project each month and support other charges that are worldwide. Sometimes we provide razors for men, toiletry bags, serve meals, or haircuts. Street Reach, a homeless ministry in Myrtle Beach, may call with needs such as blankets for the night. We get them together and deliver the blankets on a moment’s notice. During November, we host a shoe box packing party for the Samaritans Purse…Operation Christmas Child. If you would like to attend or help, check the church schedule for specific times and dates of our monthly “Lunch Bunch” meeting. Sound System Thanks to each of you who were able to make a donation to the sound system fund. With your help, along with help from profits from the concessions sold in the Family Life Center and help from the Yard Sale funds, we were able to follow through with the immediate needs on equipment replacement. The two TV monitors have been replaced. A new Digital mixer (sound board) has been ordered along with the necessary processors, amps, boxes, supplies and training necessary for installation. We are excited about the new equipment and look forward to getting it installed. We are in need of workers in both sound and video. This is the perfect time to get in on training on the new board! If you would be able to work in sound or video (if only one Sunday per month) we need you! Letters of Thanks! From: Darlene Dunlow Retirement wasn’t an easy decision for me. I have been praying about it for a while, and finally realize after 44 years of employment, it is time! My knee surgery wasn’t as successful as I had hoped for, which meant we had to give up our two story townhouse and move back to a single family home. Unfortunately, the one we liked the most was off the south end of Forestbrook Road making the drive to North Myrtle Beach even further. Although I will be spending more time with my husband, JL, visiting our son, Michael, and catching up on some traveling, I am going to miss my church family and the interactions with everyone. I knew God had a plan for me when he brought me to First Baptist Church and I appreciate all the well wishes and am so thankful for the love and friendship of everyone here. God bless you! - Darlene Dunlow From: Amanda Earnhardt “The Jewelry Ladies” would like to express our appreciation for all the donations of jewelry for our church yard sale! With your generosity, the jewelry booth had our most successful year ever. In Christian Love—Amanda Earnhardt P.S. We’ve already started collecting jewelry for next year! From: Agnes Roller A big thank you to my church family for the concerns, calls, cards, and especially the prayers after my knee surgery. Prayers were answered. I am doing fine and go back to the doctor in one year.—Agnes Roller From: Jane Rose I was so surprised and moved by your loving and caring gift that arrived today. Please extend my heartfelt gratitude to those ladies who created such a beautiful lap quilt with such loving hands and caring for someone they do not even know. Thank you also for all of your prayers. I am so blessed to have all of you lifting me and my family up in prayer and cannot tell you how much that means to me. God bless all of the comfort quilters. Much love and gratitude.—Jane Rose From: Ocean Drive Elementary School Dear Friends at First Baptist Church NMB: Thank you for donating supplies to our school. They will be very useful for our students. Thank you for your support.—Ocean Drive Elementary From: Mrs. Felicia Bellamy (Guidance Counselor) Thank you for the school supplies! It really means a lot to us here at Riverside Elementary. Thanks for al you do!!!! - Mrs. Felicia Bellamy Flower Ministry If anyone is interested in participating in the flower ministry by taking the Sunday flowers to the shut-ins, please contact the church office.
